Maclovio Lopez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2001.
Falsely Gruff Exterior
People sometimes wondered why Maclovio Lopez, known as Joe, always wore sunglasses when his picture was taken. The answer: they weren't sunglasses at all. Hiding his eyes were photogray lenses, the same way his demeanor covered his heart.

"He was kind of rough and gruff and I don't think you could really print anything that he would have said," said Rhonda Lopez, his wife of 22 years. "He always had a standing joke about how he got 11 Christmas cards," she said, "because there were 12 bad blah-blah-blahs in the world" who exchanged cards only with one another.

A 41-year-old construction worker who specialized in pipelines, he had been working in Boston and was on United Airlines Flight 175 on his way home to Norwalk, Calif., to visit his wife, his 21-year-old daughter, Dannette, and his 18-year-old son, Joseph. "He loved children," Ms. Lopez said, remembering how he ran behind his daughter when she was learning to ride a bicycle.

But he didn't trust people easily. "If you weren't a little kid you had to wait until he liked you," she said.

"People always saw hard, but really he was soft on the inside," she said. "I think that anybody who really knew him knows what they're going to miss. Anybody else, it wouldn't have mattered to him anyway."
Profile published in THE NEW YORK TIMES on December 30, 2001.

To Joe's Family - I don't know you and never met Joe, but I want you to know people care - I do! Yearly, i read bios all September long of random victims from 9/11.

I pray for you and your healing and your wounded hearts and your strength to go on. Joe really seems like he was a one-of-a-kind guy you'd just have to know. I'm so thankful you have all your memories to cherish. Its so sad to know that hatred exists and evil is present in this world, BUT - people like Joe make the world brighter while they're here, and I pray you all keep Joe inside you and continue to make the world a better brighter place. May God bless your family and God bless the USA!

To the family of Maclovio Lopez Jr
We are from Ireland and visited the 9/11 memorial in January this year. My youngest son George was saying his prayers last night and mentioned Maclovio's name . I asked who that was he was praying for and he said , that's the man I picked in new york at the memorial. So prayers are being said each night in our house for your beloved, best wishes , Michele Crossan

Sarge,
9 years ago today I recall being at work... I had mentioned how I was glad I didn't know anyone in New York. When the news hit that you had been on the plane I could only cry. After 9 years I still walk around like a zombie... I still wish my best friend was here to laugh with... to fight with... fishing, barbeques... You are greatly missed Sarge.

Dad, 8 years has come and gone but you are missed just the same. I stay away from these sites as much as possible but the truth is I love to read from others who miss you as much as I do. Sometimes I just get so angry when I think about all the time we have missed out on. I dream someday we will be able to have another one of our talks. Well to all those who share my broken heart Thank you for Never forgetting the Man behind the event!!!!!

Hello Joe,

Almost 6 years later, I stumbled upon a list of those who passed on Flight 175 on Sept 11th, 2001 and came across your name. It read "Maclovio "Joe" Lopez Jr., 41, Norwalk, Calif." and couldn't help but find out about what a wonderful person, husband and father you were. Being very close to my hometown I couldn't help but feel the need to sign this guest book. I just wanted to send my condolences to your family for their great loss. May God Bless and protect your family in their lives.

God Bless,

Two and a half years since 9/11/01, I still feel the anger, sorrowness, and grievence of that devastating day. All those innocent lives taken away in a matter of seconds was just too much for all to cope with, especially if you were a friend or a loved one of one of the many victims. I didn't know Joe myself but knowing that he was from the same city where I'm from make's it hurt even more. To Joe and the rest of those who lost their lives on 9/11/01, "WE WILL NEVER FORGET THAT DAY NOR WILL WE FORGET YOUR NAME!" GOD BLESS

I didn't know Joe (maclovio).

I don't know his family and friends.

