Francis Sadocha Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 2, 2001.
Nearing a Longtime Dream
Frank John Sadocha was weeks away from his dream of opening his own restaurant on Long Island. He was training people to take over for him as manager of the food services division of Cantor Fitzgerald when the World Trade Center was attacked.

"All he tried to do was to get us ahead," said his wife, Nancy. Mr. Sadocha, who lived in Huntington with his wife and two daughters, did the catering for a local temple on weekends and sometimes weeknights, in addition to his job in the city.

"He was very much in charge, and he knew catering so well," his wife said. But as hard as he worked, Mr. Sadocha, 41, always had time for his daughters, Ashley, 5, and Kristy, 4.

A few weeks ago, after they had enrolled the girls on soccer teams, Ashley said she didn't want to play, that she wasn't any good at soccer. Her father took her outside and worked with her.

"He boosted her confidence," Mrs. Sadocha said. "By the end of the weekend she said she couldn't wait to play, and she told me, 'Daddy said I was good.' "

Every 9/11, I watch the memorial broadcast and wait to hear the bell and Frank Sadocha's name called. Frank was the Cafeteria Manager at Juilliard, when I was there, before the dorms were completed (before there was a campus meal plan). He was also on the Juilliard Hockey Team. Frank was a good friend. He was always kind to me - I ate once a day, always a tuna melt, because that was what I could afford as a starving student. I was told that Frank was covering for a co-worker on 9/11 - that he did not have to be at work that day. I mourn for Frank and all the 9/11 victims and their families. RIP, Frank.

Frank knew my husband's family, Jane and Paul Smaldone, from Wantagh. Frank came to our home and cooked for our son's Baptism
party in 1992. In addition to the main meal, he made a small pot of puttanesca sauce just for me!

Frank

Remembering you from when we were in high school together, on to Farmingdale, then CW Post as we car pooled together. Attended the same classes, worked out at the gym and partied at dance clubs. I foundly remember your Maroon Datsun 280Z. We had a lot of laughs and good times. Sadly, we pulled apart after graduating college and pursued our careers. One of my regrets was not keeping in touch with you. You were a great guy, you were taken too soon.

I will never forget meeting Frank back in 1978 at Farmingdale College. We were all a bunch of confused kids, not knowing anyone. But it was Frank, who after 1 week had about 15 guys going to lunch together everyday and paved the way for many new friendships. Every time I hear a Pink Floyd song, I think of Frank, and him getting me behind the stage at the Coliseum for "The Wall" That was a great night I will never forget. God Bless you

Frank, thousands of Facebook users got together and each is dedicating their status to someone who passed on that terrible day. I was given your name, and it sounds like you we're a great man. I didn't know you man, but I can tell from your comments that you were great.

Frank, It has been 10 years and we can still remember our days at the coliseum as if they were yesterday. You and your family are always in our thoughts and prayers. I am sure that heaven is a better place because you are cooking for everyone up there, just as you did for us.
You are a wonderful man and eventhough you were taken from your children too soon, you will always be watching over them and guiding them.
God Bless you and your family,

I never knew you, but my wife--whom I married in 2006--is good friends with your sister, Susan, and so by extension I know her as well. I'm not sure why, but I find myself drawn to this page every year around this time. I never post anything, but I read the messages and reflect on that day and I think about your sister. I figured the 10th anniversary would be a good time to say something, but I find that I am ill equipped to say anything that would assuage the pain that your family must feel each and every day, especially this one. I'll just say that I hope it brings them some comfort to know that, as an Army Soldier, I have deployed to Afghanistan several times since 9/11 to help U.S. forces find and kill the bastards who did this. May God rest your soul.

God bless you, too, Susan.

Hey Frank, It has been nearly 10 years. I still remember the day like it was yesterday. How could God take such a good person? We had 10 years of working together and a whole lot of laughs. I will always miss you. You are always in my prayers. One day we will meet up again and cook up some fun .
God bless you.

I think of you so very often, I still have your wedding picture on my fire place mantel. The times we had together we so great. Working for you was interesting to say the least, especially out in Shelter Island. When your 1st baby was born & I just knew & was there....lol. I look at your old house everyday & think wow, what if he still lived there..what a great neighborhood it could have been. Love to you in heaven, may you be up there cooking for everyone. ~Lori

Frank,

I heard the news about you from Rich and it devastated me. You were the last person I would thik could be there. We worked together for some wild and very special occasions at the Observation Deck of Tower 2. Your talent, energy and especially your ability to put some great parties together showed your love for the "art' of food. I learned alot from you and enjoyed working with your high energy crunch time abilities. Although I have changed back to finance, I will always remember "parsley on everything!!!" is a way to make things special.

As the anniversary approaches, I can't believe that you have been gone for a year. I miss you so much, I can still hear you call me Lou, the name only you called me. I don't want it to come because you were never supposed to be gone from my life for such a long period of time. You were supposed to see me through my whole life and be there with me. The days ahead of mine that are supposed to be filled with happiness will never be like that as there will always be this hole that will never be filled. Love always, sts

I will never forget the time Frank called our desk at CIBC because he was excited to be working on top of the world at Cantor. He was such a nice guy and I loved joking w/him about getting pizza for our lunches in the cafe (at CIBC)....I just wanted to let you know that I think about him and all the others that were lost that day (unfortunately my brother was also one of them). Please know that my thoughts and prayers go out to you even during my own difficult time....

Frank,

I knew you since the early 70's. We went to school and laughed so hard at each other.

We worked together at Jones Beach, (man was that fun). We even went to Florida together on spring break. Those were the days !

After I moved away to Illinois, we still kept in touch with each other.

You were a great friend, and I miss you. God Bless.

I found this poem today, and it made me think of you.

WHY?

How in our life time?

How can it be?

Innocent and helpless

A tragedy

Why? What for? How could it be?

You can't condone this travesty

Frightened and alone

They didn't deserve to die

A question will always remain

WHY? WHY? WHY?

I knew Frank through business. He was an exceptional human being in a field in which "tough but fair" is more a campaign slogan than a genuine quality. He shared his knowledge and compassion with those who were less lucky in life, hoping that they would be able to trade on that knowledge and advance themselves. He was never too busy to ask,"How are you?," and mean it. His tremendous energy invested in his work did not distract his attention from making everyone he spoke to feel special. I miss this guy.

The world will miss such a positive role model as that which Frank had instilled in his children. Thank you for sharing his story with the world. We are deeply sorry for your loss of Frank. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
