My son Adam attended your German language class at Palo Verde High School. After the initial shock of that horrific day we learned of your heartbreaking fate and it somehow made the unthinkable more real to us. Putting a familiar face to these tragedies and learning how beloved you were made the pain even more intense. As an educator you made a positive and lasting impression on so many. A life well lived and taken much too soon.

Your passing on board American 77 is just sad to me. I am sure you were a good high school teacher, and I recently paid my respects to the lovely teachers you met in heaven from the Sandy Hook tragedy.

One of them was Vicky Soto, who was so brave saving the lives of little kids in her classroom from the gunman. See you in the afterlife someday.

Hi my name is Desi, I go to Shanley High School in Fargo, North Dakota. While I was reading about Barbara I saw that she taught French and German in a school in Las Vegas which I think is very unique thing to teach. I think its great that since she lived in Germany, she gave her knowledge and skill of knowing the culture to a school full of students. I also read she was a very joyful person, which is a great quality to have as a teacher and mother. Im sorry for your loss, she did great things and inspires me not to take my life for granted.

Teachers are such an influence on so many people. I have always loved and appreciated anyone going into that profession. I stop today to say thanks to Barbara for all of her work, and to offer a prayer of encouragement to all of her friends and family. Much love from Texas.

I hope my photograph in some small way can inspire some individuals to visit the memorial and help keep the memory of Barbara and the others etched in our hearts and souls. I have already received notices of plans to visit the site. We are in this together. Godspeed to all.

Ms. Edwards was next door to my Spanish class my sophomore and next door to my math class my senior year. I remember her as being a loud, funny teacher who would always joke with us when she would break for our teacher and I could always hear her class laughing. I graduated 2001 from Palo Verde and I was astonished to find out that she was one who perished in the events of 9/11. My heart goes out to her family and friends. 10 years later she is still missed and forever will be. God bless hers and everyone else soul.

The Edwards family,

My wife and I visited the Pentagon Memorial for the first time ever a few days ago. Totally at random I selected Barbara's site to photograph. This was 100 per cent for my own purposes of reflection and remembrance and not for any publication whatsoever. I decided to put a face on this person and found that she was a teacher, the most important occupation in the world. I know she touched the lives of all of her students and she without a doubt is missed and will be remembered always.
My heart goes out to the Edwards family, friends, and students at this time. Please accept this note and photo as a random act of 9/11 remembrance and sympathy.

Ms. Edwards legacy lives on and she will never be forgotten. Each of us in our 6th grade social studies class at Hutchinson Middle School in Lubbock, Texas was given the name of a HERO who gave their lives on September 11, 2001 for a homework assignment this past Friday, September 11,2009. I was blessed to receive Ms. Edwards name and am finishing up creating a tribute to her. I am including in my tribute, a personal note to her, wonderful stories I have collected from my research of her life and teaching career, and drawings, memorabilia and photographs. We must never forget! I hope it brings you a little comfort knowing Ms. Edwards and the sacrifice she made for us will live on in our school for years to come. Some things you remember all of your life, and Barbara G. Edwards is a name that will stay with me forever.

As we always think about Barbara, today I decided to google her, and came across this guest book, which makes me very glad that she lived such a fulfilled life. Barbara was my mom's best friend and also like a second mom to me. So many years later, I still remember her laugh and her sweet voice. She was funny, honest, and you always knew she was on your side. Barbara obviously made a great impact on her students, friends, and above all her family. I know she is watching over us all with all the other angels...because she definitely takes care of me each day. She was a great person, who loved Germany and teaching German more than anyone I know....no one can replace her...and still no one has.

