It's been 20 years since I began wearing your bracelet and praying for you. It is my honor and priviledge to teach my third grade students every year about the heroic sacrifices made by you and the other heroes of September 11th. May God always bless you and your family as we continue to pray for you and those others who made the ultimate sacrifice.

For many years I worked with and knew various people who knew Lindsey. Every year I would see the Christmas cards he would send out to mutual friends/colleagues. Always humorous. Every year he would have a big birthday party for Beauraguard his Basset hound. You were someone if you were invited to that. One day a friend of mine was speaking to him on the phone and passed the phone to me to say hello to him. I said "this is the legendary Lindsey Herkness"! He laughed. He couldn't have been nicer. On September 11th my apartment was across from the Armory. As people were posting photos of missing loved ones I saw a man with a basset hound. I walked over to him and saw him posting a picture of Lindsey. I asked him if the dog was Beaureguard. He said yes. He said Lindsey was his friend and was missing. I was saddened to know that this person I knew of through others over many years was gone. RIP Lindsey.

I am a student who is doing a assignment called "Project Rememberance" and wanted all friends and family to know that as I've been researching his life I'm truly moved by the story's I've heard. He seemed like an amazing person and wish I could have met him, so to all those who care for him I will always have a place for him in my heart. Again you all have my condolences and together we can keep his flame buring bright in history.

I skied with Lindsay in Vail back in the 80's and remember him well. I received his wonderful Christmas cards until Dec 2001. I thought I had dropped off his list but then saw his name on a WTC list. His actions that day do not surpise me. The world lost a very special person that day.

To the family of Lindsay Coates Herkness III. I had the honor of riding to Washington DC yesterday 9/11/13 with thousands of other motorcyclists. We were there to remember those lost and those that fight to this day to keep anything like that from happening again. We each were given a name tag of a person who had died that horrible day, and I wore Lindsay's. I just wanted you to know, he was being thought of.

I visited the 911 tribute center. I randomly bought a bracelet. They have them there to purchase in memory of those who died on 911 who still remain missing. I looked up his name and found this site and a few others. I just wanted you to know that a woman in Youngstown, Ohio is honoring him by wearing this bracelet. ITs wonderful to read all the amazing stories and what an amazing man he was.

I never knew Mr. Herkness. I can honestly say that I doubt our paths would have ever crossed. The ten year anniversary of the September 11 attacks is approaching and my son's high school, in Alabama, has planned a memorial to honor the victims. The students were each assigned a person to "remember." My son was assigned Lindsay Coates Herkness III. As a result of hours of research and reading the many thoughtful accounts of Mr. Herkness' love of life and indelible spirit, I feel what I can only describe as grief. I just wanted all of you who knew him, to know that he will be remembered and his life celebrated.

I'll never forget how I saw a full paage ad with you holding a tennis racquet in "Scientifican American." You looked so dashing that I called you up (your name was in the ad and I guessed you lived in NYC). To my surprise, you asked me out and we dated several times, with me holding back because I could instantly tell you were a "confirmed bachelor" and I wanted a husband some day.
But, the few times we went out, I was mesmerized by you...everything about you, your lifestyle, your energy, your world.
I knew your worked at Morgan Stanley and cried when I saw your face as one of the missing exactly 2 years ago.
May you rest in peace.

Lindsay had the resources to do whatever he pleased - and that was being at his desk every morning before 8 o'clock. He was the ultimate role model for the young employees, always doing the right thing for the client, regardless of commissions. He also had principals - when his own assistant was downsized, he threatened to quit on the spot if she was not reinstated immediately.

I had the pleasure of working for Lindsay at MSDW some years ago. I have thought often of him in the years since my employment and always smiled when I thought of his quick wit or confidence. I remember watching Lindsay glide around the office from broker to broker, talking and laughing and having a purpose. I respected him greatly. He was intelligent, worldly and kind. He was a good guy, a really good guy. He will be missed.

Lindsay was very much like a rare bird, his personality and presence so arresting and impossible to grasp. I have a permanment vision of him gliding purposefully down a corridor at 120 Broadway, one hand thrust in his pocket and his eyes full of intent and sparkle - like a hummingbird, with so many blooms to probe before the day's end. Not too long ago I sent him a cotton blossom grown on my farm in North Carolina. I like to think he kept the downy fruit in his tower perch -a link with the earth, to which he has now returned.

Lindsay Herkness is a friend from my past...many years ago when Morgan Stanley was Reynolds & Co., even before Reynolds Securities, when Jim Bach and Vona Hopkins ran the mutual fund department. These were great years when the 120 Broadway was the center of Reynolds universe and TF Staley, Stetch Gardiner and Keith Wellin were running the show
. Lindsay was a top level producer 1 of 2 in the 120 "Boardroom." He was always "up", always willing to share an idea, and always respected. While I had lost track of Lindsay, he was never forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, wherevever that may be. PEB

Although I did not know Lindsay, the NY Times article touched me because we shared a passion for basset hounds. I had earlier saw a friend of Linday's on tv with Beauregard. He is a very handsome basset and will miss Linday very much, as bassets are very loving and loyal to their humans. But they will see each other in heaven when the time is right for them to be together again.
