Ramzi Doany Obituary

Ways to Amass Friends
Ramzi Doany amassed friends. He amassed them with acts of kindness, like tutoring a woman with lupus, two children and no husband, to get her through college, or letting his college roommate and the roommate's wife live in his condo for two years so they could save money for a down payment on a house.

He amassed friends with his sense of humor, which filled a room and flourished at an early age. As a boy of 9 or 10, young Ramzi dug a hole in the backyard for a terrible report card and put a stone on top. "He said it was dead and buried," said his sister, Dina Doany Azzam.

Mr. Doany was born to Palestinian parents in Amman, Jordan, and lived for many years in Milwaukee. At 35, he devoured the novels of Dickens, cooked Thanksgiving turkeys with great pride (even if they were just a bit dry) and had just bought a Harley- Davidson motorcycle. He chose to work as a forensic accountant last March for Marsh & McLennan, the insurance brokerage company, because it would bring him to New York, a city he loved. The job also brought him to the World Trade Center.

It was a funny sort of journey, his sister said.

Samia, thank you for responding. I have been reading about your wonderful son Ramzi . Such a senseless waste. Could you give some more information on how long you lived in Milwaukee ? I am reaching out to families with connections to Wisconsin. Do you still have family here? I intend to put together an informational package on those with Wisconsin connections. God bless. I look forward to meeting in person some day at the Memorial.

First we were incarcerated together (boarding school joke,) then we both found freedom in the great America. Yours is a wicked loss to the world and all freedom loving people.

Keep the angels smiling until we meet again. Adieu, my friend.

Dear Ramzi...I just learnt of your sad passing from your cousin Nadine. We had not met since you were a belligerent and robust 15-year-old at Bloxham, and I was a classmate of your elder brother Ibby. I remember fondly your exuberant personality, and your ability to create disturbances at Wilberforce! I hope you are causing havoc with the Angels in Heaven!

I have only just found this book, thanks to a new friend who shared her 9/11 story with me yesterday. I was the real estate agent who assisted Ramzi in finding his condo when he first came to the NY area. He came to my office all in smiles, excited at his new career in "the big city"! He was kind, polite, and eager to create a new home for himself. He brought oatmeal raisin cookies, and would share them as we searched for just the right place. He was charming, and it was truly my pleasure to know him, if only for a short while. We spoke only a few times after he moved into his new Bayonne home... but I will always remember him. I have been back to that building many times in my business, and I always say hello to that sweet young man on the first floor who shared his love of life so easily. Rest in Peace, Ramzi.

Ramzi,
I can't believe how the years have past so fast, you will always be in our hearts and missed.
I miss the days when we pulled allnighters to study for the accounting exams, the trip on the Harley you rented for the weekend, or the food we cooked together (or attempted to), but mostly your words of encouragement and support that you gave me. I wouldn't be where I am now without your positive words and push to believe in myself.
I wish you where here to meet my son (Ramzi) who just turned one few weeks ago, but I'm sure you are in a better place keeping an eye on us just like you always did on earth.
We will never forget you, may the lord be with you, your family and friends.

5 years too late but I finally came across this tribute site for my cousin Ramzi. On this anniversary I went surfing for anything on him still on the 'net and found TONS! I have many memories of our childhood together (sorry, not gonna share), but last saw him when he made a special trip to Toronto for my wedding with his Mum (my Auntie Samia). We still treasure the pictures he's in... May God treasure your soul as we treasure your memory.

Ibrahim and Dina:

I remember when Ramzi first came to UWM. I remember all the great times we had together in the lobby of the dorms, at social get togethers, especially all the humour of Ramzi.

I remember speaking to him in Port Washington, Wisconsin, about what he will be doing in the future. He was so much fun, among the greatest of people, warm and funny!

He was a special friend, who loved his family, and who will always be remembered!

I knew of Ramzi through his sister Dina. Although we never knew each other very well, I have often thought about him and his sister since 9/11. This is a testament to the fact that you never really know how many lives you will touch throughout your own and how many people will think of you and remember a kind thought. God Bless the Doany family.

Ramzi, you are like my brother. I can never shake off the memories of you and I in high school, college, as you were the best room mate anyone could have. You always added spice to our lives with your sense of humor, good taste of music, yet mostly your warm and kind heart.

I know you are with Jesus Christ now, a better place to be. But we will miss you til we meet again.

Dear Ramzi,

I have known you as a dear friend to my brothers (Eiad & Rayed) and enjoyed your company when I first met you at Rayed's wedding. You were fun and loving, a sweet man. I only thank God that he has given me the chance to have met a kind hearted man like you if onyl for a very brief period of time. I pray to see you in heaven when we all go home to Jesus our only hope in life.

