Patricia Cushing Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 6, 2001.
PATRICIA CUSHING, 69, of Bayonne, N.J., took her first flight on a commercial airplane Sept. 11 on United Flight 93, which crashed in Pennsylvania. "She's been talking about this trip for a year," said her nephew, Steve Hasenei. "She's never been outside the East Coast." Cushing had planned to go to San Francisco. She was a retired service representative for Verizon Communications.

There isn't an anniversary of 9/11 or mention of that awful day, when I don't think of Pat. I remember her wonderful smile. Her kind, quiet manner. Her gentle grace. I feel the greatest sorrow; the most powerful rage; and the most fervent wish for peace and tolerance so that something like this never happens again.

IN JULY I VISITED THE TEARDROP MEMORIAL IN BAYONNE. IT IS A VERY MOVING MONUMENT. WHILE WALKING AROUND TAKING PICTURES I STOPPED AND LOOKED DOWN THERE WAS A COBBLESTONE WITH PAT'S NAME ON IT. I AM SURE SHE WAS SAYING HELLO.

September 12, 2009

I never knew Patricia, and I am sorry I didn't.
I only know that I dreamt of her recently and she told me " I was brave." She stood in front of me and asked me to tell Thomas " I was brave and we held to each other." This seemed an important message. God Bless you.

I too worked with Pat... in Jersey City back when Verizon was Bell Atlantic and further back when it was New Jersey Bell. She was a lady in every sense of the word and had a quiet, gentle demeanor. She was beautiful and elegant... As Kalisea mentioned, Pat always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude that made her a joy to be around. Her light continues to shine for all of us touched by her presence and we cherish her memory. My best to her family, always...

patricia cushing was my "angel at work", i used to sit next to her in the jersey city office. She always had a smile and blessings for me. When i heard she was a victim of this terror. i truly was heartbroken. She was one of the great ones. She is and will continued to be missed. God Bless Her and her family. I sure when u lose someone of her stature, poise, and grace, the void is always there. Stay Strong.

On this day of rememberance I would like to take a moment to remember Pat and every other soul that perished on that sad day. To me they were truely heros. I was surely blessed to have an opportunity to know Pat. She was a wonderful woman. I know every year I think of her and her sister-in-law. You were an angel here on Earth Pat, I know your wings just got bigger when you arrived to heaven. May your souls rest in peace and may your family find that peace within their own souls. You all were angels and heros on that flight and I will never forget all that had perished on that day. R.I.P.

When I picture Pat, I see her always with a smile on her face, lighting up her beautiful blue eyes. She was a true lady in every sense of the word and one of the people whom I respected and liked most when I worked with her at the telephone company. It broke my heart to learn that she was one of the passengers of Flight 93 and I'll always feel angry and sad about that.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am for the families loss. Satan is using any means necessary to get people to do his will. Please know that Jehovah sees all that is going on and will soon put an end to this badness. We have his promise at Psalm 37: 10,11. Please keep the faith that this will soon end. Never give up! That's what Satan wants.

We are deeply sorry for our nation's loss of Patricia. May her life and love live on in you. May the precious memories of time together lighten the sorrow in your hearts. I believe God cried when He saw the evil that took the lives of His innocent children before their time. In the shadows of the darkness they cried out His name. They found shelter and protection from human pain as He lovingly pulled them into His embrace. Cradled in His arms earthly cries became heavenly songs as angels were born. Our hearts cry deeply with you in America's loss of a hero.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

There is nothing I can do or say to really help, but, just know that someone out there grieves for you, and is thinking about your family.
