Dwayne, I last knew you as Sgt. Williams at the 3d Ranger Battalion where we served together. I was thinking about you today. I will never forget you in my lifetime. You were driven, and inspiring. I just wanted to stop by again and say God loves you, and I know one day I will see you in Heaven. I will salute you. You were a very great Ranger and great man. We all miss you and I still to this day think back to our days in the Ranger Battalion. I love you brother, and I will never forget the kind things you did to make me feel at ease once I arrived in PAC. Take care my friend, until we meet again.

It has been almost 23 years and a void remains in my heart from the tragic loss of my big brother, Army Maj. Dwayne Williams. I miss our weekly phone calls in which you gave me advice on marriage and raising children. I grew up living my dreams of being a hero by watching you excel on the basketball court, football field and watching you jump out of airplanes at airshows at Ft. Benning, Ga. that summer i stayed with you while working as a young journalist in Columbus, Ga. Rest in peace soldier- Job well done. Never forgotten and forever in our hearts- Your brother Roy Williams in Birmingham, Ala.

Sgt. Williams, as I last knew you as we stood side by side at 3d Ranger BN. I´m thinking of you, My Brother in Arms, as on this fateful day 22 years ago you left us but not Sua Sponte. You were taken from us all way too soon. I still think of you and how you helped me out upon my arrival into the Ranger Battalion. You were so calm with all the chaos going on around us. I thank you a thousand times over for taking the extra ruck off my back during our 8 mile ruck run. I´ll never forget it. You sped off with rocket like speed. I appreciate your leadership and understanding and I´m sure you remember our college football conversations, as we both played and enjoyed talking about your experiences in Alabama, and mine in California. In my times of life, I have met many individuals but you were special. You were a great example of someone who was fair, honest and professional as a soldier. You also liked to laugh and had a great sense of humor. You accomplished so much and inspired a lot of people, and motivated us in our squad runs. It´s been over 34 years ago that we stood on common ground at Ft. Benning. God Bless YOU forever. You were one of a kind, you were My Brother in Arms. Rest in Peace my friend. I´m thinking of you.

Today you ran across my mind. I sat remembering when we took Tyler and Curtis to their wrestling match and we spent the entire time chatting it up in the bleachers. It was a great day. Not to mention as you prepared to take my job at SSI. As neighbors we bonded as two Army majors would.and many times after. I recall your coffee mug and that awful bacca. You are an American HERO. RIP. Til we meet again my dear brother.til we meet againno one but God knows. But God

Dwayne, or Sgt. Williams as I last knew you, I think about you every 9/11. I know you are in a better place and I´m sure that you are smiling as you look down upon us all. I just wanted to thank you again for how you were as a person, regardless of the harsh and extreme environments we were cast into in our Battalion life at the 3d Ranger Battalion. You never let the stress bother you, you never wavered. You just drove onward. I remember when you found out you were selected for OCS, and what that meant to you. Rank never changed you, you stayed steady. Last night I was looking online through the Ranger Hall of Fame Inductees. They were heroes and we both knew some of them as we had the pleasure to serve with them. YOU are a hero, and YOU should be in the Ranger Hall of Fame. You gave up everything you had, sacrificing your life, leaving everything thing behind. You left us way too soon. On this day I remember you and will never forget you for the remainder of my life. Your calm, cool, and collect persona wore off onto me. It saved me during my career after the military. I am retired now and will never forget the first time we met at the Battalion in 1987. Thank you and God Bless you my Brother, may you Rest In Peace.

Wednesday, September 11, 2019, marked the 18th year since Dwayne was killed in the service of his country. Dwayne was and still is a very important part of our lives here in Jacksonville, AL. I am Dwayne's cousin and grew up in our Eastwood Community with Dwayne. The last time that we spoke was by phone in the summer of 2001 just after he reported to the Pentagon. He had visited here with family and friends on his way to his Pentagon assignment. I missed seeing him when he stopped to visit my mother- which he never failed to do when he was home. During our phone call, Dwayne spoke of how he enjoyed seeing family and friends on his visit and that he looked forward to the next Williams Family reunion. Our phone call ended with a "bye cousin", talk to you later! I thank God for the man my cousin, Major Dwayne Williams became and then represented our family as he did in service to the country.

