Michael Theodoridis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 16, 2001.
Almost Parents

Rahma Salie, of Sri Lankan descent, grew up in Japan. Michael Theodoridis, of Greek descent, grew up in Switzerland. She was a Muslim; he converted to Islam before they married in 1998. They had received some good news a few months earlier.

Ms. Salie, 28, a graduate of Wellesley College, was chief operating officer of Cinoni, and Mr. Theodoridis, 32, a graduate of Boston University, was a technology consultant in Cambridge, Mass. They lived on the outskirts of Boston and were passengers on American Airlines Flight 11 on Sept. 11, on their way to a wedding in California.

Abdullah Haydar worked for Mr. Theodoridis at I-Cube, and when they first met, he informed his boss that he needed to go to a mosque on Fridays at lunchtime. "He said, `Yeah, yeah I know,' but with a name like Michael Theodoridis, you would not necessarily expect that."

Mr. Haydar remembers that he seemed to serve as Mr. Theodoridis's conscience during Ramadan, when Muslims are supposed to fast unless they are traveling. "He'd be in Germany during Ramadan, drinking a Coke, and he'd be like, `No, no, I just got here on the flight, I'm not not fasting," Mr. Haydar said. "It was a friendly thing between us."

When Mr. Haydar last heard from him, Mr. Theodoridis told him how excited he was at the prospect of becoming a father. Ms. Salie was seven months' pregnant with their first child.

Friend Of Rhama& Mickey

April 7, 2018

I miss you today more than usual Mickey. You and Rahma were both shining becons of light, warmth, understanding and kindness in what has since become an even colder, darker, decidedly more ignorant, and cruel world.
You were Woke before we new what Woke was. You were ahead of your time. Your Soul is a Gem. A precious jewel that shined its way through life, illumination all who were fortunate enough to share their time and their lives,
I could come to you for Anything. I could count on you. I know you Cared about me and my life #1 and my work #2. I saw this with employmee after employmee. Mickey Loved the people he worked with. That's we surrounded himself with great people that made his family outside of home. We had Slumber parties, Mickey would buy out the whole club for his crew just to bond and hang. This was before google.
Mickey was a visionary. I didn't know Rahma as well as Mickey, but I knew enough to know that everything I have said applies to Her also, and that she Is and Was and Angel walking around with us her one earth. We are very fortunate to occasionally have people like that here on earth for a time, however brief, and we are very fortunate to have been lucky enough to have these Amazing people in our lives for Any time, however brief. It is fortunate that two such rare and fantastic individuals were able to find each other here on earth and join together. Exceptional individuals of Greatness, often attract other fantastic people. Michael and Rahma were surrounded by Exceptional Family, Friends, and Colleagues.
Though I miss our talks and his always open door, open ear, and open heart, I must be grateful for the time we have and my ferverent faith & prayer that I will see you both soon & for eternity, in a place where there is No pain sorrow sadness and your family lives in joy together forever. And ever & ever &ever...
Amen

My Friends, God Bless You! Always...

Oh its soo terrible to think of the lives of these fabulous people and their unborne child that were taken. Less than a month before the tragedy my wife, Rahma, Mickey and i discussed how our daughters were being borne possibly in the same month and how they would grow up together. Now as on every 9/11 i look at my daughter Claire who will be 11 on October 5th, and it saddens me to the core to know what could have been for our friends.

To the family and friends of Michael Theodoridis:
Michael will be held in the hearts of Americans forever. I cannot and will not allow those we lost on 9/11 be forgotten. My deepest sympathy to you.

Mickey was one of my bosses when I was working as a temp for three months at Identrus in 1999. I remember him as being so kind and excited about life. I was making a career change then, and I remember telling that I would be leaving to start school. He was heartily supportive and said, among other things, "Hey, you only live once!"

The Friday before Tuesday 9/11, I sat in a room for a conference call schedule for 4 PM, with Mickey. While waiting for the call to begin, we shared our plans for the next week. My oldest son would turn 16 years old I told him the coming Tuesday. He told me that he and his wife were expecting their first child. Mickey told me how excited he was to become a dad and how much both families were looking forward to becoming grandparents. I can only express my great sorrow and condolences for Mickey and Rhama's families. I think of them and their families on my son's birthday each year on September 11th.

