Anthony Peluso Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 12, 2001.
A Proudly Silly So-and-So

Whenever Anthony Peluso pulled out the saxophone and played his favorite song, "I've Got the World on a String," his listeners could only nod in agreement. Successful and athletic, good-looking and in love with life, he seemed to have everything — except an attitude.

"He was so gorgeous, but he never strutted around," said his fiancée, Ann Marie. "I couldn't believe it."

Yet the bigger surprise was how silly he could be — making Ann Marie, who can be prim and proper, walk down an up escalator or help him crash a wedding. "We laughed every time we wondered what the newlyweds thought when they saw us on their wedding video, dancing with drinks in our hands," she said in her eulogy.

Mr. Peluso, 46, worked long hours as a construction supervisor for Structure Tone, but he always found time to check on his mother, Lillian Peluso. He was overseeing work at 2 World Trade Center on Sept. 11 — a Tuesday, so he had his sax with him for his weekly music lesson. At his memorial service in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, his teacher, Vincent Della Rocca, played the old standards Mr. Peluso loved, like "My Funny Valentine" and, of course, his favorite:

Life is a beautiful thing,

As long as I hold the string

I'd be a silly so-and-so

If I should ever let it go.

I've got the world on a string . . .

RIP Anthony Peloso. Remember your mom Lillian from visiting her sister on Third Place and from walking along Court Street. Last 7 years or more from working and now retired from Eileen Dugan Amico senior center. Her warm smile and kindness lights up the center when she walks in. We admire her beautiful fashions. I also went to school with Nicholas and Anthony Caputo.

September 12, 2015

As an aunt, grandmother and great grandmother of 3 boys named Anthony Peluso, this really tears at my heart strings. I also had an uncle by marriage named Anthony Peluso. And the only Peluso killed in the Vietnam war was from our hometown of New Castle, PA. May you RIP, dear Anthony.

I knew Anthony ,we both lived in Carroll Gardens. He was a true gentleman (a gentle giant). He played ball in the league I ran for 30 years (C.S.L AT P.S.32'S ) . He,Lou Valentino(IN HEAVEN) and John DeMonte were the 3 best centerfielder's to ever play on that field. He was not only a great ballplayer ,he was a great person whom was loved by all of us.You are truly missed. Rest in peace. you will never be forgotten my friend.

I just found out from a connection on facebook about Anthony. He wasnt 100% sure but I googled it and I found out I lived 2 doors down from Anthonys cousins on 3rd Place. I lived at 102 and they lived at 98 3rd place. We all played ball and hung out when we were young. Nicholas & Anthony Caputo and Anthony Peluso all played ball in the neighborhood. Boy was he fast. We use to have races all the time with Louis Rauso and I and his cousins. I remember your sister Frances and your mom. I believe your mom Lillian and Tessie Caputo are sisters. I am so sorry. I hope and pray as we approach the 10 yr anniversary all his family and friends find peace.

RIP MY FRIEND

September 11, 2010

Im writing this message to Anthony from my husband. He was a childhood friend of his in Red Hook Brooklyn. They went to St Mary's Star of the Sea together. My husband remembers Anthony as always being happy and upbeat. He just wanted to write a few lines to remind himself of how lucky he was to have kown Anthony. God Bless you always. Heaven is a better place. Rest in Peace.

February 26, 2009

My son's name is Anthony Peluso, and on the first anniversary of 9/11 while watching the CNN telecast, I noticed on the tickertape on the bottom of the screen my son's name and I stopped what I was doing and listened to the comments by the announcer, this was my first knowledge of Anthony Peluso, 9/11 victim. It was an erie feeling for me to see my sons name going across the screen on the day of remberance. A couple of years later, when my Husband and I had travelled to NYC, we went to the site to pay our respects and there was a chain link fence around the area, and on that fence was a black banner, and on that black banner were all the names of the victims, both my Husband and I looked up at that banner and we both saw the name, Anthony Peluso. This banner was pretty long and for us to be standing and looking up at our sons name was a strange coincidence, although we are not related the events have caused me to believe that there was a reason for me to know of him. I can only hope in my heart that he is resting in peace and watching over his family, and anyone else that had the honour of knowing him.

I came across Anthony's name at Ground Zero when my husband and I visited New York, in October 2002. Even though I did not know Anthony, just the fact that we share the same last name gives me a connection to him. May God keep him close to him.

I DID NOT KNOW ANTHONY ONLY OF HIM. I WORKED WITH HIS MOM OVER 25 YEARS AGO IN A BANK IN MANHATTAN, AND WHAT I REMEMBER MOST ABOUT LILLIAN WAS HER DEVOTION TO HER CHILDREN. FROM HER TALKING ABOUT THEM ALL THE TIME I FELT LIKE I KNEW THEM. BEING A MOTHER OF 5 MYSELF NOW I CAN UNDERSTAND HER FEELINGS ABOUT HER CHILDREN. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE ANTHONY, AND TO LILLIAN AND HER CHILDREN MAY YOU FIND PEACE AND COMFORT IN EACHOTHER. I AM SO VERY SORRY FOR YOU LOSS.