Major Williams, I knew him as Sergeant Williams, was a quiet leader who led by example. I was just telling someone about him the other day. I think of him often and wish I would have said more to him the last time I saw him before he left for OCS. He was one of only a handful of Black Rangers in the 3D Ranger Battalion when I arrived. He was my mentor Sergeant. He was a gifted individual both intellectually and physically. He was taken from us way too early just as CSM Edward P. Irby was after his murder in Alaska in 1997. Both these men changed my whole perception of Black men, as I had grown up alienated from the world in an all White neighborhood. I came to the South with an open mind as I had graduated from college twice after playing football. Dwayne Williams is forever imprinted in my mind as one of the fairest, kindest men, who led from his heart. He was an inspiration to me and taught me how to lead without bias. There are so many great things I could share about him here. He left me with feeling confident about myself due to his extreme self motivation and enthusiasm. If I would have been there that fateful day knowing what was about to happen, I would have given my life so that he would have been able to live on, because I know he would have done the same for me. Dwayne Williams was one of a kind. He changed my life and affected how I see people. It made me who I am as a Law Enforcement Officer today. I say that from my heart as I treat all people the same and reflect back on him as if he were with me. He was the best Sergeant I ever had, and I utilized his leadership skills he instilled in me as I led people during my life. God Bless you brother! I will never forget you as long as I live. You were a true Ranger who was like none other. Rangers Lead the Way!

My brother, my Ranger mentor. He came out of nowhere, and took the double stacked ruck off my back. He led the way. He went to Airborne School, to pick up my certificate, that I did not have a chance to get, because I was whisked away to RIP. We talked football, and I saw your championship ring. I last saw you as a Sgt., before you went to OCS. I just want to thank you for being real, a true leader to all whom you met. I am so sorry that you died a tragic death. You deserved to live on, to continue inspiring those you worked with and for. Melton, Cramton, Demons, Bailey, Lovings, Richards, Gillen, Thorp, Counterman, Mitchell, and myself, will never forget you. We were all at 3d Ranger Bn together as brothers. Rangers Lead the Way Sir! Another year and you are in waiting for the Lord to call His own. You will float to the skies and meet the Lord God, and your family will be there too. I will see you headed there too. Look for my wave, because I would love to see my friend one more time before we reach Heaven and there are not husbands, friends, etc. Just brothers and sisters in Christ. I cry for days during this time of year. I read what is going on in your name. I love the Golf tournament. You would have LOVED that. I donates money for scholarships to JSU. I'm a terrible golf player, so I think I will just give the money. I miss seeing you online. I'm retired now. Something I know you spoke about. Tammy would have loved that. I missed seeing her when she was visiting friends in my neighborhood. I pray I get to see her again. Stay with her, shadow and protect her and your children. They still need you. And, when they walk down the aisle someday to say their vows, I know you will be there too. See you again my friend

My oldest brother, time does go by and you are constantly in our prayers of peace. You are missed just like yesterday and hopes and prayers go out to the family and many friends who have supported us all through this time. The Bible teaches us that God yearns to bring back to life the dead who are preserved in his memory. (Job 14:14, 15) His Word, the Bible, gives us a wonderful hope, namely, the prospect of living in a paradise on earth and seeing the resurrection of our dead loved ones. I hope to one day soon, see you in paradise. Rev 21 speaks of a new heaven and a new earth; for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away. Verse 3 and 4 says “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” I look forward to that wonderful day. Thanks again for the friendship you have given me and my younger brothers, Roy and Troy.
Tammy, Shelby and Kelsie, we love you.
I love you and miss you...

