I never met Mary Lou, but the city of Parkersburg West Virginia where she graduated high school keeps her legacy of the beautiful life alive that was lost that September day in 2001. I will never forget the beautiful soul who once walked this earth and who tragedy lost her life that September morning, her face and smile will always stick with me. I send my condolences to her friends and family who are still enduring and mourning the loss of her 23 years later.

Mary Lou, the more time passes the faster it seems to go. Taking a minute on this day to pay my respect to your family and let you know that you are still so greatly missed. You were such an amazing light that was taken from us far too soon. Please know that you will never be forgotten; forever in our memories and in our hearts.

I worked briefly with Mary Lou during a summer undergrad internship at KBW in 1998. By the end of the summer I was getting a bit homesick for N.C. and all things southern. Mary Lou was so kind and cheerful - she wore a sundress and a bow in her hair to work one day to bring a little UNC spirit into the office. She was such a positive cheerful person with a smile to brighten any day.

Mary Lou, so much time has passed and yet it still seems like just yesterday that you were taken from us. I wish I could hear your voice or see your smile again; I really do. Taking pause on this day of remembrance to let you know that you are greatly missed. I have this real feeling that you can hear me up there in heaven, so please know that although time helps us to heal and makes pain a little more manageable – you will never be forgotten.

I just cannot forget Mary Lou. In working with her I was struck (we all were) not just by how smart and talented she was professionally, but also how genuine and authentic she was, and just truly special. She always radiated positive energy, and you couldn't meet her and not feel better for it. She really was her "best self" in such a refreshing unself-conscious way. She continues to inspire me. She was and still is a true light.

Mary Lou, so much time has passed and so much has changed, yet my memories of you still remain. I sat quietly again today (as I find myself doing every year at this time), watching the many documentaries and news programs of that terrible day. My mind wonders and searchers for answers on so many things, as I feel an emptiness thinking about your wonderful smile. I’ll never forget you.

Mary Lou, I never met you but worked on the same block as the New York Armory in Manhattan. I witnessed the horrific moments of 11 September 2001. I dedicated a military career because of those events. Your picture, among thousands, were placed on the block I worked on, during the days and eventually months following that national tragedy. Your photo was close to the entrance to my office. I remember you particularly not only because of your infectious smile, but also our closeness in age, which impacted me profoundly. I joined the military because of 9/11 to defend our nation in response to those terrible acts. I didn't know you, but have never forgotten you. I am about to retire from military service, but wanted to finally acknowledge that you personally served as motivation during my time in Iraq. God bless you, your family, and those who still mourn you.

It is not just this time of year that I think of you and all that loved you, but I think about you and others that moved you often during these times. I was asked by someone what September 11 meant to me and your memories flowed over my mind. What an awful loss of such a tremendous light. But so glad for the light to have burned for as long as it did.
Never forget.

Today would have been your 45th birthday Mary Lou so I am pausing to remember your family in prayers and also give thanks for the light that you shone while you were here. The legacy you have left is one of kindness and those of us still here have an obligation to do likewise. As a fellow 1992 PHS classmate I often think about what we lost that fateful day. I can testify to the way Mary Lou treated everyone. So much has changed since then but the acts of respect and joyful living from many years ago are still resonating a bright light in the hearts and lives of the people Mary Lou has touched. I pray that everyone who remembers Mary Lou will continue to be such a light and be kind to one another.

Mary Lou. I never had the pleasure of meeting you but I knew your Father and some members of your family.
When watching the towers go down from the west coast viewing I did not know you were in one of them.
I was told a few days later. I then saw your missing poster on phone poles during tv coverage. I saw your poster in Oprah magazine. I see your name carved into a brick at the University of San Diego.
You are not forgotten .

