So young but so full of love for the world and excitement to see America. You became a true American Hero on that terrible day and we will never forget you and what you did for us. I'm so sorry you were taken so violently so far from your loved ones. We will never forget 9/11/2001

Visited the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, PA today on Mother's Day. I knew in the back of my mind that there was a Japanese national who became an American hero that day, but it didn't really register until I saw his name. From what I was able to gather online, he loved American culture, studied English, and prepared to apply to colleges here.

I heard his mother visits every 9/11. I cannot imagine the pain a mother goes through to lose her son, let alone one who was lost in such tragic circumstances. But as I write this, as others who have written before me, and others who will surely write after me, it is clear that we will never forget who the heroes were, and the ultimate sacrifice they made.

I hope you, your mom, your family, and the world find peace.

I truly relate to Toshiya, his vacation trip to America consisted of exploring new places and trying some thrilling things. If I had the opportunity to visit a different country I would try to plan the same type of activities. He will never be forgotten.

In the last few days since the 15th anniversary of this horrible tragedy, I haven't been able to get it out of my head. I keep thinking about everybody that perished that terrible day, but I keep thinking about you in particular Toshiya. Its horrible for me to imagine how scared you must've been, being so far away from your family. It breaks my heart, and I hope that you, your family, and everyone that died that horrific day, find peace. You and all of those heroes from that day will never be forgotten. RIP Toshiya.

Kuge son, please accept my condolences on the 15th anniversary of your son's death. I purchased a flag with his name and I am honored to be able to pray for your family. In a field of 1000's of flags I searched for Toshiya. I have been to Shanksville gravesite twice and feel a connection. I would love to know more about your young son and his family.

Dearest Toshiya,
each September I greet your Mom in Shanksville. She is a beautiful, brave lady. Although, she always appears happy to be there, I am sure that the very long flight from Japan muss take a lot out of her. Sometimes your brother accompanies her. They are friendly and courteous, grieving with us as we grieve with them, but never imposing on our sorrow.I pray for your soul.
My son had been one of the pilots on your flight. We will always be heartbroken.
Rest in peace, dear Toshiya,
With best regards,

I think of you not only on Sept.11th but on all the other days of the year.
I don't fully understand why but my heart aches just a little more for you Toshiya. Maybe it's because you were traveling here in the US all by yourself or maybe because you didn't speak full English. That surely added to the terror for you with not enough time for anyone to communicate to you the full scope of what was happening. Then I think that perhaps speaking the same language wasn't exactly necessary. Maybe you understood what needed to be done and what would probably be the result as you and other passengers literally fought to your own deaths to save the lives of others.
I will always think of you.

I saw a picture of Toshiya's mother at the 9/11 Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, today and then read his story and a tribute to him elsewhere. I simply want to tell his parents how sad I am for the loss of their son. The events of that day 11 years ago were a human tragedy, not limited to any one people or nation. My thoughts and prayers are with the Kuge Family and with the families of all who died.

Dear Kuge-san and his family,
i am a japanese immigrant from okayama and living in ny since 1999. i was horrified in the morning of 9/11, but devastated to know that you were on flight #93. my heart tears as i think that you had to go, so far away from your loving family. i'm sure you wanted to be in your home country at that time. the only thing that gives me a little comfort is that you were with all other heroes of the flight. you were not alone at that time, and you will never be alone from now on. you will be in my heart forever.

and to all the heroes of that day, i just wanted to tell you guys that i am a proud immigrant of america, and all of you guys will be my hero forever.

November 11, 2006

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Mr. Kuge:

Just wanted you to know that I'm thinking and remembering you on this day. It gives me and everybody else in this country a sense of pride that you loved things that were United States - sports, music, movies. But to see your face makes me sad and angry that you - and many like you - were taken from us in such a horrible fashion. I see a person who was good and had such potential to make the world better.

My own personal belief system is that there is an afterlife where we shall meet and only then you'll understand the sadness that people like me - who never knew you or the others - felt and will continue to feel. So with that, I'll see you when I get there, and continue to enjoy our sports, music, and movies from where you are.

Toshiya Kuge & Your Family,

It's well known that Toshiya loved american football. In fact, he was a fervent and loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. I hope the last Super Bowl brought a smile on your face up in heaven. From all the Steeler fans of the world, thank you and everyone on Flight 93. And may God Bless your family.

I don't know where to begin...

As with everyone here, 9/11 has had a tremendous effect on me. I watch as many specials on it, read lots of books of that day and listen to radio shows. I have wondered what it would be like to be there, experiencing such an event. What would I do? How would I react?

I have always been interested in Japan, their culture, people, and anime :) for quite a long time. I have a Japanese wife and we have a cute little baby girl.

I can't remember where or when I found out about Toshiya Kuge, but he has been on my mind since that time. Being that I like Japan and their culture, I kinda of wanted to find out more about Kuge-san since he was a foreigner caught up in a conflict that was supposed to against the US.

