Christopher Panatier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2001.
An Adventurous Spirit
Christopher Panatier embraced his spirit of adventure and determination at an early age. At 3, he clambered behind the wheel of his father's 1959 Cadillac and managed to put the car in neutral, said an older sister, Patricia. The car rolled down the family's sloping driveway and into the cul-de-sac, and crashed into the neighbor's bushes.

"I ran to the car, thinking the worst," Ms. Panatier said, "but there he was with a big smile on his face. He was ready to go. He was ready to do it again."

On the eve of a benefit triathlon in Sag Harbor, N.Y., he realized that he had forgotten his bicycle helmet. Instead of skipping the race, he wore his hockey helmet. "It was ridiculously funny," Ms. Panatier said.

Mr. Panatier, 36, of Rockville Centre, N.Y., was a foreign-currency trader for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor of 1 World Trade. He married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, and they had two children, Annie, 6, and Christopher, 4. His ample esprit drew many lifelong friends. "People just gravitated to him," Ms. Panatier said. "He was a great husband and father, which was paramount to him."

My wife and I recently visited New York and toured the Trade Center pools. I ran across your name and found it special because my name is Christopher and my only son's name is Matthew. Today is Sept 11, 2016 and also my wife's birthday. As we sit here and talk about how moved we where on our visit, we want all to know that you and your family are in our prayers on this day.

The McLaughlin Family remembers Christopher on this very somber day. He was Renee and Jim's youngest, the "baby" of the family. Gone far too soon. We will never forget your beloved parents and your wonderful brother, Christopher. Karen McLaughlin Sheehy and family

To The Panatier Family,
Though I only spent a couple of childhood times with Christopher, and the memories are now so distant, our families were intertwined; Renee and Jim were two of my dear mother's (Mary Alice Reilly-McLaughlin) cherished friends. Our family was so very shocked and horrified to learn that sweet Christopher was one of the 9/11 victims. Truly, no one's life has ever been the same, but I know the magnitude of your personal loss is indescribable.
I just wanted to let you know that every year on this day, I go to a memorial at our local fire station and place something on it for Chris. There is a beam from the North Tower way up here in the Northwest corner of CT, at our North end fire dept.
He will NEVER be forgotten by me or my family. We pray for him and all of your family, both here and in Heaven with Chris. Love & Strength to you, Janne P. McLaughlin-Gallagher

I flew down the Hudson yesterday and saw the new Freedom Tower rising on the tip of Manhatten. Brought back all the memories of those horrible days and weeks.

Chris was the guy in elementary school and junior high everybody liked. He was a bundle of energy and leadership always having a good time and always working hard. He set the example for people and was well liked by everybody. God bless you and your family, Chris.

September 18, 2012

We had the distinct priveledge and pleasure of meeting Christopher, his mother, Irene, and other family memebers when our eldest daughter, Jenna, was doing a "family roots" type report for a class at St. John's University. We had a wonderful time meeting our newly found East Coast family. Unfortunately, like everyone else who loved Chris, our time knowing him was way too short. Alas, while short, knowing him at all was wonderful and he, his Mom and his entire family have a very special place in our hearts.

Although I never had the chance to meet Christopher i feel compelled to write in his honor and say to his family i was drawn to his name on the wall at the 911 memorial in NY. I have never forgotten that day or the lives that were taken and every year i have grieved with the rest of the world for the beautiful people that never made it home that day. I have posted a picture of the memorial wall with Christophers name and i am proud to call him my unknown friend.. My heart goes out to you and anyone that had the pleasure to know such a wonderful loving man. Please feel free to visit my facebbok page photo and story if you like. Cynthia Moon Morgan. God Bless

Christopher, I can't even imagine the horrific day that you experienced. The world is filled with so much evil, but just know that you have a wonderful family and 2 beautiful children, especially Annie who I recently saw and she is goregous. I hope you rest in peace and keep watching over all your loved ones.

When I first saw the horrific scenes on the TV in the UK of America on 9/11 I was heart broken. I re watched the footage 10yrs on and its still as unbelievable and heart breaking. 10 yrs ago I looked at the missing list and Christopher stood out from all the others, maybe his lovely smile, and the fact all his friends and family commented on his amazing sense of humour. I hope life has been good to Christopher's family since their horrendous loss, and that their pain, although never gone is becoming more bearable. God bless you and your family. Gone but never forgotten, even by a stranger who's heart was touched by America and their wonderful people on that day.

RIP CHRIS PANATIER

A teammate

February 1, 2010

A great teammate at Stony Brook Ice Hockey. #9 was a pleasure to be around and always kept us laughing, especially on those long road trips.

"Ninja" will be missed.

June 30, 2009

The first time I met Chris was when he was about 3 years old, my brother John and I were riding our bikes down Landview, I was about 5 or 6yo and John was the same age as Chris, we were just past Folger and coming up to Kirby Ct. and here comes this kid rounding the corner on his BigWheel and screaming down the street. He sees us and stops and lends us his Big Wheel to try. John and Chris became fast friends. Chris, John and Tommy L. were truly the classic 3 Musketeer freinds growing up. As they got older, they all went their separate ways. Over the years John crossed paths with Chris a few times. John told me on Sept 12th, that he knew Chris was there and didn't make it out. God Speed Chris!

