Each year, I randomly pick a few names from the list of people who were taken from us on 09/11. This year, Kip was one of the names I picked to read about.
Although I never knew Kip, his strength is evident in the testimonies and memories of the people who knew him. I'm honored to read about his legacy, and may he live on in the hearts of the people who knew him. May he rest in peace, and may he never be forgotten.

From a generation that walked to school, played kick the can and flashlight tag it seems only fitting that someone from Ypsilanti says something in tribute.
When my folks moved me to school in Ann Arbor and you off to Berlin, our time as neighbors had ended, but now as I consider the depth of your service I was privliged to call you friend, and to have known you when I did.

Kip, I miss you greatly, and mourn your loss daily. You made BAHS a special place for me. I always felt like an outcast, but you chose me as a friend, and you got me through some tough times. I love and miss you, and look to the day that I will see you again.

Kip and Nancy,
September 11th came and went yesterday. As is my custom, I spent some time reflecting on both of you and how we enjoyed our friendship back in McLean. I decided to check in on Dean and Luke to see what they are doing via social media. They look great and appear to be the successful young men that you would expect. Donna and Dean appear to have put them in a position to thrive. We think of you often. Gone, but never forgotten.

Kip,
I think of you often. I had no idea of Nancy's condition. I loved your caring nature and your sense of duty. Miss you and wish you were here. Cannot believe it has been 15 years. You can be proud of your children. You have never left us. When I am @ Arlington, I always visit, just checking in, like I did @ PERSCOM.

I never met Kip or Nancy, but I was a Berlin Brat before the Taylor family moved to Berlin. Despite the inevitable heartaches that come from their deaths, I'm proud of them both. This evening I reviewed all the prior posts in their honor and have concluded they both lived exemplary lives. I believe they are reunited in heaven, and that their sons may join them if they also live such faithful lives. God be with the boys and other extended family members. Kip's and Nancy's memories will be with us a long long time.

I did not know Kip Taylor, personally. In the months after 9/11/2001, I was among a group of women, working with Creative Memories, that made photo albums for the families of each of the victims at the Pentagon on 9/11 and Major Kip Taylor's family (the rank I was given, but later learned he had posthumously been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel) was the family I was given to make an album for. (I'm attaching a photo of 1 of the pages. Pretty crude by today's standards, but it was made with much love & respect, I promise you.)
I think of him & his family often, but especially every year on 9/11.
If I ever make it back to Arlington, I will be sure to put flowers @ Kip & Nancy's headstone!
My thoughts & prayers continue to be with their boys, Dean Ross & John Luke Taylor. Their father will always be part of my memories.

Kip and Nancy,
Karen and I spoke of you two last evening. We are now empty nesters with both of our sons off at college. They still recall our neighborhood in McLean and how you all were so involved and fun. I hope Dean and Luke are doing well. I am sure Dean and Donna have their hands full with boys at their ages. Those are fun days and we miss all of the games and practices that you guys would have enjoyed. Know that you are missed and that your impact on those fortunate enough to have known you is everlasting. Always in our hearts and in our prayers . . .

Kip & I arrived at Delta almost at the same time - we were both "newbies" to this unit and I worked for him - we had to learn it together - what a lovely man - I have never forgotten how excited he was to have had a very special ring made for Nancy - when he was going to propose. Several of us saw it before Nancy and said "Great" - Nancy was a special lady - and they were such a special couple - I think of them often - I know they are missed so much by so many.

Taylor Family,
It's nearly been ten years but we haven't forgotten. It's so important that you all know that Kip is never forgotten, ever. I think of Kip in the most random moments of my life, flying back to being a little girl in Indianapolis, IN. I have such big memories of Kip even though I was so young, and at 31 years told, they still live on within me.
Boys, I will tell my kids about your dad one day and Dean, I will tell them about your brother. From my childhood memories, he was that mountain of a man who was nothing but light and I promise to share the wonderful memories I have.