But what I do know is, you all are blessed to have had Joe in your life. If Joe could send you a message it would read like this:

Don't Grieve for me, for now I'm free

I'm following the path GOD laid for me

I took HIS hand when I heard him call

I turned my back and left it all

Tasks left undone must stay that way

I've found that peace at the close of day

If my parting has left a void

Then fill it with remembered joy

If my life seemed all too brief

Don't lengthen it with undue grief

Lift up your hearts, rejoice with me

GOD wanted me, he set me free.

On September 11th 2002 we had a rememberance sevice at school. At mass(I go to a cathoilc school)we were asked to go up and take a name, and pray for the family of the victim. Maclovio Lopez is the name I got. In library we were allowed to go to this web site and look up our name. I cant immagine the pain you and your family are going through. I will keep you in my prayers always. God Bless!

Last Sunday after Mass our pastor asked that each family take a piece of paper from a basket with the name of someone who's life was lost on September 11th. He asked us to pray for that person every day for the next year. Joe Lopez Jr. was the name on the paper we took from the basket.

Our family is honored to pray for you Joe, as well as your family and loved ones. We have vowed to keep you and all those whose mourn your loss, in our thoughts and prayers, not only through the next year, but for always, until we are called from this earth.

Joe, may you rest enfolded in the peace of God's loving arms and may

God bless and comfort your family and loved ones.

We never knew you, but we will now never forget you.

May 25, 2002

During this past year at our Confirmation program at St Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Chino Hills, Ca, we dedicated our year to the victims of 9/11. We have about 700 teens in our program. Each teen was given a "soulmate" card with a very short bio of one of the victims on one side and the picture of the Holy Face of Jesus on the other side. Catechists and other youth ministers also received "soulmate" cards. We had asked the teens to say a prayer for their "soulmate" every day and to also lift up any mass, rosaries, etc. for their particular person to God. We gave the teens plenty of opportunity to be able to lift up anything they did for their particular person. As a youth minister at St Paul, I received a card that had Maclovio "Joe" Lopez's short bio. I also did all that we had asked the teens to do for Joe-rosaries, masses, etc. It wasn't until recently that I looked up Joe's legacy on this website. The more I found out about him, the more I felt for his family. I would very much love to send to his family the "soulmate" card I received since his family lives not 30 minutes away from where I live. I don't know how possible this would be, but my e-mail address is listed here. As a tribute to the victims and heroes of 9/11 we gathered all of the teens in church to do a memorial with the help of a police office and a fireman. That was how we ended our confirmation year. God bless Joe! And Glod bless his family and those he loved!

To my big brother (Maclovio) Joe. It's been a while since I wrote you, but you left never to return. In a way I was the last person you contacted I received your letter on 9-11-01 about 8am saying you were going home to L.A. from Boston and that you would stop in to see me on your way back. I was contacted about an hour later that you were dead. I sure miss you, brother Joe. The state of New York put 2 spot lights in place of the towers. I have interpreted the lights staring straight up to the heavens as all of your family and friends looking for you in heaven. Please keep an eye on all of them help guide them in times of need, be there when each and everyone has their turn to join you in many years from now. Brother Joe I miss you, we all miss you. We are deeply sorry for your great loss of Joe. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

MACLOVIO LOPEZ

I MISS YOU SO MY FRIEND

THE FUN BACK THEN WAS OURS

YOU WERE YOUNG I WAS OLDER

I ACTED RESERVED YOU WERE MUCH BOLDER

YOU WORKED SO HARD ALL YOUR LIFE

NO ONE COULD COMPETE WITH YOUR KIND OF DRIVE

YOUR PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES MADE YOU THE BEST

STANDING ALONE YOU EXCEEDED YOUR TEST

FOR FIFTEEN YEARS WE WERE BEST FRIENDS

ASKING FOR NOTHING CONFIDING IN ALL

ON SEPT.11 ABOVE THE TWIN TOWERS

YOU LOST LIFE IN YOUR FINAL HOUR

MACLOVIO LOPEZ YOU ARE STILL MY BEST FRIEND

I WILL CHERISH THE MEMORIES YOU AND I HAD

FRESH IN MY MIND STRONG IN MY HEART

IS MY WAY TO REMEMBER OUR RELATIONSHIPS START
