The 48-Hour-a-Day Man
William Minardi lived 48-hour days. "He never sat still," said Stephanie Minardi, his wife. "He didn't want to miss anything."

And he did not. Mr. Minardi, 46, of Bedford, N.Y., got up at 4:30 a.m. every morning and worked out; traded derivatives for Cantor Fitzgerald; kept up with friends ‹ dozens of them ‹ from Wall Street, college and high school; played golf with clients on weekends; coached the basketball team of his 12-year-old son, William Jr.; and followed the Louisville Cardinals, the basketball team of the University of Louisville, coached by his best friend and brother-in-law, Rick Pitino.

He followed them to Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, California, Utah. Mr. Minardi and Mr. Pitino had been best friends since high school. And Mr. Pitino used to tease his wife, Joanne Pitino, Mr. Minardi's sister, that he married her "only to be close to Billy," Mrs. Minardi said.

What I came to know and what was truly more impressive/important was the way he treated people. I would have thought that I was not t...