Dear Kip:
Last night, after we heard the news about bin Laden, John went to the Pentagon to sit on your bench and say a prayer. Nothing will ever make up for the loss of you and Nancy, but we hope that yesterday's event was the true beginning of the end of the evil in the world that led to 9/11. You & Nancy are always in our thoughts and prayers, as are your children.

I met you both briefly when you were very young, not long after your dad died. Your nanny would bring you to Redeemer Lutheran Church to play two mornings a week. Our first day of the open gym was that terrible day your dad died. I learned later that your mom was also dying.
Although I left Washington DC within a year of the attacks, you both have always been near to my mind. I will always keep you in my thoughts and prayers, especially on this terrible, terrible day. God bless You

Dean and Luke,
While going onto the web to revisit your father's Arlington National Cemetery web link, I came across this guest book!
I was stationed in Rock Island, IL that fateful day. We all waited for what seemed like eternity, holding on to hope...waiting for word that everyone was okay. Word came of your father's passing. We were all deeply saddened.
You don't know me but I had the honor of serving with your father at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Kip was aide-de-camp to Major General Ronald Brooks, and I was Secretary General Staff. Between the two of us, we kept the General's daily agenda moving...often running into some strange events along the way!
Like this one time...It was the Christmas season and Kip and I were supposed to be serving large (as big as your index finger and thumb) shrimp to house guests during General Brooks' Christmas Reception (back in the day when you could still call it a Christmas reception). We ate more shrimp than we passed out to guests. I think between the two of us, we finished off 8-10 lbs of shrimp! Anyway, we were found out, and well, we looked like two kids whose hands were caught in the cookie jar. We had the "who me" look of five-year olds. I think Kip was in pain...I know I was...my stomach hurt until lunch the next day!
You may have not heard but your father was two-time below the zone selectee for promotion, a very notable feat; attempted by many but accomplished by only the top notch officers. He was in the top 5 percent of all officers in his year group. Even more exemplary was the fact that he was the "single selection" over ALL Majors in then U.S. Army for appointment as aide-de-camp for Lieutenant General Timothy Maude, one of the many other brave Soldiers who died at their post that fateful day.
While at Fort Harrison, Kip used to come down to my office when he needed to decompress from the day's challenges. We talked about sports, fishing (I was a better fisherman), food (of course), whose golf game was better, and marriage. Kip expressed to me on some many occasions how the thing he wanted MOST was a great marriage and children. That was the summer of 1992. I ran into you father in Charleston, SC a decade later. He was so happy, he and Nancy had found each other, and Dean you had been born. He was brimming with stories about being a dad, and how he looked forward to getting home at the end of the day, and that he wanted to have more children.
My heart sank to later learn of your mom's passing.
I do know this, whereas I had never the pleasure to meet your mom, I did know your father.
My life is better for having the privilege to work with and get to know your dad. My now greater sense of humility and the success I experienced as an officer, and as even as a leader today, are due in part to Kip's influence on me. Your father modeled servitude, humility, and incredible drive. There wasn't anything your father didn't think he could do. He was a real life example of what Dr. Sues meant in "Oh, the Places You'll Go" where it reads: "...Kid, you'll move mountains!". :)
We all love and miss your mom and dad.
I vow to you, Dean and Luke, that I will tell my children and grandchildren, co-workers and friends about your Kip Taylor.
God cast a special mold for men like your father, and that mold has not been often used.
Your dad was and continues to be a very special father, husband and friend.
May God's blessing be with you. I know your mom and dad are looking down upon each day, and they have the biggest smile on their face! :)
Kip Taylor is the embodiment of the very good about being a real man and Warrior in this great country!

I worked at Ft. Harrison, IN as a photographer when I met Kip. He was an AWESOME guy! He used to pretend he was running me off the road while I was out jogging.
I lived in UT when the US's worst day fell upon us, 9/11. I remember thinking, thank God Kip has aready done his tour at the Pentagon.
My friend Steve called me a few days later to inform me that Kip was in the outer ring.
I recently moved back to Indy and found all of my photo's from Ft. Ben. The first one I saw was one of Kip I had taken at one of the Ceremonies & his DA Photo. Then I found many more I had taken. I will always hold a special place in my heart for you Kip.

