Bryan Bennett Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 23, 2001.
He Filled the Time Available
Bryan C. Bennett could turn an opportunity into an adventure, and in his 25 years, he had too many of both to recount in detail. The highlights included working on a farm in Spain, teaching English to schoolchildren in Chile, visiting a remote village in Cuba, white-water rafting in Costa Rica, and backpacking in the Andes.

"He stretched the time. I don't know how he did it all," said his mother, Ondina Bennett. "Every moment was an opportunity to do something, learn something, help somebody."

Mr. Bennett, who worked in sales for eSpeed, had moved from Boston to New York about 18 months ago to spend more time with his family. As the youngest of three children and the only boy, he tried never to miss family gatherings and vacations. He was an avid tennis player who was introducing his four nephews and one niece to the sport, along with baseball and video games. In his free time, he took advantage of opportunities closer to home. Most recently, he signed up for piano lessons at the New School and organized an engagement party for two of his closest friends.

Bryan. 20 years has gone by and your name is still spoken, your memory remains here on earth along with all who perished with you. I know you've entered into eternity where you feel no pain, and cry no tears. May God grant your mother and sisters the same happiness here in earth. May they be comforted in knowing that you will be reunited, along with you dad, your grandparents, and all those that have gone before them. What happened that day is etched in the minds and hearts of all Americans. May we never forget your names!

Another year, another Thanksgiving dinner you will not be here on earth sharing with your family. I only remember you as a baby and a young boy. You were so loved by your grandparents. Bryan, I think of you soooooo much and of another man I knew from my childhood that died with you. I hope you hear my prayers and are resting in God's loving arms.

We just wanted to offer our condolences on your loss. Although many years late the impact of Bryan's name was felt when we visited the memorial this week. Our family walked up to the memorial for the first time & all the places we could have approached the site we walked right up to the Bennett name. As a Bennett family from Canada this hit us hard. We couldn't imagine your loss. Our thoughts, prayers & best wishes go out to you & your family these many years later. We hope your strength has remained & you are doing ok. We just wanted you to know there are people that will always remember Bryan.

All of the news about the opening of the museum/memorial today has had me thinking about Bryan and his family. It's impossible to believe that its been over a decade, and perhaps more impossible to believe that the passing of time has done so little to ease the pain of your loss. I look forward to visiting the museum though I still wish that we could visit you instead. O, L & L, you are in my prayers always.

I never met Bryan but came across his picture in 2001. We were around the same age and we both went to college in Boston, then moved back home to New York to be with our family and friends. I was touched seeing his photograph and he just stuck out in my mind for some reason all these years. There was something unique and special about him, almost like a gift. It was his bright, big smile. There seemed to be so much goodness and gentleness behind that smile. I am certain he will never be forgotten and will continue to touch the lives of those who knew him through his smile and good will.

Sept. 10,2008, who would of thought that on Sept. 11, 2001 the United States would of changed from the security we once had. Our hearts and prayers are with each family member, friend and emergency response that lost their loved ones, friends and family. Our hearts hurt for you as if they were our of our owe. We've learned so much about everyone that lost their lives from all the news and documentries. It's likes we knew them. We're praying that you have turn those sad and tragic times into happy memories, which I'm sure that you haven't, you're just asking like the rest of us....WHY !!! We admire the families you lost their love ones, the emergency crews who didn't think twice and Flight 93 passengers for adverting the plane from the Capitol or the White House. No words can express the sympathy or hearthache that each of you have gone throught and our heart ache just as much as yours. I lost my little siste at the age of 32 suddenly in a car crash, but that just a small example of what I know of the pain I know you going throught. We just pray that the lord wraps his arms around you and give you comform. Each and every person effected by this devasting act will be in our thoughts and prayers tomorrow....9-11. It's my birthday....and my wish for each of you is...Comfort, peace and love.

God Bless each of you. We will NEVER forget.

Dear Bennett Family-

For years, ever since I learned of Brian's death, I have wanted to tell you how sorry I am. I am so glad that I found this website.

I met Brian at BC. I was his RA during his freshman year. He was a tremendous person that the other kids liked a lot. I have fond memories of talking with him while I had to "make my rounds" about the dorm.

Please know that nearly four years later I think of him often and that you are always in my prayers.

We were looking through the Remembrance Memorial and saw three families with the same last name as ours. We have four sons, Michael, David, Johnpaul and Christopher. Our David recently enlisted into the United States Marines. One of his reasons for enlisting was the events of September 11, 2001. We want you to know that we will remember your son, Bryan Craig Bennett and your family in our prayers. I am sure that we are related somewhere back along the line of Bennett's, since your son looks so much like he could be a brother to our boys. God Bless You all and God Bless the United States of America.

To the Bennett Family,

I just learned about Bryan's passing this past weekend. My ties to Glen Ridge are very strong as I grew up there and graduated from GRHS a few years before Bryan. I did not know him but I knew his sister Lourdes. Glen Ridge is a small town where everybody knows the families that live there and even though I did not know Bryan personally, I was deeply touched by his death. My heart goes out to all of you. God Bless.

On the anniversary of September 11th, my school held a prayer service and each student received a name of one of the victims. I received Bryan's name. To Bryan's Family,

I was a classmate and a friend of Bryan's at ASL. I send all my thoughts and prayers to you on this day. I had last seen Bryan when he and I both visited Josh Drobynk at Bowdoin for a weekend, in the fall of 1997. He was just as I had remembered him from our days together in London- generous, happy and enthusiastic about life. May you find solace in the knowledge that he enriched each life he touched. I am grateful to have known him. Love and support, Richard
