My man Johnny! Not one day goes by thinking about you! You are the flower that blossoms when we go by with our day. When we are down your picture is in our heads and makes us stronger. We do it for Johnny! Your soul is powerful. They say the good die young, and we believe that you were chosen for a reason. But why? God had a plan for you, but it hurt the people that loved you. i know you are happy in your next life. i sense it. Whisky and cigars and now daddy is there. Salude! We miss you, Love you, Protect us, Pray for us. Cheers my brother! Have a whisky for me with daddy! My Role models! I will see you again! That's a fact!

John was a very close friend of the family. Even though he was a few years older than me, we grew up together as our families saw each other on regular basis. He always had a smile on his face, always had something funny to say and we all looked up to him. He took me to my first Mets game in the late 80's which feels like it was yesterday. RIP brother.

He was a colleague. We didn’t interact much But I recall the kindness. It was a simple act but I always recall. I had gotten off the elevator. I had forgotten my ID tag for entry. I turned around and saw John about to get into an elevator. I asked him if he would swipe his tag for me. He said sure. Let the elevator go and helped me. It was a little thing. But it’s stuck with me for all these years.

My sister and I are at the 911 memorial with our husbands and nieces. Our maiden name is Spataro. Out of all the names she looked down and saw John's. A sign from God. He will forever be in our hearts. Our grandparents were from Sicily and we are from Milwaukee and Florida. I am sure we could be distantly related. We prayed at his name and we will never forget him.

John,
I can't tell you how often I think of you. Always fondly. I miss you so much. You made my godmother and aunt so happy. For that alone, I love you. But it is so much more. You are a wonderful person and I always enjoyed spending time with you and Aunt Tricia. Love you! Thinking of you always! ❤ Breanne

not sure if i'm related but my mother is a Spataro.
I was there when the first plane went in and did a medial recovery until the last steel was pulled out.
Because I feel a connection. I go there every year and say a prayer by your name. I was there at the 911 memorial today, too.

My history teacher hung a large American flag a few weeks ago for the memorial of all that slag... I wanted to not pass by the 9/11 date with just another idle thought. The flag had printed on it all the 3,000+ victims' names. I marched up and chose the first one my eyes read--yours.
I understand I don't know you or your family and friends, but I'm touched by their care and purpose on this little website I stubbled to while Google-ing your name.
My generation was around 5-years old, and seeing as the event becomes less apparent to ages younger than ours, I'm privileged to have an edge of memory upon it.
I hope to meet you someday, sir! God keep your companions.

John, it took me this long to accept your physical presence is gone. you were a kind, generous, joyous friend and a good colleague to work with. I felt so so so bad, thatI had cancelled our lunch the Monday before, which we had planned to discuss my new job. I had planned to call you that Tuesday morning to let you know that lunch that Tuesday was good, when I heard the airplane flying low before it crashed into the WTC. I kept calling and calling you to no avail. I could not accept it, I visited hospitals looking for you, I then saw your picture on CNN, John I miss you deeply and though it seems like yesterday, I know your soul is blessed by God and you are resting in Peace with God's angels, Never to be forgotten. Keep Trish Massari laughing. bless you and Trish's souls always

My name is Giovanni Spataro, i really don't know who John Anthony was befor 9/11. Two days after, i was reading an italian newspaper and in an article i found his first name and second one translated in italian. My heart stop beating. For a year, sometimes i think about him, about what happened. As absurd it can be, i want to say: rest in peace.

I never knew of John until two days ago when, at the dress rehearsal for our choir's performance of Mozart's "Requiem", I was given a heart with his name on it. In his memory I performed an incredible piece of music and thus became a part of the fabric of his story. I feel honored to have been so chosen.
I sure hope you liked the music, John.

I have the privelege of sewing a quilt block with his name on it, in Mr. Spataro's memory, for the United in Memory Quilt that will begin touring the country this fall in New York.
I hope the quilt will bring some small measure of comfort to the loved ones that have lost so much.

A part of hearts was blown away Just like the towers
on that dreaded day
Life will never be quite right
The candle that once glowed
Gives off little light
We know you wouldn't want us to fuss
You would want us to go on
No matter what
To God, for strength we pray
To go on with you out you everyday
We miss you very much. We are so happy that we got to spend alot of time with you last year.

America Cries
We see your sorrow-
and our hearts cry....
We can not erase your pain
but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-
-the American people-
are beside you.
We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,
the strength that gives you courage,
and the words to lighten your spirits.
And when we are left speechless
may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts
to ease your sorrow.
May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-
-the American people-
face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
