I just cant believe how much I miss you and everyone else at that left us that day 18yrs ago. Im older with a amazing wife and four kids all of whom unfortunately missed out meeting such an amazing person! The good news is how many good stories I get to tell, and Im pretty good at it . Mr. Upton...I toured the 9/11 memorial on 6/6/17 and saw several white flowers placed on names at the memorial. I chose to pick a name & always celebrate their life on their birthday. I can not imagine the pain your family has gone through, but I hope they know that you have touched so many lives! Even the lives of strangers who simply knew you by a name etched in stone, but will NEVER forget! Happy Birthday, Mr. Upton!!!

Allen was like an uncle to me, I was part of his "Upstate" family. I first met him when I was 4 months old. He was best friends with my Uncle and came to live with my parents while he worked in the Lake George area during summer breaks from college. I will never forget all the great times we had. I wish every day that you were still here. I wish you you could meet my wife and my beautiful twin girls. I wish they could have had you in their lives like I did. Only those who knew you can truly appreciate how incredible you were. They say time heals all wounds but it doesn't feel like this one will ever heal. I love you and miss you, Keith.

I was Allen's Personal Trainer when he was a member of NYSC on Reade Street. We always had a good time when he came in to workout. He always provided encouragement and guidance for me to continue my education. I still remember the last time I saw him and the small conversation we had and how I updated him on my progress. He once said to me when I was 21-22 yrs of age “The choices and decisions you make now can and will effect you for the rest of your life.” This was just a small phrase I remember from him on the numerous conversations I had with him. This occurred at least 10yrs ago.

I am now in college and I remember when I was little and you were my uncle ane. Its been seven years and everyday I think about you and how you called me your little princess. You were one of the funniest and big hearted people I have ever met. I wish I could have had you in my life longer but I am thankful for having you and being able to say i knew you. I miss you so much it's crazy. Losing you was one of the hardest things I have ever had to experience. I miss your visits and how you always made me feel better when I cried. Your kindness has touched so many people and my mom and dad miss you so much. Yesterday was 1 year since the Twin Towers were attacked. Allen was my friend from Brockport. When I first heard the news, I was struck by the fact that Allen was the only person I ever knew who worked in those buildings. We had lost touch over the years...a painful lesson to learn that we let moving, or jobs, or the stuff of life get in the way of staying in touch. Within days after September 11th, I checked the Cantor Fitzgerald website & was thrilled to find that Allen's name was not among the missing or the dead. I cheered privately that Allen must have moved on, and was safe somewhere in the world. I continued to check Westchester death notices or articles in the papers just to confirm my hope. Each time, I felt the same relief that Allen's name wasn't there. But is left me wondering where he was. Then I learned. Last month, while reading my Brockport alumni newsletter, I was shocked to come across an article paying tribute to Allen... confirming that 20 years later, he was still working in the World Trade Center...still at Cantor Fitzgerald. 11 months after the attacks, I felt the pain that others had long known. It was only yesterday, September 11, 2002, that I first saw Allen's picture in the New York Times among the other victims. Allen was full of life, quick-witted & extraordinarily loyal & supportive of his friends. Why had I let the years pass? I visited him at the World Trade Center when he first started at Cantor Fitzgerald...a long way from Brockport. Somehow I found it appropriate that he was literally at the top of the building....in very stately offices befitting his style and personality. Some of our other Brockport friends...Fran Farrell & Susie Allen always knew Allen would be successful & surge beyond the expectations of many SUNY graduates. I hope his family finds some comfort in these messages as I did. I know Allen will make heaven alot more fun. Knowing Allen, he's probably already planning a huge reunion, with all details in order, for a reunion with all who knew him. God Bless Allen!

September 11, 2002
My sister Lynne got an email last September from our second cousin Peter Donaghey of Strabane, Northern Ireland, telling us that he had just learned from his cousin Margaret in Florida that her sister Myra had a son who had died in the World Trade Center. The email gave his name as Alan Upton and said that he was unmarried and worked for Cantor Fitzgerald. At the time I couldn't find much on the Web besides the confirmation that there was an Alan Upton at Cantor Fitzgerald; this morning's paper had the name Allen V. Upton.
It is a bewildering thing indeed to learn of the death of a relative (our third cousin, it would seem) who we hadn't known existed until after we had lost him.
Such a senseless loss.

Allen: I wear your name badge proudly as I sing Mozart's "Requiem" in tribute to you and all the others who joined with you on this tragic day. I wish I had known you here on earth. Now, my only hope is to meet you at some later date in heaven. Know that I am thinking about your family, too, as I sing. They, too, are now given a special place in my heart.