I have been retired from the Army now for five years and received a B.S in Computer Information Systems.Roy and Troy are doing okay and will turn 43 in November. We do the best that we can to be there for Mom and Dad but without you, you know that it is not the same. all that we can do is remember the good times and remember how you lived your life. Five years later, my thoughts and prays still linger with Tammy and her family. I'm another piece of the "Legge Court Crew" that Willie Able spoke about in his entry. Dwayne and I were fellow instructors and neighbors when we were stationed at Fort Jackson, SC. I was able to attend his funeral at Arlington; however, to date, its still doesn't seem real. I've read all the other entries and they do personify the Soldier, Father, and Friend I knew. I know Dwayne is truly missed but God has bigger plans for him than we can ever imagine. Tammy--best wishes to you and yours on this and every enduring day. I can only strive to be held in such high stature as Dwayne continues to be held.

To the family of Major Williams,
I first met Major Williams when he became my Commander at Ft Jackson. He was by far my best Commander. I was an instructor at the school and he was always caring and concerned about his Soldiers whether they were cadre or students. I remembered how he would come to my classroom and ask about students who were having a difficult time with the course and what could be done to help them suceed. I also remember seeing and greeting his lovely family at Daniel Circle. He always talked about his family and how much he loved them. His other love was his green mustang which I used to see him driving around Ft Jackson. I also had the opportunity to work with Major Williams when we both moved to building 1000. I remember the last time I saw and spoke with Major Williams which was in November 1999. I was leaving Ft Jackson to join my husband at Ft Bragg and he yelled at my from across the street to see if I had my award. He was just that type of person who would do his all for you and that is why I chose him to do my final re-enlistment. I was so saddened to hear of his departure but my heart rejoices to know that he is in his eternal home and watching over the ones he left behind. Major Williams's death has made it personal for me and I will never forget him or the family he left behind. I proudly display my last re-up picture of Major Williams in my home. To the family of Major Williams, may God continue to bless you and I will always remember you in my heart.

MAJ Williams
You knew me at CPT McGinnis when I was one of your Advance Course students. Now I'm a Major. But I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. Remember when we were out in the field and you all simulated a gas attack. I started running first instead of putting on my gas mask. My eyes burned so bad, so I closed them. But, I forgot to stop running and put my mask on. So I ended up being clothes lined by a wire supporting a telephone pole. I ended up straight on my back. I was praying no one saw me. But during our after action report of the simulation. YOU BROUGHT IT UP! I was so embarrassed...it was so funny. You just kept looking at me laughing and shaking your head from side to side. You also told me that Tammy, your wonderful wife, would watch my kids on a day we had to be in class and my boys were out of school. I said, "Don't you want to ask her first". You told me no it's alright. And sure enough my boys had a great time with Kelsie and Tyler. Thank you so much. I miss seeing you on AOL and telling you where I am and what's going on. Rest in peace my dear friend.

I was remembering 911 and thought about my friend Kim and the song my brother that he wrote in memory of Maj. Williams. Then I decided to grab my CD and play the song as a tribute to a fallen but not forgotten soldier/brother/husband/father.

Major Dwayne Williams was my executive officer in Cairo, Egypt. He was an outstanding officer, devoted family man, and humble Christian who had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It was an honor to serve with him. We know he is in a better place, but our prayers go with Tammy and his family who bravely walk through life without him. May God bless you Tammy!

I’ve had the pleasure of working as Maj. Williams' Battalion Legal NCO at Fort Jackson, SC. Through our close work together we developed a great friendship. He was a great mentor. I will never forget the day that I heard that my friend was inside of the Pentagon on September 11th. I will always cherish our working relationship, our fellowship at the Chapel and our mutual respect for one another. Tammy, I will always appreciate the kind words and the little jokes we used to share at the PX after church on Sunday. Kelsie, I have read your many postings and you have developed into such a wonderful and insightful young lady. I’m very proud of you. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers. If ever you need me, I’m only a phone call or e-mail way. God bless.

It is 9-11-2004 and the war against terrorism is still going on. I pray that Osama bin Laden will be caught and that no more people will die in Iraq and Afganistan. It is also my prayer that the victims of 9-11-2004 are finding comfort with the LORD. GOD bless America and her Allies in their fight against gobal terrorism. To my best friend and brother Kim, stay strong. I will stay in touch.