I was a childhood friend of Anthony's growing up in Red Hook. We used to play punchball on clinton street with a few of his cousins and my friends on a team we named "The Roadrunners". The year was about 1965. I knew Anthony about 10 years after that and every time he'd see me he say "Hey Angelo, Remember the Roadrunners?" and we would laugh. While working as a VP for CSFB at the beginning in 2001 I attended a project meeting and who is across the table but Anthony. I had not seen him in about 25 years His eyes lit up. We talked later and he had this big smile that I always remembered as a kid. He said "Remember the Roadrunners?" After that we worked on several project's together including 1 Madison Ave. We had just finished a complete reconstruction of one of many floors and I went to visit the site for inspection. As I walk in, about 40 feet from me is Anthony with his arms out and that big smile. He had his arms with his head shaking up and down as if to say "look at this thing of beauty". Some one called to him and he stepped away. That was about two days before that horrible day and the last time I saw him. It broke my heart when this happened and all I remember is Anthony with his arms out and that big smile. It is embeded in my head like it was yesterday. My sympathy to all of his family, Anthony C, Joey, etc. I miss ya Anthony, "Remember The Roadrunners!"

I am so lucky to have been blessed with such a wonderful and caring uncle. My mom (your sister Frances) loves you so much, and you went out of your way to care about her, my dad, me, Nicole, Ralph, & Stephen. I'll never forget playing baseball with you outside, you giving me my first Police CD when you heard I loved their songs, and how you used to try to make me laugh at the dinner table. You are the most wonderful uncle I could ever ask for and we miss and love you so much. I know you are watching over us here, especially mommy. We love you.

I met Anthony in Carroll Gardens, where we played for the Pirates in the league at PS 32. Anthony was like a gazelle in center field lean and muscular, clearly the best player on the field. As years went on we played on many teams together and he was a great teammate and friend. I don't know why I waited till now to write on this page, but since I have I will echo some of the sentiments already noted. He was funny , kind and always had a positive word for me. The world is lesser place without him. I know he is playing softball in heaven with Firefighter Lou Valentino who passed a few years earlier in the line of duty. Heaven has some middle of the order!

I just wanted to remember Anthony on the anniversary of 9/11, 3 years later. I worked with Anthony at one of the jobsites. Anthony use to live upstairs from us on Second Place. He was soooo funny. When we were kids, he would come down to our apartment, my brother Joe, Anthony and I would turn our bunk beds into a tent. It would be dark under there and we would try to scare each other. My father would sneak in the room and scare the pants off of us - it was hilarious. To Lily: You were a great mother to Anthony and as a mother myself - My heart is breaking for you. To Frances, Gabe, and Camille - It's been a long time and again my sincerest condolences - LuAnn Pellegrino

My prayers are with his family and Ann Marie.

To the Love of My Life

What a love affair we had! You promised you would never leave me, but fate had other plans for us. You've always been a part of me and now you live in my heart. If I concentrate really hard, I can hear you play your saxaphone. What a sweet sound you had.

So on this silent night,

I call your name and suddenly

All time and space between us disappear.

I see your face in firelight.

I hold you close in memory

And even though I know you're gone,

I know you're here.

As sure as there's snowfall in December,

Your love lives on in everything.

Summer, Winter, Fall or Spring

Every thought of you will bring us closer.

Until we meet again, my Darling...

I knew Anthony many years ago (I grew up in Carroll Gardens, as well). Years after (in about 1996) I was working at the Chrysler Building and Anthony was working at a site across the street. We chatted for a while, caught up with what was happening in each other lives. He was always so positive, so optimistic. I had a feeling many months ago that this was indeed the Anthony that I had know, however, until today I never saw a picture. Now I know for sure, it is him. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I am also a Peluso, and the same age as Anthony. I grew up near Boston. My heart goes out to Anthony's family and to his beloved Ann Marie. With all the prayers that went with all those souls on that terrible day, I have no doubt that they are all in God's Heaven. Mother Teresa said that we are all made to go back to Heaven, for that is our true home...and there in Heaven your Anthony has found joy and he will be there waiting for all of you who love him. Take comfort in knowing that you will see him again and that you are blessed to have had him touch your lives..and he still does...love never ends. I will keep this "brother" of mine who shares my family name, in my prayers from this day forward. May God grant him mercy, and bring you His peace. God Bless you. Janet Peluso Page

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
