Although it has been almost 9yrs now since that terrible day please know it has not been forgotten. I ordered a braclet shortly after 9/11 to honor one of the brave Americans who was killed. I was sent FF Louis Arena FDNY Ladder 5. Each year I wear my braclet for the month of Sept. to honor him. I was happy to find this website today honoring him too. Please know he will never be forgotten and god bless you and your family! It is truely an honor to wear this braclet in his memory.

Today, September 11, 2009 I walked with 343 firefighters up the 55 stories of the Qwest building in downtown Denver.....twice. We each wore full firefighting gear and wore the picture of a firefighter that perished. Mine was Louis Arena. I don't know Louis except for the fact that he and I were born about 40 years ago. Tonight my seven year old daughter is sleeping next to his picture hoping that nothing happens to her daddy. To the family of Louis Arenas......we will never forget!

Wanda and Family,
I worked for many years along side this brave man at Staten Island Boat Sales. As a matter of fact I was assigned to work along his side on my very first day of work there. I will never forget that day...a new job, new people... Louis mad it very easy for me though, same as he had for anyone that knew him.
I also remember the last time as I ever saw him. Louis had not come to work for weeks because his dad was ill. To tell you the truth I had no idea he was even coming in that day. At the time I was on the road crew for Staten Island Boat Sales and I had left the shop that morning as I always had.
Pulled out of the lot and made a left onto Mansion Avenue, a right onto Cleveland and a left onto Hartford heading to Nelson Avenue. I was driving down Hartford and noticed Louis coming down the opposite side. Well I stopped in the middle of the street forcing him to stop. Put it in park and got out, ran over to his car, reached in and grabbed his head and gave him a big wet kiss right on his cheak!! He had not shaved and I can actually still remember the feeling of the stubble from his beard.
I miss you Lou A., as you were refered to by your SIBS buddies. We all do...
Love,
Dominick
PS: Neat trick getting that ring off my finger that day. Thanks

Dear Family & Friends of Louis Arena,
It's difficult to believe that three years have passed since that fateful day. Although we are all trying to adjust to living in a Post-9/11 World, we will NEVER forget. Louis Arena will ALWAYS be remembered as a true American Hero and a Shining Example of a Life Well-lived! Even though I never had the privilege of meeting him, his story has touched my life in a very special way.

Dear Sal, Nayda, Susan, Mark, John and Louis' wife, Wanda and their children:
It never occured to me to look under Louis' name in this tribute book. I lost 2 very dear people on 9/11, and am still broken hearted over it. But I KNOW that the Lord watches over all of us, and comforts us, each and every single one of us, if we only call out HIS name. Nayda, Sal and kids, we love you so very much...you are all so dear. Nayda, I praise God that you've been healed, and I know that you've always counted on HIM to do the healing. I ask in HIS name that Louis' wife and kids will be healed with the same love, comfort and faith that only our LORD can provide. May the Lord richly bless each and every single one of you now and always....Love ya now and always. Nayda, it doesn't matter if we don't see or speak to each other that often ..Kids...what can you do? But you must know that I love you very, very much. It doesn't matter how long we go without seeing each other...working on ministry unites us in heaven, right? Wanda---keep the faith--HE's not going anywhere

When I was born, you were eight,
And you probably watched me drool.
Growing up I looked at you as the epitome of “COOL”.
As time went on and we both grew up
You became more than just Uncle Louie,
You showed me just how proud it was to be part
Of your family.
Almost every memory I have of you
You’re either helping someone or cooking.
I wonder now if you even knew that was always looking.
I would watch you in awe
As you battled any task,
And you were always being yourself
Never once wearing a mask.
There was something about your aura-
And how you lit up any room,
Your face was always cheerful
Never once did it present gloom.
Then I heard you became a fireman
One of the bravest careers I know-
And when you got any call
You were anxious and ready to go.
It was on September 11,2001
When you met your final calling,
You went into the North Tower
To pick up civilians who were falling.
You were climbing your stairway to Heaven
As others ran the opposite way,
Survivors you helped there,
Will never forget your face on that day.
You left home that Tuesday morning
And little did you know-
That from that day forward
I’d remember you as:“My Uncle the Hero”
Love, your niece Denise

DEAR WANDA
I JUST RECIEVED LOUIS'S MEMORIAL BRACLET. I DID AS MUCH RESEARCH ON LOUIS THAT I COULD FIND.
AS A RETIRED CAPTAIN OF 30YEARS OF SERVICE ON THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST FIRE DEPARTMENT I HAVE FELT THE PAIN OF ALL OF MY BROTHERS THAT
GAVE THIER LIVES HELPING OTHERS ON THAT MOST TRAGIC DAY OF SEPTEMBER 11th.BUT I KNOW HE WOULD DO IT AGAIN BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT BEING A FIRE FIGHTER IS ABOUT.
IT IS VERY IRONIC THAT OUT OF THE 343 MEN THAT GAVE THIER LIFE FOR OTHERS THAT GOT LOUIS'S BRACELET.
MY WIFE ,DEBBIE, AND I LOVE KEY WEST. WE WERE MARRIED THERE NOV. 1 1999. WE WILL BE THERE IN OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR.I WILL REMEMBER LOUIS WHILE WE ARE THERE AND SAY A SPECIAL PRAYER FOR YOU.
JIMMY BUFFET IS FROM PASCAGOULA, MS. WERE MY WIFE AND I LIVE
I WILL ALSO BE IN LAS VAGAS IN AUGUST FOR THE INTERNATIONAL FIREFIGHTERS CONVENTION.
THE MEMORIAL SERVICE THAT MONDAY MORNING WILL BE EVEN MORE SPECIAL FOR ME BECAUSE I WILL HAVE YOUR HERO TO HONOR AND PRAY FOR THAT DAY
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND TAKE CARE OF YOU.