Mary Lou, each year I am amazed at how quickly this day comes around. Time certainly does change its pace, as we get older. But, each year it feels like it was just yesterday that you were taken from us. Thru time, we see many things come and go in our lives; however, it's the meaningful blessings that we hold near and dear to our hearts. I still think of you so very often and wish that I could have had more time with the blessing of you. I still wonder what might have been. I miss you Mary Lou. If only

Mary Lou,
I never met you, but today 9-11-2018, I was looking at the names of all the people that lost their lives on 9-11-2001. I had asked God to send me the name of a person that lost their life that day, so that I could have a Memory Bracelet made in honor of that person. Your name stood out to me, and I just wanted you to know that once I receive the bracelet, I'll wear it in your memory, till the day I die. I'll keep your Family and Friends in my daily prayers, for peace and comfort. I'll Never Forget! Rest In Loving Peace Sweet Lady.

Mary Lou, it is surreal to sit here and think that it has been 15 years since the unforgettable day. The news, the documentaries, the stories that flood our senses at this time of year ensure that our country never forgets. However, for those of us that were blessed to have had you in our lives, our memory of you needs nothing to continue to shine on. What we keep in memory, is ours forever! Thinking of Mary Lou Hague on the 15th Anniversary of 9/11. I never knew you but saw your face on a missing poster in a 9/11 documentary. I am so very sorry you were taken from this world in such a terrible way. I pray for you and your Family and ask God to watch over you all. I know God will reunite you with your Family one day.

Been a couple of years since I wrote you. Last year, I attended a 9-11 memorial ceremony at the Naval War College, remembering graduates from there that died in the Pentagon and on the flights. Just before that, I attended my 20 year class reunion at PHS. It was the first time I've seen what the school has done in your name. I was impressed. Mary Lou, I can tell you with certainty the work I did while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011 has made us safer at home. Thousands of fingerprints I collected over there from terrorist bombs are now in databases designed to prevent those people from ever entering the United States. We are still working hard for you, all of the others lost, and for everyone else still left trying to make our country great. You are missed, and not forgotten.

I was in NYC Thanksgiving week and visited the memorial site. The emotions felt are unexplainable and I cannot fathom what you experienced that day. Many things on this side just do not make sense. We can only trust in the Lord with all our might and lean not upon our own understanding. Somehow, God will turn around this evil and make good so that lives lost that day will not have been in vain. Rest well in the Lord, Mary Lou and I look forward to meeting you one day.

Mary Lou was a few years younger than I when we served as acolytes together at church before I left for college and I remember the effect she had on young men, how they would volunteer to serve if they weren't scheduled or just want to become an acolyte after seeing her in her acolyte vestments!
As everyone who knew Mary Lou for even the briefest of moments will remember, she had a way of brightening your day with her smile and I can't seem to recall a single time when she wasn't smiling.
The day we lost her here on earth was, indeed, a tragic day of unspeakable loss. But, as we each remember her and her smile, the pain of loss is lessened and the world brightens. There is little doubt that Mary Lou became one of God's most loved angels ten years ago and her smile has been added to the radiance of Heaven's light and love shining down on us.
No, Mary Lou, we will never forget.

To the Hague Family,
I was researching on the web some information when I ran across Mary Lou’s picture and read the article. Her picture was too stunning and reminded me of someone I once new...the features where way too similar. After more in depth investigation I realized or at least I thought it may be the family I knew from a long time past (40 years ago) Liza and Eugene.
That day was such a horrible event that I am not sure anyone has yet or will ever be able to come up with the words that could ever describe it or the emptiness that it left in all of us ..... but more importantly the mother, father, brothers and sisters left to pick up the pieces of this tragedy.
I have no words that I could ever write that would truly describe my deepest sympathy for the family’s loss of Mary Lou. The posts are heart wrenching to read yet soothing of the love that everyone had for her.
Please pass on my deepest, although very late, sympathy for the loss of a very special and loved daughter and sister.

Although I have not forgotten, your smiling photo reminds me of your amazing beauty – both inside and out. I think of you so very often Mary Lou; I find myself wishing that I could have just one more talk with you or see you smile again. And, as the years go by and our past begins to fade, I still look back and get frustrated that I didn't take more time… Try a little harder… I just get tired of saying/hearing the same thing in my head, over and over ~ "If only…" It’s just hard without you here.
I miss you Mary Lou!