My Son is 13 and his name is Kip Taylor. When this happened I saw it on the news. I was sadend. At the time of this tragety I told my son that he had an angel named Kip Taylor that died in the Pentagon, that was watching over him. Since then he is striving to be a future military man. He does so well in school so he will have a better chance of getting ranked higher in the military. This is what Kip Taylor has done for my Kip Taylor.

My connection with the this family came in the way of infertility. I was one of the recipients of a housing grant so that I could undergo IVF at Walter Reed, the same place Nancy received her treatment and thier boys were concieved through. My cycle was not successful, but because of thier generosity, I was able to undergo a treatment that I would not of been able to. I thoughts go to your families, I think of you frequently.
I have since then had twins and that treatment process was a stepping stone to seeking alternative medical care, so in theory I have Nancy, Kip and thier two beatiful boys to thank for that.

Dean and Donna I would first like to say we have not forgotten and will never forget your brother and the pain you live through losing a brother on 911. God watch over his children when you both took them and are raising his children. I know your brother and his wife are glad that you are doing that for them since they are in heaven watching over you and their boys. What an honor to be taking care of angels. I want to do something for the boys I want to make them a quilt to honor their dad and mom. Please take the time to check out my website www.freedomquilts.net and click under the soldiers link and see how we design and make quilts to honor our fallen. This would be a total honor for me to design and make a quilt to honor your brother for his children. The quilts are free and will be made with honor and respect please email me at [email protected] so we can design and make a quilt to honor Kip. I have not forgotten. My life change on 911 I now spend my time making quilts and giving them away to families that mourn the loss of a love ones. I started with 911 families, Katrina families and fallen soldiers families. This will be an honor and I would make the quilt with as much respect and honor because it would mean alot to me to know when I get it done and send it to you that you will feel the love and comfort we hope we have put into it. Let us know if you wish to have one made we can make it very simple or very personalize just let us know and we will do. My website is www.freedomquilts.net again we will never forget the day we were all devasted nor will we ever forget the famlies that have to live with the pain of lossing a love one. God be with you and your family.

To the family of Kip Taylor I know the anniversary of his death will be tomorrow and I wanted you to know that we have not forgotten. In fact when I looked in my database I notice that his family never received a quilt to honor Kip and his wife His two sons Luke and Dean should receive a quilt. I would be honor to make a quilt if you wish to honor their parents. It could be a very personalize one if you wish just contact me at [email protected] the quilt will be made to honor them and it is free for the boys to have. Please know we still have not forgotten and will never forget. If you allow us to honor your family we would do it with honor and respect to Kip and his children. You are welcome to check out our website www.freedomquilts.net and see some of our work especial the soldiers link or you can visit with some of the families that have received quilts. It is our way of honoring all those that died that day. A way of saying we will never forget.

I always remember Kip and his Dad, LTC Don Taylor. I was in ROTC with Kip at Northern Michigan and got my lieutenant's commision with him on May 4th 1985. We had a lot of classes together and enjoyed our times training with the late Capt Jack Chiapuzio.
He was a great officer and I am saddened by his loss.

After all this time, never forgotten. Always the Quiet Professional. May your sons come to realize the husband, father and patriot you truly were.

Little Dean and Luke, I met your dad and uncle Dean in 1978 or 1977 at a high school basketball tournament in Germany. I could hang with your uncle but your dad was much better than I. His Heidelberg team crushed my Berlin team easily. A year later your dad and his family moved to Berlin. I remember the day your dad walked into gym class. I recognized him immediately and was simultaneously glad for our basketball team and sad to realize my starting center position had just walked out. As I got to know your dad a little better I found he was not just a good basketball player but a really nice guy. I'm so sorry you guys lost your dad so soon. I am proud to have known your dad and to have had the privilege of calling him team mate.
Big Dean,
I am so very sorry. I don't know what else to say.