I first became aware of this website when it was brought to my attention that a soldier bearing my name was among the dead at the Pentagon after the September 11, 2001 attacks. Sure enough there was Major Dwayne Williams.
By all accounts Major Williams was a fine officer who did his duty as a professional. I am truly sorry that this fine man met such a horrible tragic end. I know he is with God in heaven. I know his soul will rest in peace.

I didn't know Dwayne Williams. I don't have to. I know at least four of the people in this guest book, and I know from them, and from the testimony of their character, what a great man Dwayne certainly was.
I didn't work with or serve at the same installation with Dwayne, but I've served with and been stationed with hundreds of thousands on men and women just like him, who love their families, their God, their country, and those with whom they serve. We've traipsed the hills of Kosovo, Bosnia, the sands of the middle east, and the streets of Baghdad. Each time learning to trust and treasure each other. Soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines capable of halting an enemy's aggression in one moment, and caring compassionately for the wounds they'd just inflicted in the next.
These patriots all know the risks they accepted when raising their right hand and swearing to defend America against "all enemies, foreign and domestic", just as Dwayne surely did. Yet they, and he, did it anyway; and continue to do it every day.
I didn't know Dwayne, and its my loss. Because I do know thousands of men and women like him, and it is a privilege most never get to experience.
What we rarely get to express is the great debt of thanks we feel and owe to you his wife, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, Mom and Dad for sharing your precious time with them with us, for preparing them so well for life, and honoring them with your continued love.
Thank you

I was just thinking of you today, Big Brother. Tomorrow,March 19th, you would be turning 43 years old.
We miss you and think of you often and want you to know that we are living our lives to the best of our ability. Mom and Dad, Troy and Roy and I keep in touch often and we all continue to pray for Tammy and the kids. You would be proud of them all. I retired from the Army on September 30th,2002 with twenty years. It's not the same without you but know this, that we cherish the time that we shared with you and look forward to seeing you in the resurrection. Jesus promises mankind such a great gift by the blood that he shed for us. We just have to continue to stick to the path, the narrow road and we will succeed. The example has been set for us. Until next time.

On this two year anniversary, we are reminded once again of the tragedy that our nation and so many families went through on that terrible day. Just a note to say that we will never forget Maj. Dwayne Williams and all the victims. I only met him once, but I can honestly say that he made a positive impression on me and that I always remembered who he was. He was a special person and is missed dearly.

Just wanted to let Dwayne's family know that he is not forgotten as we approach the second year since his premature departure. In April'03 there was an award ceremony for participation in Operation Enduring Freedom here at the Command and Control Warrior School. Gen Habedank and Col Hope Jones provided the website and I asked Tami if it was OK to pay tribute to Dwayne during the ceremony. She said, yes. I am extremely honored to have done so. In remembrance on this day.

Yesterday, March 19th, would have been my brother’s 42nd Birthday. He was born around 0500 in the morning and I talked to my mother just reminiscing on his life and the past year and a half without him. We think so much about his life and about his family, his wife and children, Tyler and Kelsie.
I am thankful for seeing him through their eyes and actions and in knowing that he was blessed to have such a warm and caring family. With each coming day brings new anxieties of life but the greatest gift of all is the wonderful hope of the resurrection through Jesus Christ.
Time won’t heal all wounds but it will allow us as a family to cope with Dwayne’s loss and renew our faith as Christians and live our lives in a way-befitting honor to his name and the life that he shared with so many.
So, to all who have continued to support our family, I thank you. To all who continue to pray for us and show love and support to Tammy and the kids, I thank you.
The Hebrew word in the bible, Agape’ means love. So I send my love to all who continue to support this site.

