Alicia Titus Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2001.
Everyone Was a Favorite

Greg Ernst remembers Sunday, Sept. 9, when he and his girlfriend, Alicia Titus, had been together for nine months. "It was the first time we told each other we loved each other," he said. Soon after they had started dating, she had told him she demanded happiness. Not from him, but from herself.

Her father, John Titus, said his daughter, 28, who lived in San Francisco, loved parachuting out of airplanes and backpacking alone in Spain and Morocco. He recalled the laughter-filled cross-country trip she took with her mother in a Volkswagen convertible piled full of stuff. Since January 2001, she had enjoyed being a flight attendant. She was on Flight 175 on Sept. 11.

"You could always count on her being in a happy, joyous mood," said her father, who is writing a book about her so other people can know how wonderful she was. And she had a way of making her numerous aunts, uncles and cousins think of themselves as her favorite, Mr. Titus said.

Mr. Ernst knew that her happiness ran deep. "She laughed in her sleep; that was something I really liked," he said, although they never figured out what she was laughing about. "I'd hear her laugh, and say, `Lish, are you sleeping?' and she was asleep."

Profile published in THE NEW YORK TIMES on April 28, 2002.

For Alicia Titus, her new job as a United Airlines flight attendant was a steppingstone to a bigger dream: going back to college to get her teaching credentials.

A native of Ohio, 27-year-old Titus was known by friends as a gregarious and adventurous. She earned a degree in international marketing at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where a professor remembered her for her easy smile and hard work.

She worked for several marketing firms in the San Francisco area before taking the job with United in January. Although her United crew was based in Boston, Titus had an apartment in San Francisco and considered the city her home. Friends told the San Francisco Chronicle that Titus had a passion for dancing, beaches and snowboarding.

A victim on Flight 175, she is survived by her parents, John and Bev Titus of St. Paris, Ohio.

Dear Alicia Nicole Titus and her family,
I do not have a relation to you guys but I was playing a video game where you have to guess where a certain place is and it came up with the 9/11 museum memorial and it landed right on her name. I'm here to send my condolences. I wasn't alive during this time but I am so sorry that this tragedy happened. I looked more into this and I was interested because we both live in the same place. She lived in San Francisco and so do I. I think it was a lucky coincidence that it landed right on her name. She's also so pretty like how omg. Anyways I'm sending my love to her, she was too young and I hope she is looking over all of you guys and that you still have her in your hearts. Keep celebrating her life, Rest In Love.

Alicia worked at the Sandbar for a short time. I remember her as a sweet, kind, gentle person. Her dream was to be a flight attendant. I wish I could of known her better. She left an impression on everyone she met. We were all shocked to find out she was a victim of 9-11. I am honored to remember her. RIP Alicia.

I knew Alicia through Delta Zeta at Miami. I remember her as always having a smile that lit up the room. I think of her often especially when I see her name at the 9/11 Memorial. When we visited several years ago, I took a picture. Her name brings tears and reminds me just how precious life is. Alicia truly was a bright, beautiful soul that we lost way too soon.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Titus- I was a pledge sister of your daughter Alicia in Delta Zeta at Miami. I was living in Los Angeles at the time and remember like it was yesterday. I think of her often and its hard to believe its been 18yrs. I finally visited the memorial in 2017 and spent time at her memorial space. I wept for her and your family. Gone way too soon. Im so terribly sorry for your loss. My apologies for it taking this long to say so. God bless your family.

I didnt know Alicia, but I think of her every year. We share a birthday and we had similar goals and experiences. I communicated with her dad a few times many years ago after I had read about her and realized how similar some of our path had been. I always do at least one thing to honor her on our birthday every year.
RIP, Alicia. I know you were going back to school to get your teaching credentials. I finally got mine and I work in a school that I think youd find interesting.
Much love to the Titus family.

I recently visited New York on vacation where I went on a guided tour to the 9/11 memorial. As part of the tour i visited St. Paul chapel.

When reading some of the cards and photos displayed on a table within the chapel, I read a simple but extremely moving tribute to Alicia from Rafael that had an accompanying photo taken on the morning of 9/11.

When I got to the the museum I felt compelled to search for Alicia's name. When Alicia's profile appeared I felt a huge sadness, so much so the sadness has stayed with me even upon my return to the UK. Such a beautiful young lady full of life

Now home I searched Alicia further, and read more information about her life. A life full, with a loving family and some wonderful friends.

I will always think of Alicia when I am ever reminded of the tragic events of that day.
I will never forget.

Safe in god's care
May peace find all who love you.

Remembered. May God bless your family with unyielding peace.

September 12, 2016

Thought of you several times yesterday as I tried to process the decade and a half it has been. Though it all surpasses all understanding, the struggle to deal with it never ceases. I take comfort knowing you are in a good and safe place far removed from the moment we can never come to grips with. Bless you and your spirit. May peace be yours and your family's as well.

September 9, 2016

I watched the 9/11 movie today and I get so overwhelmed every time I see it or think about it. I just can't imagine. I knew Alicia from Eli and Brandon...they were my best bud's in school. I remember Eli's going away party when he moved to Michigan I was so sad he had to move, and I remember the day of 9/11 like it was yesterday...Brandon and I got home from school that day and I remember him running in my front door crying and trying to grasp for air and telling me Alisha was on the 2nd plane. The pain runs so deep! I felt like family and we definitely lost a very special person. She had a beautiful smile and was always so happy all the time. I am deeply sorry for your loss and I want you to know your always in my thoughts and prayers! I miss you all, God bless!

Alicia, I did not know you, but we share the same name. I saw it for the first time tonight on the PBS Nova program featuring the new tower at Ground Zero. I often think of 9-11 and reflect on that day. I was still in the Air Guard and was called in that day in the confusion. I visited the north tower in 1983 and have vivid memories of the experience. I now have a more personal memory having seen your name. There are so few of us. Possibly there is a distant familial connection. Nothing I say can change what has taken place. But I now will think fondly of you each time I think of that terrible day. I shall include you in my prayers and know that you are with God and angels. Bless you!

Sweet Alicia~I keep you in my heart and have many memories of watching you grow up. A favoriate memory~you were 6 years old. Your mom and I were talking. Laughing~you kept running in and out of your bedroom~each time giving your mom a little new note that held the same message each time~"I love you mommy". And your smile~your beautiful smile and sweet~sensitive soul. I came home that night on 9~11~so shook up. I was in school and had to email my professor a paper by midnight. As I logged on I checked my email and saw several posts in a row from our National Denomination titled~Prayers for Alicia Titus. Seeing several...my heart dropped down deep. I keep my 'Alicia' candle in my china cubboard~I take it out to lite each year along with some white sage. About 6 months after 9~11 I was sitting and thinking about you. In my minds eye I saw you holding a baby on that plane. The crown of my head began to tingle. I began a slow smile in the knowing you were long before a angel before becoming one.~Deborah Winter

I went to school with Alicia and even tho we weren't close, we were still friends and I always thought she was a sweetheart. She was two years younger than me, but she was popular and hung out with "my crowd". I still cry everytime I see something about her on tv or on the internet, and watching her plane crash into the trade center is almost too unbearable for me to watch. My thoughts and prayers are with her parents. And please know I'm proud to have known Alicia and proud to be able to call her a friend, and I'm so very very sorry for your loss.
