Christy Addamo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 6, 2001.
A Traveling Homebody

Christy A. Addamo was beautiful. She had big dark eyes and brown hair as shiny as mink, which she liked to have her mother, Rita, fix in an upsweep. And smart: she made the dean's list at Queens College, where she got a degree in accounting that led to a job at Marsh & McLennan on a high floor of the World Trade Center.

Brave, too: she loved to travel, to places where she could swim with stingrays. She also liked to be home, learning Italian cooking at her mother's side. She melted chocolate and poured it into umbrella-shaped molds that became lollipops served at her friends' bridal showers. At 28, she had begun thinking about being a bride herself one day. She had a pack of friends, who accompanied her to Yankees games (she liked Paul O'Neill, and saw him and the rest of the team capture the 2000 World Series) and on long walks around the city (she kept a pair of sneakers at the office).

For birthdays and other milestones, she would compose poems. For her parents' 25th wedding anniversary, she and her sister organized a big party. At Christmas, she took the whole family to Radio City for a show.

"Ah," her mother said the other day, remembering. "She was the best."

I never knew Christy. I was only 14 years old when 9/11 happened. I looked up Christy's name after I took a picture when I was in New York during Thanksgiving of 2021. I came here to pay my respects and let her family know that I will keep them in my prayers. Even though time has passed, the pain of missing your loved one never goes away. I wanted to share the picture I took of the memorial and Christy's name and hope it gives you peace.

On this 20th Anniversary of 911, I am truly very sorry for your loss always.
Do you know or remember if Christy ever went on a trip to Fort Lauderdale with a friend or cousin in the late 1980s or early 1990s?
I met a young lady & her friend there at the time and she mentioned to me that she worked in the Twin Towers doing accounting/finance work. I always ponder if this was Christy.
Please let me know if you believe this was her.
Either way, God bless on this truly sad day.

Today my 6 year old niece asked my sister if she knew just one name of those who lost their lives on 9/11. My sister and I both realized we didn't. So I decided to choose someone to remember, pray for, and honor each year. Christy is that person. So she will be in my thoughts & prayers for the rest of my life. I'm so sorry for your loss - I cannot imagine.

September 11, 2019

Taking time today to read about the lives of those lost. Christy seems like she lived life to the fullest and contributed so much to the lives around her. My deepest condolences for the loss of your loved one. We will never forget.

Hi Christy. Its so sad you died on 9/11. You probably had a lot to live for. I also read in your profile that you were a Yankees fan.

Too bad you did not see them clinch their 27th WS in 2009, as the core four of Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada & Andy Pettitte were part of that run. Rivera became a hall of famer this year, and Jeter is likely to be inducted in a few months.

The Bronx Bombers could win another title again this October...

This time of year we remember very well all who lost their lives but every person was unique. I'm sure anyone who knew her could talk about her all day.She and the taking of 3,000 lives was a needless act. I never had the privilege of meeting you Ms. Addamo, but as someone of about the same age as you would - and should- be now, I grieve for what you were so unfairly deprived of. Words on a screen from a stranger can't convey much meaning, but I hope your family knows that even strangers can see what a vibrant woman Christy was and what a terrible loss it must be. She is not forgotten. I'm a proud Canadian but every anniversary I read about a victim of 9/11 and it affects me and grieves me as deeply as any American would. I'm so sorry for your loss.

As I watched my 5 year old eat her breakfast this morning before preschool, I couldnt help but think of her innocence and how she will never know how sad of a day this is for so many who remember what happened 13 years ago.I wondered if you were still here, would you be a mom doing the same things as I am today? My name is Joanne Burghard, and I briefly worked with Christy at Lawson Mardon Packaging in New Hyde Park in 1999. Although I didn't really know Christy very well, I remember her helping me with my new employee paperwork when I first started working there in March '99. I remember thinking what a sweet and helpful girl she was. I remember she left the company shortly after I had started working there. I remember learning she got a job as an accountant at Marsh & McLennan in Manhattan. I wish she had never changed jobs. . . I remember how sad and devastated all our co-workers were when we found out she was among those lost. I just wanted to let her family know that I am thinking of her today and my deepest condolences to all of you for having to undergo such a tragic loss. May God bless her and all of you.

Although I never met you, I am thinking of you and the so many other innocent lives taken from this world on that fateful day . It is very hard to believe that 10 years ago today ( the day before ) so many lives were different, and our world seemed innocent . What I believe is that you are in a beautiful place where there is only happiness. So, on this 10 year anniversary I know God is holding you close, but I will pray that God holds even closer your family and friends. For it is always those left behind that are suffering the most. Rest in Peace Christy Adamao.
