Don...
I once again told everybody about you as I do and have done always, at every mention of that tragic event and I have just added a 9-11 Memorial album on my FaceBook account where it can be seen by anyone in that new album there if they search for me as Carl Anthony Straus in the FaceBook search box.
There I memorialized you and Janice both, and the 4 other people in that album that were taken from us that fateful day too, back in 2001... all on United Airlines flight 11.
Rest In Peace, Don and Janice and all the others who were ripped from our grasp that day too!
I won't EVER let people forget ANY of you people!

I got a new reminder in my e-mail that so many good people still remember you here Don... I mention yours and N. Janice Lasden's names often, as well as James and Mrs. Trentini's names, every time anyone mentions 9-11-2001.
"Jim" was a Phys-Ed. and Health Teacher at Burlington High School (my own Alma Mater) and a former US Marine. He also was a good man who was cut down in his prime. He was one heck of a good guy who, like you, had helped so many people to preserve and restore their optimum health and maintain wellness, as you did in your critically important Medical Device Manufacturing career. There were no two finer, caring men on God's green Earth!
It was YOU who took me under your wing to teach me all about the F.D.A. Good Manufacturing Practices (F.D.A./G.M.P.'s), a complete system of accountability, control, and traceability on all Medical Devices manufactured. I simply could not have had the great career that I wound up having and now obtained 2 pensions without your mentoring and care.
Thank You sincerely, Don, for the Man that you were!

Hi Uncle Donnie - I thought that as the years go on the grieving process would get easier but it doesn't. 10 years ago you were suppose to go on your dream vacation, but someone had a different journey for you. Just wish that you were still in the real life journey with us.
I went to a ceremony today to honor those lost and was given a letter to hold up at some point in the ceremony. All the letters made "God Bless America". As the ceremony started, I realized the woman handed me the D, not for just the ending of God, but D for your name. I'm so glad that I went today because I really didn't want to go and I would have missed your sign. I love getting your signs because it reassures me that you're still here with me.
Love and miss you not only today, but everyday.

As long as I live and breathe, whenever I hear 9-11-2001 mentioned, I will share your story and keep your memory alive. That is my personal promise to you. Thank you for your influence upon me and my life. Rest In Peace, old friend. AMEN!!!

Dear Uncle Donnie,
We finally heard the words we've been waiting for. Osama Bin Laden is officially dead. It was announced on Sunday night, May 1, 2011. President Obama spoke about the mission and how diligent they were to find Osama. One quote that stuck out from his speech was: Disrupt, Dismantle, Defeat. That's exactly what our military (Navy Seals) carried out. Osama hid for 9 years, 7 months and 20 days but he finally met his fate and the USA found its justice.
On another note, I received the signs you sent me. Your first sign was Friday night through a scratch ticket. The winning numbers on the ticket were 9 and 11. What were the chances of me getting that when a bunch of tickets were handed out before I received the one I was given. The second sign was Saturday night. I was driving w/the kids and looked up at the sky and there was a shooting star going over us. I hope you still give me and others your signs. We love getting them because it shows that you're still with us even though we can't see you.
We all love and miss you. I hope you and Janis are dancing the nights away.
Love always,
Colleen

I am married with a liitle girl now and someday when she is old enough to understand I will try to explain 911 to her and how this world lost many wonderful people including you. Hi Uncle Donnie,
I just wanted to let you know I received your sign last night. I was going to shut off the tv, but the recipient of the Madeline Sweeney award was going to be shown (She was the flight attendant on AA #11 ((the plane you were on)) that called to inform her supervisor what was happening). This annual award is given to a person that was involved in a civilian bravery act. As I waited for the commercials to end, the lottery numbers popped up. Guess what came up in the NH pick 4 numbers... 0994. The month and year of my wedding. I wish that I played the numbers.....
Thank you for the sign. It goes to show that you are still with us and watching over us.
Love,
Colleen

September 10, 2009
Hi Uncle Donnie,
Tomorrow will be the 8th yr anniversary and also my 15th wedding anniversary (I know, the big 15 this year!). What should have been a joyous day has now been filled with mixed emotions. Just think, 15 years ago you and cousin Susan were dancing up a storm at the reception. I think someone has that picture of you two laughing and dancing on the dance floor together. That picture will have to be posted to the site if it turns up.
Tomorrow will be the first time that I'm at work. Ever since the day it happened I've always taken the day off as I never know how I'll feel that day and I've also attended the memorial services. I now feel that I've had some closure and I will be able to handle it. As Leona Lewis sings in her song, "It all gets better in time" and that's what I repeat in my head all the time.
Also it seems that whenever I look at the clock it's always 9:11 am or pm. Don't ever stop sending us your "signs". I get them all the time and it gives me comfort knowing that you're still here with us.
We miss you!
Love,

Don,
You were my mentor, friend, and immediate supervisor when I first entered the world of F.D.A./G.M.P. Medical Device Inspection and you had encouraged me to join the American Society for Quality and to go on to take the certification test to become a Certified Mechanical Inspector. I just can't thank you enough as it had opened many career options to me after I left Smith+Nephew Dyonics! I have been through 2 periods of total disability in my life now and I have you and George Briley to thank for being able to finish raising my 2 daughters as my ex-wife has been fully disabled since her second major car accident back in 1984. It was not an easy task as I am now permanently disabled with many mobility issues due to multiple joint diseases in my lower extremities and chronic depression. I now get 3 times what many other disabled people that I know get for a pension as you had challenged me to be more than average in my career aspirations. Little did I know that when God was calling you to train me right and require my best effort that he was also setting the stage to reward me with a disability pension that would allow me to finish raising my youngest daughter Heidi. She will start classes at the Le Cordon Bleu Institute of the Atlantic Culinary Academy at MacIntosh College, Dover, New Hampshire for dual Associates degrees in Culinary Arts and Liberal Arts in July 2005. I owe you and George my complete gratitude for helping me to still meet my fatherly responsibilities after much hardship and tragedy in my young life. I cannot thank you enough. I moved to Peabody almost 3 years ago, and I pass by the Knights of Columbus Hall on Main Street often. You are present with me here in town always, and in my heart forever! God rest your soul Don!!!