He should be in the Bahamas celebrating his 45th birthday with friends tomorrow. That's what he had planned. Instead, tomorrow, on his birthday, we will all be thinking of the beautiful, funny and generous man that we were priviledged to know and love. And how we miss him so.
He was a delight, a terrific friend. Always ready to help you when things went wrong, with a plan, a useful contact's phone number, a lecture. And always genuinely pleased when things went right, maintaining that, yes, well, of course, you deserved it, good for you!
I was lucky to have shared him as the perfect traveling companion. He loved the off-beat as well and the classic. Selecting Budapest, Cairo, Mykonos and Berlin for his very first trips out of the country, well before the frequent, later visits to his beloved Crown Jewels in London and the Rodin Museum in Paris attests to the inquisitive nature of his lively mind. Whether it was Memphis, Krakow
(twice), New Orleans, St. Tropez or Atlantis, I can still hear his resounding confirmation of a future trip, just the two words," Book It!". Never a whiner, he made the best of every travel situation. You were guaranteed a good time if you were traveling with Allen.
I know he was very brave, though he'd have you believe otherwise. And, though he would often deny he had one, he gave of his beautiful heart so freely that all of us who knew him have a piece of it.
He is missed so terribly and all the world is a much sadder place without him.
From one of his many, many best friends,
Love For Your Birthday and Always, Maureen

How does one begin to share a story about one of the most sensitive, compassionate individuals to ever touch ones life. What began as a simple client/advisor relationship soon developed into one of my most valuable friendships. You were a tough client but a fair client and you never failed to take the time to ask about my wife and children despite your unhappiness with the financial markets. I must admit I so enjoyed the task of "stroking" you on those difficult market days. It was always fun when you described Bernard's mood and he described yours. What's funnier is that both of you would tell me not to tell the other. I will miss "CANTOR." I am deeply saddened knowing that you were not able to enjoy that new kitchen and bathroom that you looked forward too. I am equally saddened by your never having had met my wife Lisa or my children - Olivia and Max. A point deeply painful given we spoke that Monday and agreed that Lisa and I would come to you and Accapella. I have come to realize that unless you were going on vacation, you probably would have melted had you left the city. I often bragged about you to Lisa and she looked forward to meeting you - "my good friend Allen." I am sure that you would have done my description justice! To say that I was blessed to have know you is surely an understatement. But it is all that I can say. My only regret - albeit painful to admit - is that I never shared with you how much you ment to me as my friend. I miss you! The Goddess misses you!

My Darling brother was (is) the most amazing man. He was 3 years younger than I, in age, and a million (okay, a few) years older in wisdom, humor, generosity, kindness. You get the drift. It has taken me so long to write anything because my heart is still so broken. He was my best friend and daughter Heather's God-Father, Uncle Alf. My son Ryan will barely remember this truly remarkable man. So sad. Heaven is lucky. So, Allen, I say to you "If you would have lived to be 100, I would have wanted to live to be 100 minus 1 day, so I would never have to have lived without you." With a toast in hand, I love you and look forward to being with you again when it's my turn. Your ever-loving sister.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Words can not express the sadness that I feel. I met Allen in 1976 at Brockport and we became friends for life. I feel so blessed to be able to say I knew this wonderful man. There isn't a day that goes by since September 11 that I don't think of him and miss him. He made me smile and laugh for 26 years. I know that heaven is now serving vodka and everyone there is having more fun then they ever thought possible. I miss your phone calls once a week and our silly times we shared. Until I see you again.
I'll always love you,

I first met Allie one evening in Sep of 1987. Along with two other young Australians, I was fresh off the boat and had started working in a joint venture with Telerate, which was where Jackie worked. Allie had arranged a night out on the town to celebrate Jackie’s birthday. In what I would come to realize was typical Allie fashion, he arrived in style in a stretch limo to pick us up. We went to Ben Bensons, one of New York City’s finest Steakhouses where we met 20 other people for dinner. The waiters knew Allie and he was treated like royalty. Allie picked up the tab in the first of endless examples of his generosity that I have seen over the years.
From the moment I met Allie he was larger than life. He loved the finest things, he was always the center of any party and he was someone who gave more of himself to others than anyone else I know.

My brother Allen was always someone who helped others. He never advertised the fact that he helped so many people in so many different ways. He never talked about his numerous acts of kindness such as giving money to anyone who needed it, taking care of all of his god children, his warm words, his advice, his foster children, his donations the list goes, on and on. I am sure if you met Allen you were touched by his kindness. He had a gift to make people feel special no matter who you were.
We all will miss Allen. I will miss him because he was my best friend, friends like Allen don't come along too often, and I was very lucky to have him in my life. I love you Allen.
