Edward, Ed, lived a house away from me on Cornish Ave. Lived with my mom and dad at the time. What a decent family. You always knew this was a family you could count on. Reading all the posts today breaks my heart. I hope his wife and daughter are safe and have healed enough to carry on. I will never forget.

Today I visited the 9/11 memorial for the first time, and I paid my respects to Ed Martinez. I met Ed through my aunt Rose, who lived across the street on Cornish Ave in Elmhurst. My husband, Evan and I were grateful for his help with my Aunt Rose, who was elderly, and at times looked forward to his handyman' skills with small repairs around her apt. We thank you, Ed, for your kindness and generosity.

In the first anniversary of 9/11, my high school gave us names of the people who perished during the attack, and I got Edward Martinez, we wore their names on our wrists the whole day, I just want to say to his family, that I'm really sorry this had to happen, and that from all my classmates and me we wished you the best.

Mr. Martinez-
Just letting you and your family knew that you are in my prayers. I never met you or anybody in your family, but I feel a special connection because we share the same last name. Que Dios este con toda su familia.
@)->----- In loving memory of all the Martinez's and every other life lost on that day.

I worked with Ed at Cantor for almost 2 years. He was the man who interviwed me for my position and showed me the ropes. He was an extraordinarily generous and wonderful man who always brightened my day. I loved to sit with him in his mess of an office, listening to his stories and teasing him regarding how long it had been since he had seen the actual top of his desk. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and loved ones on this anniversary. I love you Ed, and miss you much.

Today, September 11, 2002, I shall be singing in the bass section for the performance of Mozart's Requiem honoring those who died a year ago and those who live on after the loss of their loved ones. My wife, Lilo Peter, will be singing the alto solo part. Over a hundred singers have been working hard for four weeks, joined by the orchestra members in the last two. We care. I shall wear a white cardboard heart attached to a red, white, and blue ribbon, bearing the name of Edward J. Martinez. My thoughts will be with him and with you, who have shared in his life.

I have known Helen Martinez all my life. We grew up in Bay Ridge. I met Ed about 22 years ago. I remember going dancing with them and my late husband at Rosie O'Grady's. We danced at their wedding, which took place on my 17th anniversary, Sept.19. I have seen their daughter, Stephanie, grow into a lovely young woman.
Ed proved himself a hero once before at the World Trade Center. He will always be my hero and I will miss him. I wear a flag pin everyday in his memory. God bless.

I spoke to Ed several times every day when I worked for Spartan Electronics, a company he bought equipment from. I loved talking to him and he always had wonderful things to say and was always very funny. I always said that I was going in to see him when I was no longer working for the company, but as usual there was no time. I am so sorry I never called him again. I miss him every day.

The Martinez and the Shugrue families have lived on Cornish Avenue for over 50 years. Eddie was the "neighborhood repairman" who made house calls. He was always a shoulder to lean on.He took time for people.
He showed us how to live life. My sincerest sympathy and condolences to his wife, Helen, and daughter, Stephanie.

First let me say that Ed was a best friend. I grew up on Cornish Avenue in Elmhurst living across the street from him. Although, 3 years his junior we became good and fast friends. I looked up to him as a brother I never had and did not hesitate to go to him for advice and counsel. We were in the Navy at the same time but regrettably we did not serve together. He introduced me to the arts and skiing and once, on a whim, we went to Europe together for two weeks to hone our meager skiing skills. I am proud to say I’m a charter member of the Screwball ski and bike club.
I will never forget Ed, I will see him standing on his front porch in his T-shirt in the dead of winter, going to the local ice cream parlor for a goopy-gook, riding on the chair lift at Hunter Mountain but most of all just being the best friend a guy could ever have.
Party hearty in heaven Ed and save a beer for me.

Those of us who were privileged to have Ed as a friend know how much we have lost. He loved his family and his friends; to him, they were life itself. He was the most special man who touched the lives of many people in millions of ways. May he rest in peace.

I worked for Univac - Unisys for many years and always loved running into Ed there and at Cantor until '91 when I retired. Ask Ed a question and never doubt the accuracy of the answer. He was a wonderful man

I am so sorry for your loss of such a wonderful person. I worked with Ed on a daily basis and never have know a man so proud of his family. He talked often of his wife and how proud he was of his daughter when she went off to college. I will always remember Ed and the smile he put on everyones face. He will always be in my thoughts and prayers as will his family.

We thank Edward for the time he helped protect our country in the Navy. Such a dedication comes with a brave heart that cares deeply about our country and his fellow man that lives here. May Edward's courage, his life, love and spontaneous picnics live on in all who love him. We are very sorry for your loss of Edward. Our hearts cry with you.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I didn't know Ed personally, but I had heard so many good things about him. My son John E. Bulaga JR always spoke so proudly of him.
I proudly display a picture of Ed, Troy Nilsen and my son in my home. The picture was taken on May 2001 ontop of the World Trade Center 1. All of these gentlemen were proud to be Americans.
God Bless them all for contributing so much in their short life time to technology.

I am saddened by the immense loss of so many wonderful people of New York. Even today I still find myself becoming choked up and teary eyed for such an unexplainable loss. Just remember that you are not alone. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you. May God bless and take care of your family.
