Margaret Orloske Obituary

American History Buff

It is not easy to prepare an entire Thanksgiving meal, from turkey to pies, over an open fire. But every year, Margaret Quinn Orloske made it look easy. Using only cast iron pots, trivets and a brick oven, Mrs. Orloske and her husband, Duane, cooked their Thanksgiving dinner — and many other meals — in the cooking hearth of their home, a reproduction of an 18th-century house with period details but modern appliances.

A lifelong American history buff, Mrs. Orloske was transported daily from the world of five-count ovens and antique woodwork to one of electronic networks and information management, as she traveled two and a half hours each way to her job as a vice president at Marsh & McLennan.

Mrs. Orloske enjoyed her work enough to make the commute, but she also loved returning to her dream home in Windsor, Conn. "I think the 18th century was her refuge," Mr. Orloske said. "It was such a contrast to what her everyday life was like."

A former librarian, Mrs. Orloske, 50, was a born organizer. The details of an annual trip in December were worked out by Labor Day.

"We even knew during the summer where we were going to eat every night," said her friend Jean Mayhew, who, with her husband, often visited historic places with the Orloskes and their son, Stephen, 19. "She was a most unusual woman," Mrs. Mayhew added. "No matter what she did, she did it well."

In December, Mrs. Orloske's former boss, Tim Brady, and his wife, Bernadette, had a daughter. They named her Margaret. As a gift, Mr. Orloske presented the couple with a quilt his wife, ever the planner, had picked out for them months before. "It's something she'll always be able to have," said Mr. Brady. "From a woman she'll never be able to meet."

She is remembered for her good nature, integrity, professionalism, and her caring for others. Born and raised in Trumbull Connecticut, she settled in Windsor, with her husband of 26 years, Duane A. She received her Bachelor's Degree in History from the University of Connecticut and her Master's Degree in Library Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh. Margaret was a vice-president for Marsh & McLennan Companies in New York, where her office was on the 96th floor of World Trade Center 1. Her daily commute from Windsor to New York City, NY was a testimony not only to her love of her work but her dedication and love for her family and the many people with whom she worked. The numerous cards received by the family, following the tragedy, were filled with remarks of the caring she showed others and the difference she had made in the lives of so many. There will be a memorial service held for Margaret at Saint Gabriel's Church in Windsor, on Saturday, October 6, at 11:30 a.m. Saint Gabriel's Church is located on Route 159, Broad Street, in Windsor. Today NY1 did a segment about a man who puts a white rose on all the names of the Sept 11 heroes on their birthdays, at the 9/11 Memorial. On the day they visited, Aug 16, you were one of four people given roses. You are not forgotten.

On the 5th anniversary of your passing I still think of you and what a thoughtful, compassionate, smart and lovely lady you were to all of us who knew you and worked for you at Travelers Insurance Company headquarters. I was traveling on September 11 and unable to hear your name called, but you were in my heart. Duane and Stephen you are in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you.

It has been five years since that horrible day when so many were taken away from us. I mourn Margie constantly and yet draw strength from the friendship we had in high school. My husband was at a meeting the other day and was the only one in the room who had been in New York on 9/11 and witnessed the carnage. He spoke to the group about that and about Margaret. Then he spoke about our daughter who is about to enter college and wants to learn languages and travel abroad. He admitted to his fear and then said "She is a child of the world and I cannot hold her back". I belive that Margaret would be echoing these same words today. Thank you Margie for teaching me and mine to look forward.

I am wearing a yellow ribbon today with Margaret's name on it. I work at The University of Texas at Tyler, in Tyler, Texas, and we are wearing ribbons to honor the lost on the five year anniversary of 9/11. Margaret sounds like an incredible woman, and I hope it helps in some small way knowing that she is being remembered today.

On this day September 11, 2003 a day of rememberance I send my thoughts and prayers to the Orloske family.

From my own personal experience, the expression "Time Heals" is not true. No matter how much time has passed we will always remember and reflect. It does not get any easier with time. "Time Helps". Time does help us accept and move on but NEVER to forget.

On behalf of my father Joseph Rosalie and the Rosalie family we will always include Margaret in our daily prayers.

Sincerely,

Joyann Rosalie-Hurtle

Margaret-

You and I spoke several times about setting up services for your mother who was planning to move in with you and your family. Each night before I go to bed I pray for both she and your husband and hope that they have found comfort in eachother since we lost you on September 11th of last year. I will never forget the conversations we shared about families and aging parents. You were one of the most ambitious planners I have ever met. God Bless you and your family! You are forever in my thoughts and prayers!!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family through this terrible ordeal. As a resident of Windsor I never met Margaret but I was deeply saddened and hurt that a neighbor of the town died in this horrific event. Hoping that God heals your family and holds you in his arms and warms your hearts with Margaret's memories. Sincerely, Love and God Bless, Frank, Lorraine, Theresa, and Lauren Grottole, Windsor, CT.

Margaret was a client of mine. I spoke with her on Monday, September, 10 to ask for a meeting. She told me that she was going to be "tied" to her desk for the next few days doing budgets.

The moment I heard about the incident and where the planes hit I thought about Margaret.

I did not know her well, but thought very highly of her. She was a very professional manager.

Among her professional associates, she is missed.

To the Orloske Family - I was so sorry to hear of your loss. My prayers go out to you at this time. I worked with Margaret at Marsh and always enjoyed her company and sense of humor. I will always remember her kindness. The sadness was renewed today when I read her name in a recent list of those that were identified. May Margaret and all of those who died that day rest in peace.

TO THE ORLOSKE FAMILY,

MY FATHER JOSEPH ROSALIE WORKED WITH MARGARET IN THE PROFESSIONAL LIBRARY SERVICES DIVISION OF MARSH & MCLENNAN COMPANIES IN THE WTC ON THE 96TH FLOOR. MY FATHER ALWAYS SPOKE VERY HIGHLY OF MARGARET AND ALWAYS REFERENCED HER WARMTH, PROFESSIONALISM AND DEDICATION. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET MARGARET ON A COUPLE OF OCCASIONS. IN JUST A COUPLE OF MEETINGS I COULD SEE WHAT A WONDERFUL PERSON SHE WAS. SHE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE! ON BEHALF OF MY FATHER AND THE ROSALIE FAMILY I EXTEND OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE ORLOSKE FAMILY. OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU DAILY.

SINCERELY,

JOYANN ROSALIE

We thank Margaret for the way she touched other people's lives. May her life and love continue living in each of her family members. We are very sorry for your loss. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I also worked with Margaret at the Travelers Information Exchange. She helped me when I really needed it, and was one of the key people who

influenced my career. As a professional she set an example for others to try to follow. She was a nice person, and I enjoyed her company, and we have lost a special person. Words are so inadequate now.

Margaret was my supervisor in the Information Exchange at Travelers Insurance Company. She was the nicest, most caring and professional supervisor I've had the pleasure of working with over the years. She was a good mentor and always watched over me. My heart broke when I heard we'd lost such a wonderful lady. She once shared a story with us about her nutmeg house and how she came to be called "Nutty Meg" while attending the University of Pittsurgh, our alma mater. Maragaret could be humorous and witty. I miss you even though I hadn't seen you in some time. So long and God Bless you Margaret.