This Memorial Day, I want to pay special tribute to Louis Arena and his 7 brothers from FDNY Ladder 5- who gave their lives so courageously on 9/11. Several months ago, while I was researching the symbol of "The Phoenix" as a possible logo for my new company, I came upon an internet link that led me to Ladder 5's Company Patch- that also bears the logo of "The Phoenix." Another firefighter told me of the company's great losses on 9/11, and after learning the personal stories of each of these fine men, I adopted the logo of "The Phoenix" and named my company to honor their memory.
To the family and friends of Louis Arena, and his brothers at Ladder 5- who are left to carry on his noble work, I offer you my deepest condolences and prayers. I know that even though Louis is no longer with you, his spirit will live in your hearts forever. I pray that God will give all of you the strength to continue to bring his light to the world, and I promise I will honor his memory always.

My daddy just came back from ground zero and returned with Louis Arena's bracelet. Imediately I wanted to know more about him- who he really was. Reading about him brought tears to my eyes. Dear Wanda, JoAnn and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Louis' passing. I ran into Tony D'Anna who told me of his supreme sacrifice. We all worked together at Tallulah's when we were teenagers and I remember with great fondness my time there with JoAnn, Sancere and the whole fun crew. It's so shocking and unbeleivable that this has happened and my heart breaks for you all. I cannot begin to imagine all you have gone through and I needed to reach out to you to let you know Louis is in my prayers. I also pray that you can find some small peace in the FACT that Louis saved so many others and is in a much better place now where there are no wars or hatred only love. I believe God keeps a special place for hereos and now he is certainly there with his brothers.
God bless you all.
With much love,

Reading the tribute and messages of love written in honor of your beloved Louis brings tears to my eyes. DEDICATED IN HONOR OF LOUIS ARENA. A HUSBAND, A FATHER, A NEIGHBOR AND FRIEND. HIS HEROIC ACTS ON SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2001 WILL NEVER EVER BE FORGOTTEN.
Neighbors
I saw you last when we were moving
You stopped to chat for only moments
We talked of moving and future plans
The growth of children put much demands
We bid farewell and parted paths
We knew you’d leave as others had
You put your plans in motions too
You’d look for a house and move real soon
You woke for work so full of life
You bid farewell to the kids and wife
You got to work as you always have
To put your best in all your plans
But the 1st alarm came much too soon
You rushed on out not even noon
What laid ahead you could not tell
The horror, the screaming, the building fell
We watched and mourned and when all was done
We could not believe that you were gone
We pray for you and others too
My neighbor, my friend, we’ll miss you Lou!

What a heartwarming, friendly and loving smile Louis has in the picture you have shared with us. An incredible reflection of his heart. A further reflection of his warm heart is the dedication he had to save lives and fight fires. May Louis's courage, life and love live on in all who love him and in those who have been touched by his life. Through his life, his bravery and his story, he has touched my life and a part of him has become a part of me and a part of everyone in America. May you always feel the warmth of his love as it radiates deeply into your hearts. May yesterday's warm memories and the essence of his loving scents as a husband and firefighter lighten the pain in your heart. We are deeply sorry for our nation's loss of Louis. Our hearts cry deeply with you in America's loss of a hero.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Dear Arena Family,
My son Thomas James is buried two graves over from Louis' at Moravian. Louis is a hero and so is Tommy. Tommy worked at the World Financial Center and on 9/11 he helped people out of the Winter Garden. When the last person was safe, only then did he run for his life as so many others did. Unfortunately the stress of those events took their toll on him and on 10/8 he died of a massive heart attack. He was 37 years old. I talk to Tommy, Louis and Jeffrey Walz who is buried right next to Tommy each time I go to the cemetery. (Jeffrey also died on 9/11). They will never be forgotten. I have wanted to say thank you to a firefighter's family, but I didn't know how to go about it. My husband Andy worked for Cantor Fitzgerald in the north tower and was killed that day. Your husband tried to save him. For that I am eternally grateful. We also have a son named Joseph, age 5, and a daughter named Nina, age 2. As we all struggle to get through this, you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

To the family of Louis Arena,
As I scan all the names in this horrible time, and my eyes fall upon the name of your loved one. The one that has trained to save lives and in the process lost his. He is a star in Gods eye and now is in Gods arms. I have many friends that are firefighters and they should be held in the highest regards as they are the ones that charge in and don't think of their own safety but the safety of others in a great time of need. I pray for you and yours as you go though something that is so senseless as this. That God grant you peace and strength during this time in our history. I can not know the full feeling that you have at the loss of you loved one but as a nation I feel we all feel a great deal of grief. My the Lord be with you and protect you, my eyes are filled to the brim with tears as I express the to you. I am so sorry for the loss, you are feeling. In John 14, 1/7 God says Let not you heart be troubled, believe God, believe also in me (Jesus) for in my fathers house are many dwelling places, if it was not so I would have told you, for I (Jesus)go to prepare a place for you. I will come again receive you to myself. (This is a promise from God that we will be reunioned again with Him, and our loved ones. My He bless and keep you now.

Having the same namesake as myself , I felt especially saddened by Mr. Arena's passing. I received many calls from friends and relatives in Italy who thought he may be related and they expressed such sadness at his passing . He died a hero and will never be forgotten for his heroic actions...

i am still crying as i see in my mind again and again those brave heroes running in where angels fear to tread, through thousands of innocent victims desperately trying to escape horror. Louis was just going to save people and his spirit will save many to come... He will always be in my prayers ... mike
