Jesus Cabezas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 17, 2001.
Stone Face, Warm Heart
Jesus N. Cabezas was full of whimsy and scrappiness. At his daughter's wedding, he cast his chiseled Ecuadorean features into a stone-faced glare as he posed for a picture. "He called it his picture face," said his daughter, Blanca I. Bowers, laughing. "You'll see a lot of pictures of him looking really serious. But if you know him you laugh, because he's just being silly."

Mr. Cabezas, 66, of Bushwick, Brooklyn, a cook at Windows on the World, was full of fight even though he was only 5 feet 5 inches tall and 150 pounds. Thirteen years ago, he won a battle with colon cancer. Another time, he arrived home holding a knife that he had taken from a mugger during a struggle, Mrs. Bowers recalled. Mischievously, he expressed regret for not being able to return it. " 'He ran away before I could give it back,' " she recalled him saying.

"He could have killed you," his wife yelled.

"He's not going to waste his time on me," he told her. "Don't worry. I'm going to be here for a long time."

I never met Jesus, and it looks like he would have been someone I really liked, from all of the nice comments about him. I am pausing today to say a prayer for his family and ask that they be blessed in a special way, and know that Jesus is still touching the lives of many others. Much love from Texas,

I was looking for my friends Dad, a waiter at Windows on the World and stumbled upon Mr Cabezas. I can't believe it's another year.On some years it feels like a another lifetime some years it feels like yesterday . This is not the end. Christ promised us that. For anyone who believes in Christ , the son of God, we'll all be together again some day. So sorry for your loss. Your father was an awesome man. Sincerely, Rae N.J 2018

To the Cabeza family:

My mom and dad rented an apartment from your dad on St. Nicholas Avenue and Dekalb Avenue. I don't know if you will remember me, but with the next September 11 anniversary coming up, I wanted to express my sincerest sympathies on your loss. He was a good man and you must keep the good memories of him close to your hearts.

Dear Cabeza family,

My name is Maggie and I went to High School with Vicky. I was so shocked and saddened to see your Dad listed here. I remember meeting him at Vicky's Sweet 16 party. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Vicky, if you're reading this please send me an email. I'm sorry we lost touch. I recently have become in touch with Matt from Clover and we'd love to see you again! God Bless you and your family.

I just "stumbled" into this website and my heart just went out to you for your loss. 9/11 may seem like a long time ago to most, but I'm sure your pain at times is very near. Maybe it was his name "Jesus" that caught my eye because Jesus Christ, our Lord, knows you and loves you.

Hi my Name is Alyssa Palomo, I attend St. Pius X High School and for the week of 9/11 our school and St. Agnes High School are wearing wrist bands with the name of a person who died on 9/11. I have Mr. Cabezas' name on my wrist as I'm writing this. I just wanted to let you know that my family and I are praying for your loss as well as the faculty, staff, and students of SPX.

When I first learned about the terrible news from my brother who saw one of his daughters on television looking him, I immediately feared the worst. I met Mr. Cabezas many years ago when I rented a ground floor apartment from him on St. Nicholas Avenue. His son-in-law Bryan was a very good friend of mine and I always found the Cabeza family to be very good people. It's my hope that God brings to your family the strength and such a profound and tremendous lost.

God Bless.

To the Cabezas family. I did not knew Mr Cabezas o any member of his family, but i know the pain and sorrow that you are going thru, I lost my son the same day, he was a fire fighter, his name Sergio Villanueva, he was born in Argentina, and like other members of that company, answer the call that day, he was not found yet. May God bless your family, and give you peace in your heart, my prayers are with all of you. Delia Villanueva

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Jesus. May his life and love (and sometimes his picture face) live on in you. May the sorrow in your hearts be lightened by warm memories of times together. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
