Brian Dale Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2001.
As far as his family knew Tuesday morning, Brian P. Dale was safe in Los Angeles.

That's where he was supposed to have flown Monday night. But the Warren, N.J., man instead opted to fly out Tuesday morning. His family learned he was on American Airlines Flight 11 when his wife called the airline.

"We all went from thinking he was OK to finding out he was missing--not missing, gone, dead," said his brother, Kevin.

The 43-year-old father of three was traveling on business, something he did often as a founder of a New York City-based investment firm, Blue Capital Management.

Dale loved camping and boating. "He was very focused on family--work and family," his brother said.

As I was watching the names of those who lost their life on 9/11, I noticed Brian's name. My grandmother's maiden name was Dale and I was interested since I do not know of many Dale's. As I researched information about Brian and discovered that he went to Norwin High School, I begant to think that we would be related. I only knew about Earl Dale who was editor for the McKeesport Daily News. So I then discoved that this was Brian's father. So what I have learned is that Brian's grandfather, Albert was my grandmother's brother. I
I express my prayers for Brian's family whom I have just discovered are part of my family. I send God's blessings to them and pray for continued comfort and care.

This ten year anniversary has me thinking once again of my law school classmate, Brian Dale. Brian is one of the nicest people I've known. I'm sure many of my classmates from the Michigan Law School Class of '91 will be thinking of him as we celebrate our 20th class reunion in the next few weeks. My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Many times over the past 10 years, I have thought of my friend Brian Dale. He was a wonderful man, friend from the Pittsburgh area, Dartmouth classmate (he was 1 year older), HPF fraternity brother, and mentor. Boarding Flight 11 (Boston to LA) on 9-11-2001 changed all of that and ended in his senseless death and the deaths of many other innocent people. I am sorry for his loss and I am tearful as I type. My thoughts are with his wife, children, family, and many friends.

Just this evening, my daughter, husband and I were having dinner in Somerville, NJ and walked past a 911 memorial. My daughter asked if my friend's name was on it and I responded no - that Brian Dale didn't live in NJ. I had no idea that he did. I went through junior high & high school with Brian, in almost all the same classes. We lost touch after high school, but even 32 years later I fondly remember his academic brilliance, athletic skills, and kindness to all. My deepest sympathy to all his family and friends who miss him greatly.

My brother, David Caruthers, attended Norwin High School with Brian. He was so saddened by Brian's death. The tragedy of that day touched so many of us. Brian, I know I will never forget your sacrifice that day. God Bless You.

Brian is my cousin. His mother Mary and my mother Carole are sisters. As children we spent many summer days together at Indian Head. We always liked to play board games as children. Brian and his brother had an outstanding model train set up in their basement. I remember listening to the radio with Uncle Earl in his den along with my dad Albert, Kevin (Brian's older brother), Carolyn (Brian's sister) and my sister Merle. On Sunday nights we would listen to "The Shadow". Brian stood well over 6 feet tall and was an outstanding baseball and basketball player in high school. His father was always very proud of all his children. Brian was a good and honest man.

The world is less without him.

To the Family and Friends of Brian:

I am two years older than he would be,but now he will be forever young.

I have walked the same high school halls and bent my knees in the same church of our youth. We grow up and go our separate ways, some like Brian have done such great things. It should be no surprise, for when much is given, much is expected in return, and Brian did this with such grace. He is certainly in the palm of God's hand.

April 19, 2002

To The Family of Brian Dale:

We are a Bible Study group that has been meeting every Tuesday night for the past 11 years. Once a week we add a few dollars to a collection box, and at the end of the month we make a small donation to a worthy cause.

While reading Billy Graham's "Decision Magazine," we were touched by the opportunity to make a donation on behalf of the victims of September 11th by purchasing a Mercy Band.

Several days later we recieved a metal bracelet with Brian Dale's name engraved on it, and we have been praying for your family in this time of sorrow.

During times of tragedy and pain it's difficult to understand God's will for our lives. We hope and pray that you'll call upon the name of Jesus Christ in your time of need, and learn the truth about God.

We want you and the friends of Brian to know that we are praying for you. Take care, and may God bless each of you in your mourning.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I am a friend and former co-worker of Brian's wife, Louanne. After several years of working together, she called to tell me that she'd resigned from her position and was relocating to be with Brian. I remember thinking "he must be extraordinary", and later, I was lucky enough to find out in person that he was. My heartfelt sympathy goes to Louanne, the kids, and Brian's family.
