Nancy Mauro Obituary

A Radar for Sales

She concocted the gourmet spreads at home in Forest Hills, Queens ; he chopped the ingredients. She cultivated the flower garden in Dutchess County; he whacked the weeds. Compatibility was the essence of Don and Nancy Mauro's 18- year marriage. Mr. Mauro recalls falling in love with his future wife at first sight. Introduced by her sister one wintry Friday during happy hour at a Manhattan bar, they became an item in the course of an evening that ended with him walking her to the subway and kissing her good night — but not goodbye — beneath the twin towers.

Nancy Mauro, 51, studied fashion design and spent two years on Seventh Avenue, then switched to computer technology after realizing that she did not enjoy the clothing trade backbiting (though she never lost her radar for a good sample sale). Mr. and Mrs. Mauro both worked for Marsh & McLennan; he at Marsh Aviation in Midtown, where his office windows faced downtown toward hers on the 97th floor of 1 World Trade Center. His office provided a grotesque vantage point on Sept. 11; he watched as the unspeakable happened, the whole time surrounded by screaming colleagues.

Early on they agreed that theirs would be a childless marriage. Both city kids who had never known anything but apartment living, they fulfilled a dual dream two years ago by buying a weekend house in Red Hook. Naturally, both fell in love with the same place at the same moment. "The second one we looked at," said Mr. Mauro. He has trouble going there now. "That house is really her."

Hi. My name is becky, and i'm from West Virginia and on 9/11/02 my high school honored all the victims of the wtc trajedy. We each got a little name tag with one if the victims names on it. They were all different. I got Nancy's name. We represented that person for the day. All day i have wondered about her and what she looked like and what her life was like. So as soon as i got home i looked her up on here and found everything i wanted. She seemed like a great person, and it was nice being her for a day. God bless!

It was back in February 1999 when I had I met Nancy. I came up to NYC from Baltimore, MD for a contractor interview. When my work was finished at Marsh, I asked Nancy for a job referral. She told me it was against company policy to give referrals, but she typed a letter for me anyway. I don't remember the exact wording, but it went something like this: "To Whom It May Concern, Fernando Ulloa has left Marsh, Inc. in good standing." It really meant it lot to me. It showed me what a caring person Nancy was. I will always remember Nancy for that.

Rest in Peace.

It is January and I was horrified to find out recently of Nancy death. I was a childhood friend of Don, her husband, and had been at their wedding. They had such love and caring for each other. She had a wonderful insight into people. I can not imagine a greater loss for Don and a worst way to become aware of it.

take care, and feel free to contact me anytime.

My prayers and thoughts are with Nancy and her family. I'm a grade school student at St.Veronica's school. I enjoy many of the same things Nancy enjoys. I do not live in in New York. I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin . I would just like to let you know I'm praying for Nancy and her family.

Sincerely,

Margo Martynski

Hi to Nancy's family. My name is also Nancy, and my very best friend since 1st grade worked with Nancy at Marsh until 3/00. He told me about her, and somehow, I felt that I knew her. He joked that he always loved every "Nancy" he met, and he had met a few! September 11 was this same good friend's 31st birthday, and it was also the birth of my first son. I just wanted to reach out and for you to know that a "stranger" felt the need to give my condolences.

We are very sorry for your loss of Nancy. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

The loss of Nancy deeply saddens me. I worked with Nancy at MMC in the early 1990's. She possessed a good mind, a great sense of humor and was a very hard working colleague. Nancy and I often talked about her cats, the opera, and fashion. We kept in touch on a off over the last ten years via the phone. Hours after the attack I thought of her and was filled with despair. My sincerest wishes for healing to her family, friends and MMC co-workers.

I worked at MMI in the early 90's and met Nancy there. We sometimes lunched with a group of women from the tech dept. I greatly admired her and am sorry to learn of her loss. May she always be surrounded by beauty!
