Donald Tuzio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 5, 2001.
A Buyout and a Fateful Day
For 15 years, Donald Joseph Tuzio worked for Bear Stearns as a systems programmer. He liked the work and he liked his colleagues. He would go to Yankee games with co-workers and he managed the office softball and soccer teams. "He enjoyed that kind of stuff," said his wife, Rosemary Tuzio. "And he always had to run a party at the end."

Last summer, for the first time in a decade, Mr. Tuzio, who was 51 and lived in Goshen, N.Y., did not manage the softball team. He was leaving the firm. He had escaped layoffs in March, but feared he might not be so fortunate. He took a buyout in June. "He not only liked the extracurricular activities, he really liked his job," Mrs. Tuzio said. "A lot of people did not have that luxury. He thought he was going to retire from there. He just belonged there."

His last day was July 31. Then he took a short vacation to Niagara Falls with his wife and daughter and his sister and her family. He also began to send out his resume, but did not plan to start a serious search until after a job-hunting workshop that was part of his buyout package. It started Sept. 11 at the World Trade Center.

After all these years, I still wear the softball cap that you gave me. All of the memories that I have of you always bring a smile to me. Working the overnight shift with us, you were always making us laugh, even in times of critical issues.
It's been almost nineteen years since I've last seen you, but you'll always be in my heart as well as in the hearts of every person whose lives you touched.
I know that you're keeping them in stitches in heaven. ♥
Until we meet again...

You were lost in one of the most tragic ways. My condolences for your family. My city does a 9/11 Memorial blood drive every year. I gave today in memory of you. We receive a sticker with the names of the victims and my sticker had your name on it. My heart goes out to your family and hope that they know you are an angel in heaven looking over them.

Don, I had the honor to work with you both professionally and as your assistant on the Bear Stearns softball team. I was constantly amazed how you got the team's attention, bringing your point across during one of those trying games but still had their respect. you were well loved and revered. I made it a point to include you and your family in my prayers every Sunday at church. We will never forget you. God bless you and your family.

Don,
The years have left an emptiness that cannot ever be filled. You are a Wonderful Man and I know that your spirit lives on in Rose and Jeannie. Whenever I smell Pierre Cardin I know you have passed through. God blessed all of us to have known you and someday we will meet again. Be sure to have your sunglasses. Love you forever.

I worked with Don while I was in Bklyn on a couple of projects from Bear. Only met him once in person, but a real nice guy who would help you with just about anything. One of the few good ones, I'll miss him.

I remember buying my Bear Stearns Soccer sweatshirt in your cubicle.. You were such a nice person and good husband and father. A kind soul who didn't deserve the fate that you got. I hope in the end it was without pain and you are at peace. God Bless you Don.. If heaven has a softball team, I'm sure you are selling shirts and arranging parties!

Tribute to Don

When this you see remember me and never cry in pain

For I am even closer now, just on a different plain

It's better to cry a tear of love, than sit alone and greave

For I will always be with you now and never have to leave

The breeze you felt upon your face, was just a simply kiss

The warmth you feel surrounding you, are hugs you tend to miss

When your loney, come talk to me, in early morning glisten

I may not be allowed to speak, but I will always listen

Keep me deep within your heart and you will be amazed

I'll be there to comfort you, if life becomes to crazed

I'll carry you if you should tire and keep you safe and warm

I'll always be there by your side and protect you from all harm

Just the very thought of me, will keep my soul alive

I shall always give you strength, and help you to survive

When you dream about me now, from evenings dusk till dawn

You will know throughout your life, I've never really gone

Rose and Jeannie - You know my thoughts are with you and I pray for you and Don every day. I think back to the days when you first started dating Don, how my father took to him so quickly and how he just fit into our family. Tell me, who didn't love Don? His wonderful smile and sense of humor won you over the minute you met him. I think of him often and will always be proud to call him my cousin. I'm here for you if you need me. I love you all.

Mrs Tuzio I share in your loss. Wesley and I used to work with Don at Pershing and Company in the late 1970's. I remember how Don's glowing personality and sense of wit lit up the computer room. I'm just sorry I didn't keep in touch with him. And yes he was a teddy bear who will be sorely missed.

I am glad that I had an opportunity to get to know Don. Don was such a lovable teddy bear. He always had a smile on his face, and everyone that followed him also was smiling. He knew just the right things to say for people to smile and laugh. He is a great guy, and will be missed dearly. To his family, my prayers will always be with you.

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Donald.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
