P. Rosenzweig,
software designer
Philip Rosenzweig of Acton, an employee of Sun Microsystems, was among the victims killed in the crash of American Airlines Flight 11 at the World Trade Center in New York City on Tuesday. He was 47. Mr. Rosenzweig was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., and graduated from high school in Hewlett, N.Y. He was a 1976 graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he obtained a degree in computer science. Mr. Rosenzweig moved to the Boston area to begin his career at Data General. He later worked at Wang, Xyplex, and, most recently, Sun Microsystems. He was the director of horizontal scaling within Sun's Software Systems Group. He and his development team had several software patents awarded by the US Patent Office. He was involved in mentoring RIT graduates, and created partnerships with RIT and Sun Microsystems. Mr. Rosenzweig was an avid tennis player and sports car enthusiast. He leaves his wife, Lauren (Suskin), and two sons, Jeremy and Max, all of Acton; his father, Harold, and stepmother, Evelyn, of Hewlett, N.Y.; his mother, Ruth Berman of Las Vegas; and a brother, Allen, of Boca Raton, Fla. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in Congregation Beth Elohim in Acton.

I am reading about Philip's legacy and want to say to his family that his memory is not forgotten. There is a tribute page on Oracle that is also listing the names of those colleagues lost that day....never forgotten. I want to say to his wife and sons that their husband/father's memory is in the hearts of people who never even met him. This is a beautiful tribute and it is clear that he was a lovely person.
Blessings to you all.

Nineteen years later I’d like to express my deepest condolences to Phil’s family and friends. Phil and I went to RIT together and he kindly agreed to tutor me in computers. Without his guidance I wouldn’t have passed that class. What I remember most about him was his gentle, kind guidance. I think of him every year and how hard it must be to be without him. Please know I keep you all in my heart and have done so since day one.

I worked in a club in Concord, MA. where Phil and his family were members at.
He always made it a point to say hello and/or smile if he saw me. He was a great family man.
I left the club a year before sept. of 2001 and was shocked when they showed those who were lost on the planes on television.
Although it's been 15 years it's still like yesterday seeing him.
My heart goes out to his family and friends. Especially his wife and kids.

Even though it's been 54 years since I've seen Phil, I remember him as if it were yesterday. Phil was in my homeroom for 3 years in Hewlett High School. One might not think that was enough time to get to know someone, but I did know that he was caring, kind, and dependable. I enjoyed talking with Phil about many things.
My prayers and thoughts are with you all as you remember him today and always.

Although I never met Phil, it feels as though I knew him. Working for Sun Microsystems at the time of the horrific events, EVERY Sun employee would soon discover a member of the Sun Microsytems family had fallen. As this date comes around, I think of Phil often, as I also think of all his family, and friends. We will NEVER forget those we lost on September 11, 2001. You're thought of often Phil, by many who loved you, as well as by many who didn't know you personally, but worked for Sun, or one of the other computer companies you worked at prior. You're always in our hearts and minds.

Even though I never met Philip, I was working at Sun at the time and the horrific events were made personal in the fact that we lost a fellow colleague. Since then I've often thought of him and his family. I recall the bench on campus facing west. Very peaceful and elegant by the garden. I inquired thru a friend at Facebook if the bench is still there but he didn't seem to have seen it. I sure hope it was respectfully transported to Philip's family. God bless.

It is approaching the 13th anniversary of 9/11, I still feel heart-broken about losing Phil as a friend. For several years, I worked with him at Sun Microsystems and then when I went to Rainfinity, Phil and had a number of meetings, and he was still the nicest man that I had worked with.. He approved me testing the Rainfinity HA / LB (high availability/ load balancing software) in his lab. It was a complimentary product. The testing was a huge success., Phil was always insightful, very intelligent, open to ideas, funny, and a very kind person. For all of these reasons, I miss him and think of his wife and children all the time. I hope they are doing well.

I worked with Phil at Sun and spent a lot of time with him. My last time with him was over a beer and meal in Palo Alto in California with several of his friends and colleagues. The meal ts memorable for the non- stop laughter over references (many from Phil) over the foibles of the higher ups at Sun. At one point Phil couldn't stop laughing and bent over laughed until he was in pain. It was a joyous night and I choose to remember Phil laughing so hard it hurt. As the Russians sing at their service of rememberance, "Memory Eternal"
You will always be remembered, Phil!