I worked with Chris back in 1989-90, and have not seen him probably in 14 years. Just today, on the 3rd anniversary of 9/11, did I find out that he passed on this day. Like other guest messages here, I also thought he was incredibly funny, and he was always willing to assist as I started in my new job. Overall great personality and to extent I knew Chris he was a real nice guy. I'll pray that Carolyn and his children will find strength to go on carrying his memory along with them the whole time.

Carolyn,

Every time I have seen both you and Chris it was always at happy events. I now think and pray for you often and can't imagine the magnitude of your pain. My close friend lost her husband in Tower 2 and everyday I try to help her and her 3 little girls get through each day. I know there are no words that can comfort you and make the pain subside. I pray that one day you and your children will have peace in your hearts. I pray God will give you strength to get through each day and you will always feel Chris in your heart and know that he is watching over each of you. May God Bless each one of you.

Today at Leominster High School in Massachusetts, each student was given the name of one of the victims from the 9-11 tragedy. Each name was on a sticker, and the sticker was placed on our identification cards, which are worn around our necks. I had two names; one of those names was Christopher Panatier. All day as I watched the ceremonies on television, I thought about who this Christopher Panatier was. Was he married? Did he have children? What was he doing in the world trade center that day? Until today, I really didn't understand how people felt. Being from Leominster Massachusetts, I didn't know anyone who was lost in the attack. I didn't even know anyone who knew someone who was lost. So, today as I watched the remembrance, I pretended as if I knew this Christopher Panatier. I felt grievance for him and stood in honor of him. Although I will never be able to understand how his family and friends appreciate, remember, and grieve for him, I feel as though a small part of me is with him. I send my prayers to his loved ones, and I hope all your memories of him are pleasant. Representing his name, I think, has helped me understand how large of a tragedy this was, and I will always remember Christopher Panatier not just as a victim, but also as a star on our Great American Flag.

Sincerly, Emily Ferrebee

When an old high school friend wrote to tell me that Christopher Panatier worked for Cantor Fitzgerald I was stunned. My husband and I lost several friends in that office but I hadn't known that a childhood friend of mine had been lost there, too. My memories of Chris are of us being so little and laughing. We went to Vanderbilt Elementary School together. God, we were so innocent and happy then. I remember my mom taking us to the Dix Hills Town Pool after school. I think we were in 2nd grade!I rememeber laughing with him until we couldn't breathe! I, too have had tragedy in my life and I have very few memories of being happy as a child. Chris Panatier was one of those happy memories. He made me laugh and it was so fun just to be around him. I must confess that I remember so few people from elementary school...ALL those years ago. But, the memory of laughing and being silly with Chris is a memory that is forever with me. My prayers go out to him and to his family. May God Bless you all and may He especially watch over Chris' wife and children. The Nation grieves with you and you are not alone in your despair. May time heal your broken hearts. God Bless.

A College Friend From SUNY Stonybrook

August 8, 2002

I hadn't thought about Chris since 1986 when I last saw him at Stonybrook. We weren't real good friends but we lived in the same dorm and attended all the same parties. I remember him as a friendly, funny guy who had a lot of close friends. This may sound strange, but since 9/11, when ever I feel like not trying my best, I think about the future that was stolen from Chris that day, and it inspires me to work harder in every area of my life. Funny, isn't it, a guy I hadn't seen in 16 years now inspires me every day. God bless Chris and his family.

What can I say that would be enough? Chris was more than just a brother-in-law to me. He has been part of the family for so long it's like he was always there. Chris was a great person, a great friend to everyone and just a great guy to be around. Chris will be greatly missed by myself and all who knew him. I hope that Chris can look down at us and have comfort in knowing that his memory will always be kept alive through his family and friends. His children, Annie & Chris, will always know how much he loved them and their Mom, Carolyn and how great a guy he was. We love you and miss you Chris!

Arguably one of the funniest individuals I've ever had the honor and pleasure to call a 'friend'. I could be always be guaranteed a genuinely friendly and warm greeting upon seeing Chris. Within seconds, we'd put on the French-Canadian accents and re-greet each other...and it was just as hysterical each and every time. Spence would then chime in with the the famed french-CDN breakfast order....it would snowball out of control from there. Hysterical.

Their laughter and smiling faces I'll carry with me forever.

May Christopher's spirit of adventure and determination along with his life and love live on through his children and family members. We are very sorry for your loss of Christopher. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I was so sorry to hear that Chris was a victim of the September 11th tragedies. My brother Sean played hockey with him in college and my other brother Rick coached him and I would help out at games, announcing, running the clock, doing the stats. Chris was such a handsome guy and so very nice to everyone. He was also, I must add, a kick-ass hockey player and I'm sure he'll be missed forever by those whom he loved and was loved by and those with whom he shared ice time.
