Joanne Ahladiotis Obituary
Joanne Ahladiotis never did anything halfway. She dressed impeccably and had her nails done once a week. She entertained regularly, making all the food herself. She took great pride in her small apartment in Forest Hills, Queens. "At Christmas," said her sister, Effie Salloum, "she would decorate her apartment like it was Macy's windows."
Fluent in Greek, Ms. Ahladiotis, 27, traveled to Greece every two years to visit her grandmother, who lives in Crete, and returned home laden with gifts of icons, jewelry, books and cookies. In fact, Ms. Ahladiotis could scarcely go anywhere without buying presents for her family and friends. "If she was out shopping and she found something she liked but they didn't have it in her size, she would buy it for me," her sister said.
The week before she died, Ms. Ahladiotis, who worked for the eSpeed division of Cantor Fitzgerald, had to travel to Las Vegas on business. She invited her parents to accompany her. "It was the most beautiful week of my life," said her mother, Eleni. "She was a very loving person."

I’ll never forget the notices placed in the Greek Herald by Joanne’s loved ones following the attacks. Her photo was accompanied by a plea for anyone who had any information regarding her whereabouts. A few weeks later the notice changed. It was a now funeral notice may she Rest In Peace for all eternity..

Twenty years have gone by and the pain of that horrible day has not gone away. I worked with Joanne on the 103rd floor of Tower 1 and can still see her smiling face in my mind’s eye. I remember back to the last time I saw her in the cafeteria. Her smile will be with me forever.
Today is the twentieth anniversary of that horrible day that took her away. Rest in peace my friend.

While visiting the 9/11 Memorial my attention was drawn to the white rose inserted in the M of the name of Joanne Marie Ahladiotis. She would have been 47 on June 10th 2021 which would have been my parents 77th wedding anniversary. I will especially remember her on 9/11 going forward and listen carefully for her name as the names of those who lost their lives at the WTC are read during the 9/11 memorial services.

9/11/2013 my husband Wayne passed away from Melanoma. As I remember him on that day, I remember those who lost their lives that day and now especially Joanne and on June 10th when I remember my parents, I will remember Joanne on her birthday.

Joanne was an amazing woman. I can still see her smile. I received an email from her 7:30 the morning of Sept. 11th. I keep it in my memory box, along with our fun mini books we wrote as teenagers. We were planning to get together when I was going to NY for my cousins wedding. I didn't know she was in the attack until the next day. My heart crushes still when I found out. She was still talking of her recent travels and wedding planning. She had so much fun helping plan Cindi's wedding she wanted to do more. I miss her as she was such a ray of sunshine always.
