Edward Perrotta Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2001.
A Grower of the Green
Ever since he was a child, Edward J. Perrotta could make things grow. Money, specifically. And plants.

As an 8-year-old, Eddie lent Laura, his sister, money with interest. Once, he gave her change to buy ice cream in exchange for a 1935 silver dollar she had been given as a baby. (His mother made him return it.)

He started his Wall Street career as a money broker and ended it managing the energy desk at Cantor Fitzgerald.

"He liked to make money, and he was good at it," Laura Perrotta said. "It wasn't so much the amount of money as it was the thrill of acquiring it."

A recently remarried father of two teenagers, Mr. Perrotta, 43, spent his weekends fishing with his brothers, nurturing a shared dream that they would one day catch a 50-pound striped bass.

Mr. Perrotta inherited his mother's love for gardens, doting on the one at his home in Mount Sinai, on Long Island, and the one at her grave, which he would visit every weekend, planting mums in the fall, tulip bulbs in the spring, impatiens in the summer.

"He loved beautiful things," said his wife, Josephine.

You were my neighbor on Carrie Court Smithtown from the time you were 4-5 years old. I remember you looking over the fender of my car as I was doing repair and asking questions about what I was doing. You grew up with my daughters and I watched as you became a beautiful young man. You will always remain in our minds and in our prayers. I just found out about this website today from Bobbie Olario one of your friends on Carrie Court. God bless and keep you.

I KNEW EDWARD AT HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY. I MET HIM ONE DAY DURING THE START OF MY FRESHMAN YEAR. HE SAW ME STANDING THERE LOOKING LOST AND ASKED ME IF I NEEDED ANY HELP. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO TALK TO ME FOR ALMOST 45 MIN TELLING ME WHERE EVERYTHING WAS AND HOW TO FIND IT. FROM THAT TIME ON, ANY TIME I SAW HIM ON CAMPUS, HE'D ALWAYS SMILE AND ASK ME HOW I WAS DOING. HE BECAME MY FRIEND RIGHT THEN AND THERE. THAT WAS THE TYPE OF PERSON HE SHOULD BE REMEMBERED AS: ONE WHO ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND WAS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP WHENEVER AND HOWEVER IT WAS NEEDED. THE WORLD LOST A GREAT HUMAN BEING ON THAT TERRIBLE DAY, ONE THAT WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. IF MORE PEOPLE LIKE EDWARD WERE AROUND TODAY, THE WORLD WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER PLACE. I want to express my deepest sympathies to Eddie's family. I knew Eddie about 20 years ago when we took the LIRR and I'll never forget his kindness when he helped me with my car on a very cold night. He was a very friendly and kind person. I have been out of touch with him for the past ten years and I didn't know he was working at WTC until I saw Newsday's booklet, "Remembering the Lost". Eddie may you rest in peace...your friend forever, Nancy.

I knew Eddie back in Junior High school In Smithtown, even way back then he was a good friend and fun guy to be around. We were pretty good friends back then, but unfortunate for us, we lost touch as the years went on. It wasn't until I read his story in the Newsday did I know that he was a victim and perished. I understand your hurt. My family as well has lost a member to this tragedy. He was a firefighter. So, I wanted to let you know, that my thoughts are with you and of Eddie, as we approach the 1 year anniversary of this terrible day that has effect so many.

Dear Lord Heavenly Father.

Have mercy on those suffering, hurting and in fear, or in anger and give wisdom and strength to those who are assisting. May the forces of evil be broken by your power and may we be humble before you. In the knowledge that you are our strength and in only you we can take refuge. May the Holy Spirit speak to us! Bring us your comfort and peace. Help us reach out to those that have been affected by this tragedy. Glory to the Father and to the son and to the Holy Spirit

We are very sorry for your loss of Edward. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