My heart is saddened. God's peace continue to be your strength and source of comfort. LTC Taylor (CPT Taylor when I new him at AGOBC Ft. Harrison in 1990 was a dynamic support and inspiration. I too think first of his commitment to "Do good and shun evil". This is the first time entering this website - Veteran's Day 2006. I honor a great officer, gentle man and man of God.

I would like to come back on this 5th anniversary and tell you that I still remember Kip. He was my company commander, my mentor, and later my friend. I wrote a tribute to Kip today and posted it my military weblog.
One is never truly dead until one is forgotten, and I know Kip will never be forgotten. Nor will Nancy.
My deepest regard to Kip and Nancy's sons, Dean and Luke. And my sincerest respect to the rest of your family.

Dear LTC and Mrs. Taylor (Dean and Donna):
My name is Timothy Mallard. I am an Army Chaplain, and performed the funeral for your brother, LTC Kip Taylor, five years ago at Arlington National Cemetary, along with our then Chief of Chaplains, Chaplain (Major General) Gaylord T. Gunhus. I know that Nancy, too, passed away of her cancer on November 18, 2003, and that you all assumed responsibility for raising Dean and Luke, their boys.
On this fifth anniversary of the attacks that took Kip from you, and would begin Nancy on her road toward battling cancer, I wanted to write and say two things. First, the act of performing your brother's funeral, heart-wrending as it was, was the most deeply moving and humbling experience I've had in 20 years of ordained ministry. Before or since, I have never experienced an honor of serving Soldiers and families greater than that difficult day of assisting in LTC Taylor's funeral. Second, though I left soon for service in Iraq and then subsequent assignments overseas, I never stopped praying for Nancy, the boys, and now you all. I have asked and will continue to ask God to richly bless you all as you raise Dean and Luke, and to guide the boys as they grow into manhood in the image of their father and mother. I hope this anniversary, painful as it is, reminds you all of the living hope God provides us toward the future (Romans 5:1-5), and that Dean and Luke are ever-present reminders of this hope.
God bless you on this day and in each and every year to come.
Grace and peace,
CH (MAJ) Timothy S. Mallard

I have wanted to post a message in rememberance of Kip for 5 years now. I just never know what to say.
...I met Kip when I was ten years old. He and my dad worked together @ Ft. Harrison and I always had fantastic memories of him. My dad and he stayed friends throughout the years and when I read the list in the Washington Post of the Pentagon victims, my heart dropped because I knew my dad didn't know yet. I knew Kip's loss would be a great one, and that was because we all had nothing but great memories of what a great guy he was.
It has to say something when a girl who met someone at the age of ten has everlasting memories of him, even when she's almost 27 now.
Every year, I remember Kip, I remember his families loss, and I remember his children.
...And I smile, remembering the great stories I have heard, and the smile that always crosses my dad's face when he talks about his memories of him.
RIP Kip...

I attended ROTC at NMU from 1980-1984. COL Taylor, Kips dad was our leader. He was a wonderful person, who lead my down my path of becoming who I am today. I knew Kip through his father. I was working on Capitol Hill on 9/11. Each day as I drive to and from work I always think of Kip and his family.

Kip and Nancy:
I am spending a rainy day at home with my son, James, age 9. James loved coming to your house when we were neighbors. Mr. Kip was a gentle giant who loved to play with James and his brother, Matt. We often speak about you two to the boys, especially when the subject of terrorism comes up. We also talk about you when the subject of family commitment is raised. Unfortunately, terrorism is such a daily subject, we use your suffering as our constant reminder why we must fight terrorism. Both of you were positive role models while with us and your legacy is that same good natured, fun-loving, family focused couple everyone enjoyed. Neither of you are forgotten.
The boys (Dean and Luke) are in our prayers as are Dean and Donna, who are doing a wonderful job I am sure.
Rest in peace.
