Manuel Patrocino Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 19, 2001.
The Things He Built
He was extremely adept with his hands. And he approached furnishings with a dose of imagination. Skilled at carpentry, Manuel Patrocino built a smart-looking console for the television and stereo. He made shelves to hold cassettes. The sofa? He took it apart and redid it three times. A neighbor needed chairs. No problem. He built them.

"If he saw something that he wanted, he would build it," said his niece, Martha Martinez. His most distinctive creation? He built a clock out of a CD, carefully installing a watch face in its center.

Mr. Patrocino, 33, was in charge of uniforms for Windows on the World, and lived in Manhattan with his wife, Sandra, and their two children, Keyla and Alex. He normally reported to work early, and would be home in the afternoon, when he would head to the kitchen to cook a meal before the children arrived from school.

On the weekends, he liked to play dominoes with his friends. "If you saw a view of the family, he was always the happy person," said Ms. Martinez. "He always had a joke for us. When he told a joke, people would drop on the floor laughing."

Hey Brother-In-Law,

Want to let you know, how much we still miss and love you. You would be so proud of your children if you were to seen how they've grown.

We will always carry you in our hearts.

As I cross-stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.

I first found out about this unique, young man at Stories.com when I read a poem there by his niece. I cried all the way through the poem. During the 1990s, I said goodbye to several aunts and uncles--and to one uncle the day after 9-11.

But they were all over sixty years old and died of illnesses--not a young person whose kids were still small dying as someone in the right place at the wrong time falling victim to a hate campaign.

Thanks to both the poem and this tribute, I'll think of a person instead of a statistic when I think of Manuel Patrocino.

Sounds like Manuel was a very talented man. May his talents, life and love live on through his children. We are very sorry for your loss of Manuel. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
