Christopher Allingham Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 3, 2001.
The Giants' Biggest Booster
Christopher Allingham loved his family, and he loved the Giants. A season ticketholder, he never missed a home game. He even roped his sons, Christopher, 6, and Kyle, 4, and various relatives and friends into joining him. "He was like a kid," said his brother-in-law, Craig Kepple. "He was just having a good time." The night before a game, Christopher, 36, would usually pack up the portable grill, marinate the steaks, and dig out his Giants T-shirt, sweatshirt and ball cap at his home in River Edge, N.J.

The next day, he would round up the fans for a tailgate party at the stadium before the kickoff. A few weeks ago, he took his sons to a preseason game. "They loved it," said his wife, Donna. "He was a good husband and a wonderful father."

The regular season was supposed to start last Sunday.

Profile published in THE NEW YORK TIMES on September 18, 2001.

Christopher Allingham, an adoring father

Back at St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, Christopher Edward Allingham, 36, of River Edge was on the freshman football team.

That year, he broke his collarbone, ending his short-lived football career, but his love for the game never faded, said his mother, Patricia Allingham.

On game day, Mr. Allingham, a Giants season ticketholder, would head to the Meadowlands, set up his tailgate party, sometimes marinating steaks or other favorite foods, all in preparation for watching his favorite team hit the gridiron.

A devoted and adoring father, he often took his boys, Christopher, 6, and Kyle, 4, with him to the games.

"He was totally devoted to his sons," said his mother.

On Sept. 11, Mr. Allingham, a municipal bond broker for Cantor Fitzgerald Securities, was on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center's North Tower. He remains among those who are missing.

"My children are going to miss out on a great father," said his wife of eight years, Donna Allingham.

Last year he coached his older son's Little League team and was involved with the boys in other sports activities, his wife recalled.

Raised in Holmdel from the time he was 6 years old, Mr. Allingham graduated from St. John Vianney High School in 1983. He graduated from St. Peter College in Jersey City in 1988.

He was a member of the New York Municipal Bond Club. He was also a member of the Traffic and Safety Committee in his old hometown.

His mother said Mr. Allingham, one of five children, was a wonderful son. Even though he was very busy with work and family, several times a week he would call just to say hello, his mother said.

"Even my other children said he was the best of us. He was just a very sweet guy," his mother said. "My heart is breaking for Donna, his wife."

For days they were "hoping against hope" that he would be rescued, his mother said.

Besides his wife and two sons, Mr. Allingham is survived by his parents, William and Patricia Allingham of Holmdel; two sisters, Katherine Clark of Easton, Pa., and Margaret Ciccarelli of Lake Forest, Ill.; and two brothers, William Jr. and James of Hoboken.

I live in Kansas and years ago was a legal secretary inThe law firm of Chris' father. By 2001 I had long sine moved back to Kansas and had my own family and grandchildren. But as long as I live, I will never forget the dignified bearing and friendly smile of Mr. Allingham and the kindness that the Sage Gray folks showed to me in the 1970's, and how sorrowful and overwhelming it felt to know that Mr. Allingham had raised and lost a young son. Some may see political and other differences across the regions of our nation, but I see a wonderful country with wonderful people in it, and this attack, I will never forget. I have known Chris for over 20 years, our seats were right next to each other at the Giant games. He was a one of a kind guy, the games have never been the same without him. Over the years, his brother Billy and I became friendly as well. Pete Lockhart (another ticketholder) and I were just discussing how different the games were without seeing Chris and his family there.

May God Bless you, He is sorely missed.

August 15, 2011

We didn't know Chris. We randomly took a name from a prayer tree our church set up and asked us to take names of those known dead or just missing. Chris was still just missing when we took the slip of paper so we prayed for hope. We prayed for Chris then; we pray and remember his family now.

