What a beautiful person - a light in a dark world. She's gone way too soon, but her legacy of kindness, empathy, and delight lives on. May God rest Monique's soul, and may she live on through her friends and family. God Bless you all.

I've known her all throughout my childhood. her home was exactly around the corner from my home. Monique, was always a sweet smiley girl. She was always well behaved and her mom always sent her to school clean and well dressed. One thing that stands out to me is when we were in public school-PS 157-everyday as the classes would come down to lunch, i remember that Monique's mom (Ms. Hernandez) would come to the school building and in the foyer at the entrance to the school building would bring lunch for her and her daughter. i remember it well because i always wondered what she ate since she never sat in the lunch room to eat school lunch with the rest of us.
the last time i spoke to Ms. Hernandez was the day i signed out of LI College Hospital-Brooklyn- from having my baby girl. Monique's mom is (or was) a registered nurse at that hospital. her mom remembered me instantly as we started talking and catching up. i remember Ms. Hernandez saying, Monique just moved back to Brooklyn from Florida and she did not have any babies yet.
11 months later while i was working at Rockefeller Center on 5th avenue, NYC. the towers came down. the next day as i was watching all the coverage from ground zero, i saw Ms. Hernandez crying into the news camera with a picture of Monique. She was looking for her baby girl, and that's when i knew.
Monique, always in our hearts.......(She was one of us, and their is a bunch of u), from Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, all the way to the heavens.

We went to the movies spur of the moment this past Labor day weekend while visiting Weli. Everyone was unsure about going to the movies, giving the run around (from what I heard you didn't like too much when it came with getting the family together). But then I thought about the last labor day you spent with the family right before 9/11 and how much we laughed and how I got out the car and would of never thought that was my last time hearing your voice again and it made me jump right in the car with Nandy, Chris, Ely, Gigi, Amanda, and Elana, we just ended up packing up into the car (you would of cracked up how squished we were) and heading out. This family isn't missing a piece because you still hold it together. We love & miss you so much.

I didn't know you, but I'm sorry your life ended so suddenly. I'm sorry for your family. Years ago I was looking for something to do to pay honor to the victims of this horrible tragedy. Beloved Monique,

I remember taking you to your ballet classes each week. I looked forward to that special time...that was our time. I remember holding your tiny hand as we crossed the streets of Brooklyn. I sang to you as we walked and all you did was smile :) We would finish our day with a stop for pizza or ice cream. You loved that!

I remembered when you and your mom came to my bridal shower. I was so happy to see you both! I could not get over how much you looked like your Mommy and how beautiful and mature you were! I hugged you so much that day! I wish it was possible to hug you today. My children and I celebrate your life, especially on your birthday, Thanksgiving and Valentine's day. I will forever rememeber you Monique. Rest in peace my Ballerina. I love you big.

I remember posting on a site for this woman when I was in high school ... and that was about 8 or 9 years ago .... what a large coincidence that we have almost the exact same full name ... actually we do our middle name is different .... I used to email her family for a short while .... the baby was named after her or someone and she has to be about 8 years old .... I always wondered how y'all were doing and how the baby is ... please Facebook me or something :-)

Hey Monique, sorry about the late response. We were at my Mom's house on 9/11 and we talked about you. We talked about the old days on Franklin Avenue. I remember seeing you in Miami that one day, what a shock that was ! I also remember seeing you a couple of months before 9/11 telling you how I had an interview with Cantor Fitzgerald. Last night it hit me so hard, because I felt like you gave me a sign. I needed 9 years ago Labor Day weekend all over again for you to cheer me up. I'll never forget the ride back from New Jersey, in the car, you and mom were joking and laughing so hard and had the music blasting. It also hit me yesterday that I kept telling you guys to play the "Someday We'll be Together" by Diana Ross song back on and you guys were so busy cracking up. We even had to pull over because of your tire but we never stopped laughing. Monique that song will forever remind me of you and that Labor Day weekend. We love and miss you so much.

I still can't believe that it has been 9 years since I last spoke to you and you kept harassing me to come to the NYC to hangout with you like we used to in Miami. The late nite calls, studying and your unique way of hooking me up!!!! Those were some interesting dates with those guys but I LUVed every moment of it!! But what I remember most about you Moni is the way in which we met!!! LOL!!!!! Girl, you know you are HILIARIOUS with that ol' squeaky New Yorkian Voice of yours!!!!

Experiencing your first "Hurricane/Tropical Storm" was so.....funny. Driving me up the wall, sleeping at Jackson Memorial because you thought you were going to blown away??? LOL!! And the storm turned the other way, like I told you!!! Too funny!!!
