Ignatius Adanga Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 11, 2001.
Energy and a Helping Hand

Ignatius Udo Adanga was born 62 years ago in Nigeria. As a young man, he left home for Lagos, the capital. He moved on to Liberia and then Germany before migrating to New York some two decades ago.

Mr. Adanga's quest for a better life led him through a series of city and state jobs in housing, probation, children's services and, finally, the planning department of the Metropolitan Transportation Council, at the World Trade Center.

For all that, Mr. Adanga struck those who knew him as energetic rather than restless. He always seemed to have spare time to help family members — his wife, Afiong, and three daughters — friends and co-workers. "Your country or your nativity was immaterial," said McLord Obiora, a friend, at a memorial service early this month.

Judith Wilson, a co-worker for the past year, said Mr. Adanga not only took the time to help her settle in but also became a mentor for her son Kareem, 10, when he learned she was a single parent. "I was always going to him for advice," she said.

To The Family & Friends of Mr. Adanga,

I am so sorry for the loss of such a special person in your life!

Although so much time has passed, the memories of Our Dear Loved Ones is ever so present!

When these tragedies occur we often ask ourselves, why bad things happen to good people?

You can find comfort in knowing, that pain & suffering were never Gods original plan for families.

Soon "His Will" will be done on earth and He will restore peace & security to mankind!
He will not forget your Dear Loved One!
Psalms 37:10 & 11,29
Kind Regards,
Evie

Mr Adanga, you'd be in your 70s now, would you be traveling or relaxing on your patio or deck enjoying retirement. I feel bad you didn't get to enjoy the joys of retirement. Didn't know you sir but I still hurt knowing you were taken so early in life.

I think about all of the victims and Mr Adanga would have been in his 70s and I wonder how he would have been spending his retirement years. May God have you at peace in his Mansion.

To the Adanga family,

May the wonderful memories of your loved one provide solace for you during this difficult time; and may God provide you with the assurance that you will see your loved ones again in Paradise. John 17:3

I work in a school library in Los Angeles and today we remembered the victims of 9/11. As someone of a similar age to myself (now, not 10 years ago) and who was in the WTC while I watched the horror 3000 miles away on TV, I chose Ignatius, with no knowledge of who he was. Now I'm online learning about him. I've been very touched by the story of his life, travels, and generosity. What a remarkable man and what a loss. I will continue to honor his memory in the years to come.

November 13, 2006

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

This is one memory and nightmare

that never grows old, never will be

forgotton by those who had it burned into their minds.

I know I will never forget and it was sort of a wake up call for me to see how fragile freedom really is.

Living in Holland a free country free'd by American, English and many more I realize how fragile.

Rest in peace dear people you will always be remembered by the world..

We are very sorry for your loss of Ignatius. May warm memories of time together lighten the sorrow in your hearts. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
