Haddon Spurgeon Wilson

1919 - 2020

Haddon Spurgeon Wilson, of Farmington, NM, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, five days shy of his 101st birthday. Born in Toronto, Canada on December 20, 1919, Wilson served in the Canadian Navy during World War II and was a graduate of Queens University in Kingston, Ontario.

He and his wife, Kathleen Wilson, moved to the United States in 1953.

After a successful career as an electrical engineer in New Jersey, he and his family moved to Durango in 1971. They purchased and ran the Silver Spur Motel and Restaurant until 1977. In 1979, they moved to Farmington, NM where they owned the Basin Lodge Motel, Auburn Mobile Home Park, and the Power Wash Car Wash on 20th Street. Wilson was active in Farmington civic affairs and the Chamber of Commerce for many years and was a lifetime member of the Farmington Elks Lodge #1747. He was also a past president of the New Mexico Hotel Motel Association.

Wilson was preceded in death by his wife in 2012. He is survived by four children, Steve Wilson, Aztec, NM, Carol McLaughlin, Durango, CO, Deborah Wiepz, Edgerton, WI, and Robert Wilson, Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
