For reasons only God knows, I was thinking about LCDR David Williams this Memorial Day weekend. I had the pleasure and privilege of working alongside this intelligent, motivating officer during a brief time together in Amphibious Group TWO. God Speed. I look forward to a time when we can laugh and tell golf stories again. You would have been an awesome XO and CO. Your mentor, friend and golf student - CDR, USN (ret) Mark Erikson
Beautiful tribute to this hero to commemorate the day of his birth

Dave, I have good memories of our cross country and track days back in South Lakes High School. Despite a life cut short far too early, I am comforted that you had success at VMI, you had a fine family, and served our country as an officer in our Navy. My heart sunk on 9/11/01 when I heard your name mentioned during a TV interview at the Pentagon, and despite not having seen you since our 1987 graduation, I instantly knew it was you when I heard the name David L. Williams. Last year, I missed seeing you at our 20th high school reunion, but we know what you did for America. Thank you, Dave.
You're part of the reason I'm running again after a 15-year lapse; and in the final 2-miles-to-go mark in the Marine Corps Marathon, when I run past your grave at the ANC, you can be assured that I'm thinking of you, buddy. Even with you gone, it still feels like you are cheering us on for a good finish. I hope that Providence grants a good life to all of your family, and I am glad to have been your friend so many years ago.

I didnt know David or anyone else that died that day. He and I shared the same name and because of that I felt compelled to add a note. Godspeed David Williams from another David Williams that will think of you from now on whenever that dark day is mentioned.

I didn't know David at all but the day of the one year remembrence of the 9/11 attacks our city (EL Paso) made a memorial for all of the victims. We would get a ribbion with one of the victims name and ring a bell in their memory. I recived Davids ribbion and rang that bell proud for him. I wore that ribbion with pride all day long to pay my respect to our hero David.

We thank David for protecting our country as a member of the Navy. Such a dedication to others comes with a brave warm and caring heart. May his courage, life and love live on in all who love him. Our hearts cry with you in your loss of David. We are deeply sorry.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