Phil and I were great friends growing up and I spent a lot of time at Phil's house with his Dad and his stepmom and his brother. We maintained that friendship through marriage. We were car guys and after losing touch briefly, Phil contacted me when he was buying his Porsche. We started up again like we had just seen each other.
I think today would have been Phil's 53rd birthday and if he were here we would probably be on the phone talking cars and family.
I was there immediately after the tragedy attending Jeremy's bar mitzvah and hanging out with Max and Lauren. I couldn't believe how blessed he was and if he were here today I am sure he would be talking about his wonderful family.
Rest in peace old friend - we all miss you.

I went to Delhi College at the same time that Philip went. I met him thru the Drama Department, and while I never came to know him well, I came to treasure his warm, gentle smile. He was a genuinely nice person, and you could see even then the fine man that he would grow to become. I think of him often, especially at this time of the year when the anniversary comes upon us again, and the sky becomes the same clear, unsuspecting blue that it was that awful day. He will not be forgetten, nor will any of the others, and we honor them by the good works that we do towards the rest of mankind. My prayers are with his family, and for his children.

May 17, 2007
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Phillip and I were contemporaries in District 14 and first became acquainted in kindergarten at Hewlett Elementary. As I look back at that time, I remember Phillip living right across the street from the school entrance and I can't say that I was particularly jealous of this. As others from that era have already attested, you could see even in kindergarten that this was brilliant kid destined for a great career in science/technology. When hearing belatedly of this horrible tragedy, I was not at all surprised to learn that he left us after having achieved great success and recognition in the computer science field. To his loved ones and closest friends, I wish you all my deepest sympathies. May Philip forever rest in peace.

I went to school with Phil most of my childhood, from first grade right through high school. I remember Phil as being a very quiet and gentle guy with a passion for math and science. He had a quiet way about him, and even though he was always one of the brightest students in the class, he did not like to show off. It was such a shock to hear of his loss. There is nothing I can say to make that pain any less except that Phil's life touched so many people, and they are all better people for having known him. Phil was a good guy. May his memory be a blessing.

Dear Rosenzweig Family-
I drew Philip's name by random at a memorial mass for the victims we had at our parish last night. To my surprise I have learned that we have many things in common, gender, age(47), and being father of young sons. From what I've read, he sounds like a great guy and a good person--and I miss him even though we never met. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep Phil and your family in my daily prayers. God Bless.
"For to His angels He's given a command
to guard you in all of your ways.
Upon their hands they will bear you up,lest you dash your foot against a stone.
And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun-and hold you in the palm of his hand."

I remember the first day I met Phil. We met at work, and I was doing my first "big" assignment - I was to do a collage of executives on the East Coast discussing what Leadership means to them. Phil was one of my interviewees. Although I can't remember his exact words, I knew during the interview that Phil must be a great leader, manager, husband, father and friend. His words were simply inspiring.
I saw Phil many other times, mostly getting our morning coffees at work. He always had a smile on his face.
When I think of the WTC disaster, I see Phil's smile, and hear his voice. I know the pain I feel, even now, a year later.
Phil, your memory lives strong.
Lauren, Jeremy, Max and family - please know that your "rock" touched many, many lives. I am deeply saddened for your loss. We will never forget.

My sincere condolences to all of the loved ones of Philip Rosenzweig. Today, on this sad one year anniversary of this horrible tragedy, I am proudly wearing a wristband given out in the Wilmington Public School system with Mr. Rosenzweig's name on it. I have said prayers for him and his family members during the day and have found some very beautiful tributes to him "on-line". Please know that I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. The children in the Wilmington Middle School planted the first tree in their "Memory Garden" this morning in honor of all those who left us on 9/11/01. I offer my sincere condolences to Phil's loving wife, two boys, and his parents. I worked with Phil at Sun and spent some time with him on a flight back from France after a Sun conference. I had the pleasure of learning all about Phil's wonderful family on that flight. Phil told me stories of his wife and how they had met and married and of his wonderful boys and growing up in New York. He talked about his parents and about his favorite deli in Manhattan. We talked about his Porsche and of my upcoming marriage. Phil gave me advice on my upcoming wedding and comforted me when I was scared on our flight. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Phil was an exceptional man and truly someone I looked up to at Sun Microsystems as a leader and friend.

Jeremy and family,
I want you to know that although I am no longer working at Academy MetroWest, I think of you often, especially on this first anniversary. May the support of friends and family carry you as you grieve.
