Robert Kennedy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 17, 2001.
A Proud Father

Robert C. Kennedy loved to laugh, mostly at silly things. His laugh was so huge and his face grew so red that people sometimes worried he was having a heart attack. "When we were younger," said his daughter Meredith Andrews, "we were so embarrassed." But Mr. Kennedy was also the father who made her and her older sister, Catherine Miller, feel like women rather than girls. "He was proud of our relationship and the fact that he was able to teach us so young that you can be friends with your parents," Ms. Miller said.

"His daughters were his hope," Maureen Kennedy, his wife of 32 years, said. "He took them to work before it was the thing to do." He was also a quiet, steady mentor to women at Marsh & McLennan, where he worked.

Mr. Kennedy, who was 55 and lived in Toms River, N.J., was also a tease. "He loved his view from the World Trade Center," Mrs. Kennedy said. "He would tease that he could see Pennsylvania on a clear day. When we drove to Staten Island, he'd look back across the bridge and say he had left the lights on in his office."

While I didn't know Bob, I have tried to honor his memory by placing American flags beside his memorial bench in Winston-Salem, NC. Read Scott Sexton's September 14, 2021 article in the Winston-Salem Journal (journalnow.com and search "Scott Sexton a reminder of the cost") for more. I'd love to find out who is responsible for Bob having a memorial bench on the Shaffner Park walking trail. Many thanks to him or her.

I often walk the walking course beside Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem, NC. I always see the bench dedicated to Robert C. Kennedy and am always struck by it. Thank you for these tributes.

Bobby is always on our minds especially today. I talked to him almost everyday when I worked in Albany, NY. I'd walk across the memorial bridge and stopped at the brick we had dedicated to him and chat. Even though we are retired and in South Carolina, I still talk to him.

Our thoughts are with you and yours.

To Mr. Kennedy's family and friends,

I just want you to know that I will be wearing my Mercy Band, which is engraved with your loved one's name, throughout the day and night of Sept. 11, 2007. I intend to do this every Sept. 11 for the rest of my life. I am still praying for you, and I always will. He will never be forgotten.

Yours in Christ,

Karen Oliver

I just saw a bench off of Silas Creek Pkwy in Winston-Salem at a walking park with Mr Kennedy's name on it and wanted to let you know some of us haven't forgotten and never will. God bless your family and so sorry for your loss.

I had the privilege of working with Bob Kennedy at Marsh from 1987 to 1996. He had an endearing personality and was quite funny. I considered him a dear friend. We had a great working relationship which made it difficult to move on in my career in 1996. My family and I speak of him often and remember him fondly.

Bob... We will see you in paradise.

Shortly after September 11, 2001, I wanted some way to honor a victim of the terrorist attacks. I bought a sterling silver bracelet engraved with the name of one of the WTC victims. The name engraved on the very bracelet I have worn all day today is Robert C. Kennedy. Although I never met him, I have read tributes from his wife, daughters, friends and family. I love it that he had a sense of humor as my dad does too. I want his family and friends to know that he is NOT forgotten. I prayed for his soul and his family today. I am so sorry for your loss.

I have the daunting task of paying tribute to Robert C. Kennedy on the 5th year anniversary of 9/11... how do I do this man justice? The love, admiration and appreciation that exudes from every tribute I find on him brings me to tears. He was obviously a wonderful man and I hope I can find the words to say what my heart feels. God Bless his wife, daughters and their families.

To Bob's family,

I didn't know Bob, but my twin sister Dorothy Mauro worked with Bob. She often talked about your husband/father. He was the only co-worker she ever mentioned. She also perished on 9/11. My prayers are with you all as I always pray for all the lost souls of 9/11.

I, just like Justin am also a college friend of Meredith and he actually told me of the news about her father.

Meredith, I am so sorry for your loss and although I have lost touch with you I always think of you each time the WTC tragedy is mentioned.

God Bless you and your family!

I'm an old college friend of Robert's daughter, Meredith, and I'd heard a few weeks after 9/11 that she'd lost her father that day and I felt awful. I lost touch with her though and had no way to reach her, but fortunately CNN.com linked this page. I still have nightmares about that day, and despite my not having relatives involved, just having known someone who lost someone there hurts.

Meredith, you are the sweetest, and I am so, SO sorry for your loss if you read this. I'm sure this is something you've heard many times, but just be the strong person you are, especially today. You're in my thoughts.

May all who leave notes here know that we, Bob's family, read them and are touched by your caring and love. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

I miss you so much Dad. It feels like just yesterday that I spoke to you and hugged you.

We are so lucky, as I know my regrets are only for the future and not for the past. We said all there was to say. We love you and you love us. I know you watch over us and we will see you again.

I was very greatful to click on to Legacy.com since I've been thinking of Robert Kennedy as I stitched his name on the World Trade Center square to be joined with others in the memorial flag.

It afforded me the opportunity to feel as though I knew this fine man. My heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.

As former co-workers of Maureen's we had the great good privelege of knowing two peole who were truly "love personified". I will remember always Bob's good humor, and how he happy he and his lovely Maureen were on 9/6/69, their wedding day! May God continue to grant consolation and strength to the Bob Kennedy family. May his soul and all the souls of the Faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen

Always,

Father we entrust our brother Robert to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.

A few years ago my sister Elizabeth worked with Bob at the Avenue of the Americas Marsh location. She thought highly of him and enjoyed working with him. I'd talk to him on occasion when I'd go visit my sister at Marsh. Till this day we still talk about how nice Mr. Kennedy was and how much he's missed. Our condolences go out to his wife and daughters.

When we lived in Brick Town, Bob always greeted us, the "new kids on the block", with his warm smile. He was a good neighbor, obviously a family man, and his memory will stay alive to everyone who was fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Our condolences go out to his wife, Maureen, and their two daughters.

We are very sorry for your loss of Bob. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