I was a senior at Palo Verde the year we lost Ms. Edwards. She was my french teacher during my junior year. She had the biggest heart and cared eeply for all who entered her class room. She touched my life personally by caring about me during a hard time. She was a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. Every class she would make sure I was doing ok. Losing her was very hard, not just for me, but for the entire student body and faculty at PV. I will never forget the day we all found out. I was one of the students who set up the memorial in the cafeteria for her. It was a very hard thing to do. Many tears were shed for her loss. It was a loss that has impacted my life. 9/11/01 has personal meaning to me and my family. My brother is a sophomore at Palo Verde, and he is taking french. It saddens my heart that she is not the one teaching him and that he will never get to know what a wonderful person she was.

God bless you Barbara You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

My daughter and niece were both students at Palo Verde High School. Ms. Edwards was slated to be my niece's German teacher. Although we never had the pleasure of meeting her, her legacy lives on.

Barbara and I were back yard neighbors in Hyde Park in Bloomington, Indiana. One day we were chatting in the yard, and a small plane flew over us. Barbara told me that her son was actually the one flying that plane! When I asked her if that scared her, her response was 'No, not really... when your time is up, it's up.' Barbara was an amazing woman, and when I learned of her death this story came to mind. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Honestly, it is only at this point in time that I am able to begin to talk about 9/11 and the incredible loss of Barbara Edwards. Barbara helped train me as a foreign language teacher. She was incredibly patient and kind and she knew that teaching took a ton of daily work and preparation.

I clearly remember her giving me some candy when I first observed her teaching. In between classes I saw her make the mental change from teaching German to teaching French. She was such a great example for me because I eventually became licensed in French and Spanish and had to switch languages just like her. It was incredibly difficult for me to change languages, but I knew it could be done because she was so successful at it.

Barbara, I think of you very often, especially when I am teaching. Thank you for always exemplifying the quality of perserverance.

I had Ms. Edwards as a French teacher my Sophomore year of High School, it was my first year at Palo Verde and she made it my best year. The next year I was so upset to learn on september 12 that she was on the plane that hit the Pentagon. I just found this website today on Thursday, October 16, 2003 and I wish I had known about it sooner. But it was just recently that I could hear someone talk about 9/11 without me breaking down and crying. I love you Ms. Edwards and you will always be remembered...I hope you like the Memorial built for you at the High School. I thought it was very nice it is located in the soccer field, where you would eat lunch and take your classes. I miss you and love you...You will be greatly missed.

On September 11, 2001 thousands of lives changed forever. Mere words cannot adequately express our family's shock, sorrow, and grief over the horrific loss brought about by this senseless act of terrorism. We pray that the lives of the Victims will be remembered far greater than the deaths they each suffered. Barbara Edwards is a testament to that. She was greatly loved and admired by all. We pray for wisdom in the face of this tragedy and hope that every person's life may change to the better. Perhaps this will foster a greater respect for life. Hopefully, we will endeavor to help others in their times of need. Let us try hard to leave a living legacy by caring more for those around us - our families, our friends, and our neighbors.

We never knew any of the victims personally; however, we know that life is very short and fragile and that they have touched many people in their walks here on earth. We pray that your families and close friends will be comforted by the wonderful memories that are forever etched in your hearts.

I was a student of Mrs. Edwards my sophmore year of highschool which was the 98-99 school year. I had a lot of family and personal troubles that year and rarely made it to school, but when I could go I did a lot of times just because I loved her french class so much. She was a wonderful teacher, and I'm sure a wonderful person. Mrs. Edwards was the only person I knew that was taken in the attacks, but I just want you to know that I now serve in the United States Army as of March 2001 and if I am ever given the chance to bring any of the terrorists to justice, I will do whatever I can to make the loss of this great woman and all the others not be in vain.

Dear sons and family,

In July, Barbara sent me the most thoughtful gesture on the passing of my beloved dog, allowing me to mourn the fact that he was indeed my family member. And to me that will always characterize her; Queen of ' The thoughtful gesture'...and the pithy, irreverent comment. I will long miss her email messages so full of the laughter that characterized her beautiful countenance. My hurt runs so deep that I cannot even fathom yours; she was all that was best.
