Candace Williams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2001.
On the Way to Hollywood
How to comprehend the terrible symmetry that returned Candace Lee Williams to the place of her triumph, the World Trade Center? A 20-year-old student in the cooperative work-study program at Northeastern University in Boston, she toiled from January to June at Merrill Lynch as an intern on the 14th floor of 1 World Trade Center. "They loved her there so much, they took her out to dinner on her last day, and sent her home in a limousine," said her mother, Sherri. "Then they wrote Northeastern a letter saying, `Send us five more like Candace.'"

After finishing midterm exams in her June-to-December schedule, instead of returning home to Danbury, Conn., Ms. Williams agreed to meet her Northeastern roommate, Erin, at her home in California. "They'd rented a convertible preparing for the occasion, and Candace wanted her picture taken with that Hollywood sign," her mother said. So on Sept. 11 in Boston, Candace boarded Flight 11, which was then hijacked and sent crashing into the same trade center tower where she had worked. "The airline told us she was seated next to an 80-year-old grandmother on the plane," her mother said, "and I know that Candace was consoling that woman to the last."

Candace .. Today 9/9/23 coming up on the 22nd year from when some extremely bad individuals decided it was OK for them to take your life and so many others. To the family and friends of Candace ... please know that Candace will never be forgotten. Hearing about Candace's consoling nature makes me think that whenever you experience something cool or want to do something special for someone, share these moments with her ... the goosebumps you feel at that moment, sharing it with Candace, I believe is your 1-on-1 connection with her. I can feel that Candace was a very special person ! .. with much regards ...

I happen to live in a house where your mother lived and I still have memorial stone with your name in my back yard by flag pole. I keep it up and light a candle every year. RIP you not forgotten.

Dear Candice,
The tragic events in Texas last month were really saddening. Like, the El Paso one and the Odessa shooting. And some young lives were taken too soon last week, one of which was a 15-year-old girl.
It almost mirrors your loss from 9/11.
I will think of you once that tragic anniversary comes, though.

June 10, 2019

Candace, its so sad to me that you died at 20 yrs. old on 9/11. You probably couldve been married, had a good career or had children if you were with us today. Im sure your parents miss you terribly.

September 13, 2018

You were only 20 all those years ago on 9/11. So young, so much promise ahead of you before that horrific day that took your life. You'd be 37, you'd probably have a wonderful career, a fantastic husband and family of your own. You were robbed of that but my faith tells me that you have much, much more in heaven and that gives me hope. Life is eternal and you entered eternity just a whole lot sooner than what is normally expected. But you are missed and grieved for by those of us left behind. And you are never to be forgotten.

I recently visited NYC on a business trip, specifically in One World Trade Center. As I left the building I walked around the Memorial and took a quick photo. Yesterday, on 9/11, I looked at that photo, and the name that is most visible in my photo is Candace Lee Williams. I now have her name written on a post-it note in my office. So sorry for your loss. Candace is not forgotten.

Candace. I did not meet you, at least not that I can remember. I didn't meet your mother or your brother or any of your close family sadly. But my mother, Ruth, has spoken of you before. She told me you where a college student going to meet someone that day, but that's not all she told me. She told me that you where also from Danbury. She said you where a beautiful young woman, caring and kind. People still speak highly of you, and your mother never stopped missing you that's sure for sure. God bless you, Candace!

~ A Poem for You ~

Never met you,
never heard you,
never got to know you,
outside of chit and chat and memories from the past. But I'll be sure give you a blessing or two you don't even have to ask.

September 13, 2014

To Candace's brother Cory, I hope you will visit Northeastern University to see the beautiful grown tree we planted as a tiny sapling 13 years ago for Candace. We have never forgotten her and you would have been impressed that hundreds of faculty and students turned out for the yearly memorial service we hold for her each year. The memorial stone was replaced in 2007 and now describes Candace with a beautiful poem. I personally will never forget her.

Just read all the info re: this beautiful young woman. My hometown is Danbury, but I moved away in '91 to beautiful upstate NY. My youngest daughter also went to Northeastern, and graduated Cum Laude, in spite of her parents divorce, thus the loss of her childhood home, and her very beloved Grandmas death. Thank you God that she is alive and well. My heart is overwhelmed with sorrow for the loss of this much loved young lady named Candace. I know her memory will live on, and pray that her family is well.

Candace, I have to tell you that you cracked me up the other day. I was watching the new 90210 (pathetic, I know) and all I could think of was me and you actually watching TV over the phone. Sitting silently through the show and then talking nonstop about what had happened during the commerical breaks! Only us! You are missed and loved, which is quite obvious from the number of visitors you get... I used to bring you flowers on this day evey year -- but now I have moved far away - and so please know - I have not forgotten!

November 11, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I can't believe that 6 years has past. I think back to that horrific day as I was on co-op at State Street Corp. in Boston. As we watched the news unfold on CNN, we silently looked out over Logan Airport. Growing up in NJ only an hour from NYC, my greatest fear was the number of friends who were lost that day. It wasn't until several days after the attacks, while viewing pictures of the victims that I came across Candace's picture. I was speachless as I stared at the screen. I shared several classes freshman year with Candace and Erin and although we were not close friends I could (and still do) feel the loss of her. As I was reading through the other memories left in this guest book, a smile came over my face reading Meghan McGovern's posting. I too can still picture Candace sitting in class with her baseball cap! Although you are gone, you are not forgotten.
My condolences to the Williams' family.