I have seen the 3 Flight 93 movies that have been made so far. The first two (which were TV movie specials) didn't show him much. There would be a quick shot of this "Japanese" kid in the background and that was it. "United 93" gave him a bit more camera time.

I have wondered... what did Kuge-san do during that event? Did he fight along side the rest of the heroes on that flight?

I am wondering where in Japan is Kuge-sans grave? Reason I am asking is that I might be in Japan in the next year or so. I would like to visit his grave and pay my respects to him. I would really like to go to Shanksville to visit the site, but a Japan trip is more visible in my future. If someone can send me a location, I would be so grateful.

To the family of Toshiya Kuge,

A week ago their was a TV program that depicted the brave passengers on Flight 93. I saw your son and I thought how hard it must be for your family. My sister is living in Tokyo with her Japanese husband and I know how upset I would be if she died so far away from me. All of America continues to grieve and think about the victims. Our small town has a church that is sponsoring a memorial to all the 9-11-01 victims. It is beautiful, with a field of white crosses, each cross bearing a victim's name. Altho my family had no personal connection to any of the victims, I have chosen a few victims to pray for and grieve over. I have printed a photo of Toshiya and it hangs on his cross in our memorial field. I chose Toshiya because he is not an American. I think that we all need to remember that this horrible day was not just an attack on the United States, but rather on all the peoples of the World. My heart goes out to Toshiya's family. To the Kuge family,

My thoughts are always with you. I have thought and prayed about your son and your family a lot over the last 11 months.I lost my very dear grandpa in 1996 and someone sent a poem to me as I was grieving. I hope it can bring some sense of comfort to you, as it comforted me greatly during my loss.

When someone dies,

A cloud turns into an angel,

And flies up to tell God to put

another flower on a pillow.

A bird gives the message back to

the world,

And sings a silent prayer that

makes rain cry.

People disapper, but they never

really go away.

The spirits up there put the sun

to bed, wake up grass,

And spin the earth in dizzy circles.

Sometimes you can see them dancing

in a cloud during the daytime,

When they're supposed to be sleeping

They paint the rainbows and also

the sunsets and make

Waves splash and tug at the tide

They toss shooting stars and listen

to wishes

And when they sing windsongs,

They whisper to us:

Don't miss me too much.

The view is nice and I am doing just

fine.

Until now I wasn't aware that another nation had suffered a loss on this particular flight. But the

twisted minds that brought about this tragedy didn't know that they would unite the world, even if for a brief time. To all the people who have sent their condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family of Toshiya Kuge, this is a message from the Kuge family. I was one of Toshiya's teachers, and have been asked by his family to write to all of you in English for them. The Kuge family is very grateful for all your sincere messages of sympathy. Your messages have given the family emotional support throughout these most painful months. They want to tell you that they have read all of your messages in English and in the Japanese translation. They said that it would be difficult for them to write to you in English, so they have asked me to write their message for them. They would like you to know that they appreciate your heartfelt messages so very much, and they would like to ask you to "Please remember Toshiya forever."

My sincere condolences to Toshiya's family and friends!

I personally did not know Toshiya yet, I know he is missed by many. I first heard that Toshiya had been on Flight #93 via Jeff, a teacher friend of mine here in Tokyo. Another of our friends, Eleanor, had been a teacher of Toshiya's at Waseda University, where he had been studying as a second year student. Toshiya was on a solo trip to North America during his summer vacation, a courageous young man that had a desire to continue learning. He will continued to be remembered by those that loved him and knew him personally and others who had not met him yet, nonetheless whom he has touched. My heart and sympathy goes out to you.

Dear Kuge Family, I have been stationed in Yokosuka, Japan for many years now. I have 3 children who are American/Japanese whom I love very much. I cannot begin to even think of how lost I would be without them. My heartfelt prayers go out to you and the memory of Toshiya. I thank him and his fellow passengers for their bravery that saved many other people. Rest easy for Toshiya is up in heaven amongst Heroes from all of history. May God Bless them all. Steve

I recieved a Mercy Band with Toshiya name on it. It is a daily reminder to pray for the Kuge family. May the Lord Jesus Christ the Great Comforter give you Peace Joy and Comfort in this time of grief. And I pray daily that each of the family members will come to know Jesus. May God Bless.

I found you the only Japanese in

the high-jacked victims' list and as a father my deepest compassion and condolence go to your bereaved family.

Your precious sacrifice will never be obliterated in the all-out campaigns against evil-doers.

I pray, may your soul rest in peace with the Ultimate Comforter.

We met Toshiya ten days before the crash, when we were on a rafting trip together in the Canadian Rockies. We had a lovely day talking with him about his life. He was a kind and gentle person. When we saw a Dateline special about Flight 93 we were horrified to recognize his picture among the victims. We have sent his family our condolences. But not many Americans are talking about the non-U.S. people who were killed. Toshiya's death was tragic and no less grievous than any others.

We are honored to have met him.