Dwayne was my executive officer and trusted friend. We served together in Cairo, Egypt -- and it was an honor for me to serve with him. He was loyal to America, to those that served with him, and to me personally. One memory of Dwayne was a TDY to Adwa, Ethiopia. We were sent to represent America as they celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Adwa (which was them was like the 4th of July is to us). The reason we were sent was -- Ethiopia decided to celebrate the 100th anniversary at the actual battle site rather than at their capital city with the Hilton hotel, etc. Nobody from the Pentagon or CENTCOM wanted to go to Adwa (smile) so they sent us. Dwayne and I were in the middle of nowhere! We never knew what was coming next -- what we would eat or drink that was safe -- or how in the world we were going to get back out of there. Dwayne and I enjoyed each moment -- and for me, it was the best TDY I was ever on. Dwayne's positive attitude and strong Christian faith allowed us to enjoy the unknown and laugh together as we experienced the unexpected. What an honor it was to be alone with Dwayne under these circumstances! Dwayne smiled as he proudly served Ameria and walked with God. Yes, Dwayne knew Jesus Christ as his personal saviour -- and he did walk with God -- and he still does. Ken Habedank, Major General (retired), USAF.

well I am here once again and more and more people are coming and showing love and reminiscing about my father. It's a really good feeling to know that people really do care and that they are here for me and my family and aren't just saying that. My father was funny, a good christian man, loving, caring, kind, the list just goes on and on there is so much that not only me but anybody else could say about my father....i miss him very dearly and no one will ever take his place. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that he is in a better place and that he doesn't have to worry about anything. Well, I love you all very much and I hope to see some of you soon...

Dwayne and I worked together at HQDA G1 and at Fort Jackson. I commanded 1-61 Infantry and worked with Dwayne when he was doing such a great job as the 369th AG BN XO. I also lived up the street from the William's family on Fort Jackson. I will always remember Dwayne for his positive cheerful attitude and wonderful smile. He was a great guy and it was a joy to be around him. We miss him and will pray for him and your family...God Bless Williams family.

Dear Williams Family,
We are very sorry for your loss. We were blessed with knowing Dwayne while he was stationed for a short time in Stuttgart, Germany. He attended church with us and spent time with us to pass the time while he was away from his family. We remember him telling us about his family and you could feel the love, warmth, and pride he had for you guys. Our families have a lot in common and although I've never met you and your family, I've felt like I know you through him. You all have been in our thoughts and prayers. Our family will always remember him from a video that my oldest daughter taped one day while he was visiting us. He was the type of person that had a special calmness and peace about him. Our family members who live in Alabama have been sending us the news clippings written by Dwayne's brother, Roy. I am not that great with words but in the articles Roy has written he has captured the essence of Dwayne's personality. My husband, Willie, is still in the military and this will be a challenging year for myself and the girls with all that's going on in the world. I know Willie respected and thought highly of Dwayne. When we think of September 11th, we think of what a special person Dwayne was and how he touched our lives. We are sad that he had to leave this life so soon but rejoice in knowing that the Lord will be taking care of him. Again, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely,
Stacy Williams

To the Williams' Family,
I had the opportunity to serve with MAJ Williams at Fort Jackson, SC with the 369th AG Battalion. Our relationship became even closer when he came out to play with the post softball team. MAJ Williams always showed that he was a man of God, with one sweet spirit. He always looked you directly in the eyes to show you the "light" of Christ in him. MAJ Williams was always real, he told it like it was, not what he felt you wanted to hear. I will always remember his "home run" trot around those bases and when he missed hitting one out of the park, he would always tell me, "P (that's what he called me on the softball field) I just missed that one, I took my eye off of it to quick". When I left Fort Jackson, I was blessed again to see MAJ Williams' in Baumholder, Germany when he came there for a softball tournament while he was in Stuttgart on temporary duty. If I can put it this way, "he showed off", I can't remember how many home runs he hit, but he was on a roll. I thank God just for the opportunity of knowing such a good christian man. May God continue to bless you all and fill your hearts with joy. MAJ Williams' is a blessing to all that he has come in contact with.

To the Williams Family:
Dwayne replaced me in his job at the Pentagon and I was his sponsor. I helped him inprocess and remember how happy he was when he received his Pentagon badge. He had an incredible smile and a great attitude. He constantly spoke of his wife and children. We even discussed how his son would do in wrestling at his new school. Two weeks prior to Sept 11th, Dwayne dropped by my house to show me his classic mustang. He told me his son would be driving it very soon and it would be passed on to his grandson. What a blessing to have come in contact with such a God fearing man.
JOHN 14:1-3
Let not your heart be troubled: Ye believe in God, Believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