To Christopher's family and friends: please add my condolences for your loss. I never met Christopher but I feel a connection to him through our probably shared ancestry. I was deeply affected by the September 11 killings and I was heartened to see the postings on this site by individuals who will try to give Chris' life meaning through their own dedication to live a better life. I, too, will remember how blessed I am and try to dedicate a certain amount of my time to public service, because I realize that any one of us could have suffered that fate. I give my warmest wishes to his family and hope that time will help to heal what must be an enormous loss.

hello,

on the one year ann. of Sept 11, everyone in school (I am a sophmore at Delaware Valley HS) wore a sticker with someones name who died on that awful day. I choose Christopher's. After wearing his name all day, I decided that I would like to do some research on him. After reading what kind of a man, husband and father he was I was glad I choose him. It seems like he was a very great guy, its ashamed that he had to go so soon. May God Bless America.... ~Erin Michelle ~

My son Christopher Allingham was in the WTC a month to the day of 9/11 in August in 2001 having previously spent a year in college in Utah. We saw your Christopher's name over the last few months and heard it read on the radio from Ground Zero today. My Christopher's mother is also Patricia. While there may be little or no family connection the names, the tourist visit to the WTC by Christopher and a business visit by his brother Patrick John Allingham (not quite JJ), each of our Christophers watching the events unfolding on 9/11 in their different ways, there and here live on TV, makes the world such a small place and brings such an awfull event in to the homes of us all. Our thoughts are with you from this side of the pond.

JJ,

May god grant you all the peace in the world about the loss of your brother. Today is Sept 11, 2002 I was on my way to work driving and listening to the names of all the lost ones, I heard the last name allingham and I remembered it quite well. I also went to St. Peters College with you if you remember me - we used to walk from St. Peters to the PATH station a lot and then we took the Nj Transit train from Newark to Linden for me and you would get off at your stop later. Would like to get in touch with you -- Please email me -- God Bless you and your whole family-- Mark Parlacoski

My heart goes out to your family. I grew up a neighbor to Chris. He was our "closest" neighbor in old time Holmdel. Thru the woods we would walk to Jill Drive from Tulip Lane. I still remember Chris as a early teen boy. Full of fun, lots of laughter. Always fun.

Thinking of your family on this date, one year later and always.

I knew Chris and Billy from St. Peters. Two great Guys. We use to hang out at each others apartments. I also sold the Post for one year, 1 block away from the Trade center. I have Chris and a couple of his roomates to thank for that. I was so sad to hear about Chris, he was everything that JJ wrote. I have two brothers myself and can't even imagine what you have all been through. My Prayers are with you all.

To Donna, Christopher, and Kyle. . .May you hold the memories of Chris close to your hearts and know that he will always be with you. He was truely a special individual.

This message goes out to the brother of Christopher Allingham. Dear JJ, although we have never met and are complete strangers, I was deeply touched about what you had to say about your brother. Reading your statement has made me realize how life is so short and precious. Starting now, everyday I will do my best to be the best person that I can be towards my own family and please try to remember the good times that you had with your brother. I am positive that Christopher is there in spirit and that he is watching over his loved ones. You are an example to follow as far as brotherly love. You have good values and I know that your brother's death was not in vain. Take care JJ.from all your friends from Canada... Marco Sbarra... Montreal

Today I watched the ceremony at the WTC site and once again felt such sorrow. When I came to work I went online looking for stories about people who were directly affected by this tragedy. I don't ever want to forget. I happened onto this site remembering the victims and began scrolling down the list. Then I came to Christopher's name and town, River Edge, NJ. I grew up in River Edge, went to Roosevelt Elementary and River Dell Jr & Sr High. When I clicked on his name and saw his picture and read the tributes, I felt like I could have been reading about my own younger brother. I am so sorry for your loss. I know I am a stranger, and I would never mean to intrude or impose upon Chris's family, but please know that you will be in my prayers from this day forward. May the Lord grant you peace and the comfort and hope that can only come from Him.

Father we entrust our brother Christopher to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.

My church, St. John Vianney, participated in a prayer tree over the Christmas season. We were asked to pick up a name from a basket and pray for this person and their family who at the time were only listed as missing. We randomly got Chris. Chris's name will be a part of our prayers and Christmas where his memorial note will be placed each year on our tree. May his wife and sons and all who knew and loved him be consoled in knowing they will be held closely in many hearts and be at peace.

The warm and friendly smile Christopher has in his picture you have shared with us must be a reflection of his heart. We are very sorry for your great loss of Christopher. May his life and love (and love for the Giants) live on in you. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
