Never Forgotten!

Ellen Sherry

To Mark's family. Mark and I grew up in the same building 1745 East 18th St. My friend Myrna and I were a few years older and sometimes his mom Dotty would ask us to watch him. He was quite rambunctious and smart. I believe he was an only child. There was a special on TV tonite regarding flight 93, and when he was named as "Mickey" I was a bit unsure if that was him, as I only knew him as Mark.
My condolences to the family, albeit years later, but I made the connection for sure when I saw the re-enactment.

Wishing peace to all the people who love the brave man Mark was. Remembering him today and many other days.

In the 80s, I clerked at the "Beverly Rodeo Hotel" and Mark was one of our regular guest(s). He had a great sense of humor and was so supportive of my early acting career, he even went to one of my improv. comedy show. He was such a good sport, he got on stage and participated. I remember his deep voice and smile. My thoughts and prayers, forever, to his family.

I firmly believe, business makes friends and friends make business. This was never more true than the first time I met Mickey. I feel we shared a friendship like so many others who he may have met in his travels. I speak of him often and wear a bracelet bearing his name each September. May his family continue to find comfort in knowing he is so fondly remembered by so many across this great country.

My sister suggested I 'google' my name on the net as our surname (in the UK at least) is very uncommon. However, what initially was meant as an exercise in fun has developed into something with far greater gravitas and poignancy. To Mark's family and friends I offer my sympathies and can only imagine how much they miss him.

I just found this page. I grew up with Mark. We lived in the same apartment house,on the same floor and our families were very close. We were always in each others' houses. He was so much fun. Dotty, Irv and Mark were at my wedding in 1966. Then our families lost contact. A moment I remember most was teaching Mark to dance the lindy. My sympathies to the family and friends.

Mickey, or Brooklyn as we all called him in college, was friend for many years. He was my bridge partner through our college years and beyond. We did quite well winning Master Points at tournaments. I can't help but laugh a little when I think of an incident at one tournament. You're not supposed to show any emotion or non-verbal communication in these very serious events. Well, I made what looked a very stupid play to Brooklyn, and he started fuming and squirming in his seat. Fortunately, the couple we were playing against were the area's best and they knew us. The opponent smiled at Mickey and told him to relax because I had found the only way to defeat their contract. Mickey smiled at me and said, "Nice job, partner," with a guilty look on his face.

He had a great sense of humor and I can remember him chasing Mike Bell around the card table when Mike dropped the queen of spades on him in a friendly hearts game in the dorms.

Brooklyn was an usher at my wedding and we stayed in contact for a few years, then just spoke sporadically. I will always think of him with a devilish smile on his face.

I think of him often and just decided to do a search for him and found this page. I can only imagine the pain that Meredith and his family have endured. Time does help some. Keep him alive in your memories and he will always be with you.

Mickey and I worked together for 19 years but we knew each other since we were children. Our fathers' were business associates before I was born. We also lived in the same neighborhood. Mickey always said I was the "the little sister he never had". He, Meredith and his parents, Irving and Dottie attended my wedding and my husband and I were present at his daughter's Bat Mitzvah. When my daughter was born, he visited.

Our connections were very strong even though we lost touch in the last few years.

I will always remember MICKEY.

My heart goes out to the Rothenberg family. It is inconceivable that a tragedy such as this can personally touch people all over the country. I was a rep for Culver Glassware about six years ago and had numerous interactions with Mickey at trade shows and on sales calls. Though we weren't really "friends", I felt close to him. He had a quick wit, a "realness" about him, and emitted a warmth that I can still remember as though it were yesterday. News of his passing has touched me...he and his fellow passengers of the fated fight will always be remembered as true heroes.

I am a friend of cousins Marcia and Jeff. When I was told about Mark being on Flight 93, I got a bracelet with Mark's name on it. I know wear it proudly with 2 others for firemen that worked out of my neighborhood firehouse.

I wish the family peace within their hearts and hope knowing that others care helps their pain in some way.

We are deeply sorry for our nation's loss of Mark. May his life and love live on in those who love him. Thank you for sharing the picture of Mark with us. His eyes are warm and his smile content which must reflect his loving heart. I believe God tenderly reached out and pulled Mark into His warm embrace. Cradled in His arms earthly cries became heavenly songs as angels were born. Our hearts cry with you in America's loss of a hero.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

TO Mr. Rothenbergs family and friends, I am sorry for your loss, I know their is a void left when you lose someone you love, and just wanted you to know people are thinking about you. They died heroes on that flight and bonded like a family in the end, strangers first, then a family, I lost a cousin on that same flight, so in a strange way we are all connected to this horrific event in history, we will be a stronger nation for this, remember your love one with a smile...sincerely, debbie

A friends daughter had a birthday [her 14th] on Sept. 11; naturally she feels bad about how this day will be remembered. But while a tragic day it was a noble one also, for all of the hero's, from the fire fighters and police to the many victims like Mark.
