Here we are again, brother! Another year has gone by and I have been struggling with what to say today. You were the best, plain and simple. Selfless, full of life, great (and at times a little warped) sense of humor. You are missed and remembered by all of my family, especially my son. I got to see him grow up because of you. That will never be forgotten by me and everyone who loves him. Rest easy, brother, until we meet again.

CHRIS WAS BROUGHT TO MY HOUSE ON MCAS CHERRY PT BY A BFF OF MINE KIM.
I WAS INTRODUCED TO CHEETAH. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS, HE HAS THE CUTEST SMILE. I WAS A GS LEADER, AND WE WERE PUTTING ON AN EVENT FOR THE GIRLS. KIM ASKED CHEETAH IF HE WANTED TO BE PART OF THE EVENT AND HE SAID HE DID.
CHRIS AND ME BECAME FRIENDS, AND HE LOVED MY KIDS, AND THEY LOVED HIM.
HE MADE US ALL SMILE AND LAUGH.
I WAS ON THE FREEWAY IN WDC WHEN THE PLANE THAT HIT THE PENTAGON, FLEW RIGHT OVER OUR HEADS.
THAT WAS THE DAY THAT PO-3 CHRISTOPHER BURFORD LOST HIS LIFE AT THE PENTAGON.
ONE OF THE SAFEST PLACES IN THE UNITED STATES, OR SO WE THOUGHT.
I THINK ABOUT YOU ALL THE TIME. SEMPER FI
RIP CHEETAH

They say time heals all wounds and that it's suppose to get easier but it doesn't seem that way. Even though we grew up states away from each other we were family, cousins in fact. That is a bond that will never be broken, here on Earth or in the after life. You protected us while you were alive and continue to protect us from above. For that cuz I will forever be grateful. Say HI to the family and tell them that I will see them when I see them. Love & miss you Chris

Chris,
16 years...hard to imagine. Because of your small act of kindness, the ripple of your effect is infinite. You do not realize the impact that you have given me and my oldest son. He gets to have memories with his father not of his father. He is a senior this year and will turn 18 in a few short months. His father-in-law John Osborne will continue to see him grow in to a handsome, kind, and respectful young man. This is all because of you.
For a long time I was unaware of your sacrifice. But since I found out...well today just means more than I can express. Between that and my work as a FF, and where I was on that day.......you are remembered and Loved much by those you didn't have a chance to meet - yet!
Till I see you in heaven,
With Love,
John Osborne

It's hard to believe that 15 years have passed since that day. I'm on my last deployment and in just a few years I'll retire from active duty, but it seems like only yesterday we were at Great Lakes talking about getting out of the Navy as soon as we could. You are still missed and still loved, brother. Take care up there and keep a watchful eye on us. We'll handle things on this end. Until we meet again.

Chris, we went to visit you yesterday and today I'll be making your favorites, king ranch casserole and peanut butter fingers to share with family and friends. We celebrate your life, not only today, but every day and smile when we think about you and your antics! Gotta give it to you, you're the original prankster! Love and hugs all around for you today. We'll be celebrating you, crying a tear or two, but we'll go on with life, missing you but carrying you around in our hearts.

We went to school and I was too deep in Afghanistan and in the hospital later to really say goodbye. One day I might find the courage to do so. You were the rising star of our class, just didn't know you would really rise beyond us all so soon. Miss you.

This day always leaves me wondering what might have been. I've been helping our Chief Selects get the ship's ceremony for 9/11 ready and keep thinking I wish there was no need to do this every year because that would mean it never happened. But it did and everyone who ever met you still misses you. You are never forgotten, brother. Later.
