Forever in our hearts and memory
Patricia Madleen Haentzler
September 11, 2013
This is already twelve years now I was watching the towers fall on TV into thinking that it was only a nightmare and I would wake up. Twelve years I cultivate your memory, for fear of forgetting some.
Every stay in France, holiday or weekend, we spent together we stroll and you talked me about America, your dreams to be a writer, I learned English with you. And I remember the joy when you were coming to pick me up at school to spend time like an elder brother with his little sister.
You were more than just my cousin, you were my big brother. If you knew how much I regret that your life was so tragically taken away without that we could meet again.
I realize just how we let ourselves be overwhelmed by the daily care at that we give too much importance to forget the simple things like write a letter or send a little card to the person which hold me by the hand when I 'child was to show me the way, and to teach me paths of life.
Your death has left a fantastic wife in sorrow, which bears the same name as me, and Aunt Madeleine who never should have to live this nightmare at his age.
I am often talking about you to my little Theodora, the place you had during my childhood and inside my heart and it is with her today, that we light a candle for you.
From there where you are I know that you see us, that you may see all those who love you and to whom you ever miss as much.
Watch over us from up there, from Paradise, that you have more than earned.

My brother, Rich worked with Philip at Kidder Peabody. He said he was quite intelligent, and an expert on the poet, Wallace Stevens. My brother doesn't ever talk about that day, but shared this memory of Philip.

As I cross-stitched your name on the memorial that I am doing for all of the victims, I prayed for you and your family. Please know that your death was not in vain. We will always remember. God Bless.

I saw Philip Haentzler's name on the list of the deceased while watching today's September 11th memorial programs. It was a sad moment indeed as a web search confirmed my worst fears. I was a coworker of Phil's in his first job after his graduation from Haverford College in 1974. We were in the Social Security Administration's then recently created SSI program as claims representatives in the South Bronx. My wife Martha and I met up with him in Paris after he left to go to the Sorbonne a year later. We last saw him in 1978 at his parents' apartment in Woodside, Queens. We admired his ability and thoroughly enjoyed his dry, sardonic wit and view of the world. All of us who have looked on the horror of the events of September 11th yearn for a time when "death will be no more; neither will mourning, nor outcry, nor pain be any more. The former things hav[ing] passed away." (Rev. 21:4) We are on the threshold of that glorious time as rapidly unfolding world events clearly show! May Phil's family and loved ones be comforted by the resurrection hope that the Bible holds out to us, and may they one day see that hope realized in Phil's awakening from the sleep of death to never-ending life on a paradise earth. (John 5:28, 29; Psalm 37:8-11; 29.) [email protected]

Philip and I met a long time ago when he was at a downtown law firm. I saw him often on the ferry boat. May all his loved ones be strong and be in peace.

We are very sorry for your loss of Philip. May his loyalty, his life and love live on in those who love him. Our hearts cry with you in your loss of Philip.
America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