May the Lord's peace fill your family's heart.

Dear Dowani Family:

With sad strokes on my keyboard I am composing these words trying to come to terms with this crazy world that we never thought killing of human life became so sensless and incomprehensible. Though I never got the chance to meet RamziI got to know his elder brother Ibrahim and his younger brother Kamil in Amman Jordan along with bunch of other buddies who share passion for life adventure, fun, ambitions and mansaf (Jordanian typical dish)

Ramzi is in heaven by his father's side who departed few years before Ramzi. Just as Jesus is by his father's side God Al Mighty.

Now itis just before midnight of Sep. 11 th in Grand Rapids Michigan I witnessed many American and other nationalities in America remeber their loved ones, and saw or read about their determintion to get over their pain and sorrow

I wish you Ibrahim, Kamil, Dina and your wonderful mother faith and strength to see yourselves through these difficult times and a new sunny and shiny side of life in your paths.

To Ramzi,

A year later and it still hurts to think of our loss. While reading these words and thoughts, all sorts of memories came back rushing in. The first time I drove a car in Milwaukee, you were there to freak out when I almost hit a parked car. You were there to try and get me to loosen up. You inroduced me to your friends and became mine as well... you became more than that.

These words are to you, Ramzi. You are my brother now and always... This is the legacy that you leave with us... consideration, love, caring, thoughtfulness, fun loving, live life to the max., be true to yourself... Ramzi... thats what I have gained from you.

We will miss you but only for a while, I will see you soon my friend... in heaven I hope.

All my love to you and your family Aunti Samya, Ibrahim, Dina, and Kamil... they all are living life for you! Until our next meeting...

What a wonderful brother Ramzi was. He was also a wonderful son, uncle, and a loyal friend to many. No words can possibly convey how special he was. His faith in the Lord is such a solace at a time like this. Knowing that he had been reading the bible on the night of September 10th before going to bed gives me some comfort.
May the Lord Jesus bless his soul, and those of all who perished that day with him.

I miss you Ramzi

What can I add to all that has been said about our beloved Ramzi? With my family of four [my wife Amal and our boys, Rafic (19) and Nadim (18)] we make a close-knit family of four highly - and sometimes vociferously - opinionated foursome. Rarely do we agree on anything but to all of us, and without reservation, Ramzi reigned supreme. He captivated our hearts with his noble spirit, his warmth and his love of life. May I be allowed to say that I am proud to have been his loving uncle. May God rest his soul in peace.

I celebrate the life my beautiful cousin Ramzi lived and thank God everyday for having had the chance to visit him in New York, my first trip ever there, in April of 2001. He took my friends and I to the Windows of the World restaurant on the 100th floor of the World Trade Centre and showed us the sight that he loved the most, the sight that never failed to take his breath away: the Panoramic view of New York City. It was magnificent. He was magnificent. I will mourn his passing yet rejoice in having known him: my cousin, Ramzi A. Doany.

My darling cousin Ramzi was a wonderful human being, totally full of fun and innocent mischief. When we were all children together, he always knew how to make us all laugh. I'd always kept a nice memory of him even though we had lost touch for a while. Then we met again a couple of years ago at my brother's wedding, and the years just melted away... it was as if we'd never lost touch at all.

Ramzi, you were so wonderful that you even left a lasting impression on my young children who only met you once at the wedding. They both cried so when they heard...

Rammouz, you and your family are always in our prayers, and you will forever be in our hearts.

We are very sorry for your loss of Ramzi. We thank him for his generous heart in helping others. May his humor, life and love live on in you. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Dear Doany Family,
I was so touched with the death of all the innocent people at the WTC. I then knew that a Jordanian was there, and his name is Ramzi. I felt so bad, and kept watching the news to know what happened to Ramzi. Today is the first time I see Ramzi's picture, and to me it is a shock, I met Ramzi one time in New York by complete coincidence. I am sure that all your Family and friends miss you so much, becuase I miss your nice smile, and lovely spirit.

All my prayers to you Ramzi, and hope your family is doing fine. Tomorrow is the New Year's evening and NEW YORK will miss you.

My cousin Ramzi's death heightened the impact on me of the World Trade Center attack. I had not seen him for many years in Amman, Jordan where we lived, but had learned of his career in the USA from his mother and brother in Amman. I hope that time, the Almighty, and a happy remembrance of Ramzi's life will slowly reduce the strong immediate pain of his loss that they now feel. I know that I personally will work harder for global conditions that foster better interaction among different peoples and nations, as Ramzi exemplified in his own life and work. May his soul rest in peace, and his life inspire us all to work for a better world. - Rami G. Khouri
