Stewart Harris Obituary

Serious 'Kid at Heart'

Stewart D. Harris had a serious job on Wall Street — and a season pass to the Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park. Which, said his wife, Sheila, he used all the time. When the Batman ride first opened at the park, in Jackson, N.J., Mr. Harris left the house in Monmouth County early one morning, went on the ride "and came home happy as could be," Mrs. Harris said.

"He was truly a kid at heart," she added.

Mr. Harris, 52, the chief credit officer at Cantor Fitzgerald, was devoted to his family: he bought cards weeks in advance for every special occasion. He taught his wife to ski, and took her camping and rafting on the Delaware River. He would laugh when they saw cars with bumper stickers boasting about having climbed Mount Washington in New Hampshire.

"We did it — and not with the car," Mrs. Harris said.

Stewart D. Harris, 52, a good friend

Stewart Harris was proud that he had survived the bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, and he often wore a T-shirt proclaiming that fact.

His wife, Sheila Solomon Harris, was looking forward to getting him a second T-shirt after last Tuesday's terrorist attack. Mr. Harris, an executive with Cantor Fitzgerald, was at his desk on the 101st floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center when the first hijacked plane hit. He has been missing since.

On Sunday, the family, including Mr. Harris' two children, Craig and Elissa, will be holding a memorial service at the Marlboro Jewish Center in Marlboro.

"We want to celebrate the life of our beloved husband and father," said Sheila Harris, Mr. Harris' wife of 22 years.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Stewart D. Harris, 52, moved to Marlboro in 1983. He received a master's degree in finance from Long Island University and for the past 20 years was the chief credit officer for Cantor Fitzgerald.

Mr. Harris was a member of Temple Rodeph Torah in Marlboro and was an assistant coach for many years with the Marlboro recreation and travel soccer team. He also served in the National Guard in the early 1970s.

"He was a good friend to everyone," said neighbor Sandy Pollock. "He always had a smile on his face."

In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Harris' family includes his parents, R. Jay and Mildred Horowitz Harris of Monroe Township; and a brother, Lloyd Harris of East Meadow, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Marlboro Jewish Center's Chai Building on Topanemus Road in Marlboro.

Hi Sheila, thinking of you and your, now grown, children today, 9/11/2023; as we have every Anniversary of 911. Rob (my husband) and I use to ski with Stewart at the Norsemen's Club, Great Gorge South, in McAfee, NJ. We reminisce Stewart with his love of cars, cigars, skiing, the stock market discussions, and most of all how much he loved his family. I will always remember the times you were at the Norsemen's club with your stunning fur hat and always dressed beautifully. Your children were young and I do remember seeing them from time to time. We mostly skied with Helmut/Rosemary, Gerhard, Raimund/Helen, George/Diana, Mike/Phyllis, Kevin, and Lance/Nina. If any of those names ring a bell, I do hope that a smile is brought to your face...The 911 traveling memorial is in our town; Wantage, NJ since Friday 9/8/2023. Seeing Stewart's name and saying a prayer for all of you for continued strength made me realize I had to find you and share this note. Remembering Stewart and thinking of you and your family. Sincerely, Denise Lange

I worked with Stu at Cantor back in the early 1980's. He was an exceptionally nice and gracious person and he made working at Cantor more pleasant. So sorry . . .

One year after 9/11 a radio station here in San Diego paid tribute to those who were loss. They had a helicopter fly over and drop little business like cards with people's names on them. I picked up a card off the sidewalk and Stewart's name was on the card. I keep that card as my bookmark in my daily meditation book. I like to believe that he helps me during tough times. My heart and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I knew Stewart and his brother while growing up in Brooklyn. In later life, we occaisionally ran into each other while traveling home on the Path Train to our homes in New Jersey. He was a heck of a nice guy. Sorry for the loss!

Stuart, "Your table" was always ready at Au Mandirin. Although our firm's were competitors, you always had the time to share your vast knowledge and insight with me. You were always on the mark! You love your family deeply, and coaching soccer was the best! Your postive spirit is with me every day. I am forever grateful for all that you taught me.

Dear Stewart: We were "credit friends" since 1983, and it was always great to talk to you and have lunch with you. I always remember my visit to your offices in early July 2001. How lucky I felt to be the credit officer for Cantor on behalf of Credit Suisse First Boston. As always, you were so helpful and went out of your way to make sure all my questions were answered. I last sent a fax to you on August 28-and I still have it. I think of you every single day. I have framed your "Portrait of Grief" and it is on my desk-an eternal memory for me. I pray for your wife and children. I will miss you forever. Renee

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Dear Stewart,our first born son:

You had so much to live for--a beautiful family, and many happy occasions awaiting you and your wife,Sheila, and your two wonderful children. These terrorists have not only deprived you of many more years of living, but have broken the hearts of your wife and children--and us, your parents. We feel that a part of us is now a void, never to be filled. We don't understand how, or why, this has happened, and this is the pain that we have to live with. Stewart dear, wherever you are, may you always rest in peace. You will forever be in our hearts. All our love.