Today, 8 years later, 9/11 seems so long ago. But today my heart feels heavy as I go about my day.

Today I remember Micky and Rhama. I worked with Mickey at i-Cube. He was a wonderful individual, always smiling and such a pleasure to work with. I remember meeting his wife and being so struck by her beauty.

Their deaths and the death of their unborn baby is such an immense tragedy. I am thinking of their whole family, and all the families, today and often.

Peace.

It's nearly 8 years later and I still vividly remember the day shortly after 9/11 when it went from being a national tragedy to also being a more personal tragedy for me after I found out that Micky and Rahma were on Flight 11. Each summer when my second son has another birthday, I think about Micky's unborn child being the same age as I remember Micky congratulating me and telling me how excited he was about his future as a father.

I pray that they both rest in peace and be granted a place in Heaven. Ameen.

In a business culture full of people whom you forget and whom forget you the instant you part, both Micky and Rhama were anything but forgettable. I still remember Rhama asking me to do an imitation of her accent and it makes me laugh with the memory. Like someone else who commented on this site, it was also Michael's humour, patience and support that kept me going in a very difficult work situation. The world is a much colder place without these two stellar human beings.

I worked with Mickey on multiple projects in i-Cube (Stuttgart, Germany; Phoenix, AZ and later in NYC). He was a great friend of mine in addition to being a professional colleague. He was very funny and used to crack me up at difficult times. He worked very hard and managed to keep his sense of humor. He and Rahma were made for each other. It is sad that they could not be together longer. It's so sad! My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Your good friend,

- Jay.

I am immensely saddened at this tribute. Today is 9/11/2004 and it seems like yesterday that all of these precious people were lost. I didn't know Mickey and Rhama, but they were a handsome couple and appeared very happy. Perhaps, God knew they were destined to be soul mates...they completed one another. From their story, it is hard to imagine one surviving without the other. They and their child have gone to place where they are forever young, forever beautiful, forever a family.

As a student of the University of Pittsburgh, I picked a flag off of the lawn of our Cathedral of Learning today with the intent of finding a way to send it to the family of the person whose name was on it. I chose Michael's flag and would like to know how I can get in touch with his family to mail them this flag that was placed on the lawn by a student and removed by a student who would like to add to the memory of this man. I can be contacted at [email protected].

Today is September 11, 2002, one year to the day. I awoke this morning thinking intensely of Mickey and Rahma. I worked with Mickey at i-Cube, but not closely. We hardly knew one another. I have met Rahma only once and very briefly. There are people in this world that exude peace, love and kindness and that is what I think of when I remember Mickey and Rahma. A tear comes to my eye as I write this note, because there will be a deep void in all of us that knew them no matter how briefly. The world is missing three lovely human beings. I believe that they are with God, Angels watching over their loved ones. I pray for Mickey, Rahma and their child and for all of their family and friends. I pray that you will find peace and solace in Gods love for all of you. I feel truly blessed that I had the privilege of knowing both Mickey and Rahma. May God bless and keep all of you.

I did not know mikki & Rama..but I have had their picture with me since 9/11..my daughter was their friend and they had just come back from a vacation on nantucket..she had celebrated their wedding..she mourned their loss... as we watched that morning..she knew..though she may not realize I mourned with her..it is a moment when timestood frozen ..it changed me.. I will never forget..and for some unexplainable reason I hold them a dear place in my heart and in my prayers ..a loving couple who were not expecting death..just a baby..

I didn't know Micky & Rhama very well, but I knew from the few times I met them that they were special people. I admired their love for one another, their kindness to their friends and most of all, I admired their zest for life. I think of them everyday. My deepest condolences go out to their families. I will always remember Micky & Rhama. Gob Bless them and their families.

Mickey, I first met you on a joint project at Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt. Your competence, integrity and civility led me through many difficult times and showed me that one could be both successful and honourable in our profession. God bless you, Mickey. Your spirit and your smile light my way, always.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
