It was hard to find a photograph of Donald W. Robertson Jr., 35, for the prayer card for his memorial Mass. A father of four, he was seen in all his pictures with a child climbing on him. The family had to crop him out of a family reunion shot to get a photo without a small arm or leg draped around him.
"His little girl, Madison, would only let Donnie put her pierced earrings in her ears," said one of his sisters, Kathy Cunningham. "That is the ultimate hands-on, gentle dad."
She remembers her mother making her take her brother, who was almost nine years younger, to church. "But she didn't know that we'd pull up, he'd run in, get the bulletin, come back out, and the car full of us would drive off to Friendly's," Ms. Cunningham recalled. "He was along for the ride in every way."
Although Mr. Robertson, a vice president of sales with eSpeed, who lived in Rumson, N.J., had a shamrock tattoo, he never made it to Ireland. His mother is taking ashes from ground zero to an ancient burial ground in Glendalough, County Wicklow, in a few weeks, his father said. On March 9, an Irish flag flew over the New Jersey governor's mansion in his honor.

I knew Donnie Robertson and his father Donald from the South Orange Sunday evening softball league during my time as an umpire. Two nicer guys you couldn't find -- great father and son duo. Always happy, smiling and lots of fun umpiring the Robertson games. Can't believe 20 years have gone by since that fateful day, a day I walked through that very Trade Center on my way to work at the Federal Reserve Bank of NY. My reflections are many and my heart goes out to the Robertson family.

Karen,I have not seen you or talked to in many years, but I have thought about you over the years. I actually went to high school with Donnie and Elizabeth. He was a good guy. John and I think of you often. I still carry the picture of our kids at the Devils v Rangers game in my wallet. We miss you so very much and there are times when I know you are definitely with us. Donnie. Our friendship started one day when we were 9 years old (in the field by Gigger's house) and blossomed into a lifetime friendship. From our days with the Leaders (#9 & #10) through SHP, to our many meetings in Giants Stadium parking lot before games. Your friendship (and humor) is something that I will always cherish. Thank you for being David's Guardian Angel while he was in Iraq. On his way home to the US he stopped in Ireland then JFK where he got to view ground zero.

We had a service on 9/11/02 to remember, we shall never forget.
Each employee was given the name of a person who lost their life in the 911 event, we were asked to pray for them and their loved ones.
I was given Donald's name.

Donny will always be remembered as a great friend and teammate. I was lucky enough to play with him on the ice and he was always the first guy to stand up for you when it got rough. Professionally, I was also able to see how hard Donny worked and how well respected he was by his peers. His infectious laugh and great attitude on life will be sorely missed.
