Kathleen Burns Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 18, 2001.
Travels Led to Home
Kathleen A. Burns was born in Staten Island, where she lived with her parents for most of her life, in a nice home in a quiet, middle-class neighborhood.

If the upstairs light was on, Ms. Burns, 48, was probably reading a book. She never took work home. "Work was work and home was home," said her mother, Eunice.

Still, Ms. Burns climbed high in the corporate world, to the upper floors of the World Trade Center, where she was a vice president with the Fiduciary Trust International.

She was good to her parents, they said. The three watched television together in the evenings and the women went shopping. "She liked high-end things like Ann Taylor," her mother said.

Of course her life was more than work and home and shopping, her mother said. She had an interest in the wider world, and toured places like Egypt, Spain and Iceland.

On September 11th, 2011 10 years after that tragic day I went to the Rascall Flatts concert here in Albuquerque, NM. As the thousands of fans rolled into the pavillion several volunteers were passing out tiny strips of paper and pieces of chalk each with a victim name from 9-11. I had the honor and the privlage of writing and remember Kathleen Anne Burns I wrote her name everywhere. I am so sorry for the loss and hope that one day justice will be served for all of those that fell on that awful day

Dear Ms. Burns, I wish I had your courage. I am around your age, living at my childhood home with my parents. I'm not brave enough to travel like you. My mother is the traveler. Her name is Kathleen. God bless you, and may your journeys be boundless.

Today is the 10th anniversary of 9/11. I just ran a 5K race in Sacramento, CA in honor of those who died. At the end of the race, runners placed a flag next to a name plate of everyone that perished that day. I placed my flag next to Kathleen's name. May God bless you and your family.

Kathleen was an inspiration to my daughter and I when we visited Manhattan and stayed with her Aunt Shirley. Shirley proudly pointed out the WTC where Kathy worked and I'll never forget her words: "She truly made something of herself and I'm so glad to have her as my niece."

With our profound sadness we express our condolences to the family of Eunice Burns. My mother who is Eunice's cousin keeps Kathy's picture and tribute on her refrigerator and we often read it and realize what an outstanding individual and bright/friendly woman Kathy was. May we always remember her life with joy.

With Our Love,

Laura, William, Erica and Joseph Dague

Kathy:

I have been searching for a fitting tribute to you for some time. Both children of the sixties, I know you will appreciate this. The song is from the Seekers and is called

"I'll Never Find Another You"

There's a new world somewhere

They call The Promised Land

And I'll be there some day

If you will hold my hand

I still need you there beside me

No matter what I do

For I know I'll never find another you

There is always someone

For each of us they say

And you'll be my someone

For ever and a day

I could search the whole world over

Until my life is through

But I know I'll never find another you

It's a long, long journey

So stay by my side

When I walk through the storm

You'll be my guide, be my guide

If they gave me a fortune

My treasure would be small

I could lose it all tomorrow

And never mind at all

But if I should lose your love, dear

I don't know what I'll do

For I know I'll never find another you

It was five of us in Fiduciary Trust Lotus Notes group: Kathy, Abner Morales, Igor Zukelman, Kelly Wilterding and me.

Three out of five, Kathy, Abner and Igor, never made it out of the WTC Tower 2.

Kathy was a very special person for our small group.

She was our manager, our leader, our friend, our partner and our shield from everything that was going down on us.

She used to do same work as all of us, no matter big or small and beside that she handled all the communication with high management, making sure that her people get proper attention for the work they do.

She was smart and sharp, and you wouldn’t want to be a target of her irony, but if she trusted you, there couldn’t be more dependable person on your side.

From the first day of my work with Kathy I felt like I pulled a winning ticket.

She knew how to make us productive and at the same time happy of what we were doing.

Me , her and Abner, we were almost always together (Kelly & Igor joined our team approximately a year before September 11).

We were together that day walking down the stairs from floor 97 to 78.

She stopped for a second and said “I can’t believe, that I have to walk by this stairs again “.

She was walking this way with Abner during the WTC bombing in 1993.

On the way to 78 I was separated from them by strange chain of events.

They’ve got to that floor before me, but I am the one who survived.

I will never forget ...

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Kathleen. May her life and love live on in those who love her. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Kathleen was such a classy person. Always dressed beautifully, smiling and willing to help others at a moments notice. She also had a great sense of humor. My prayers go out to your family and friends.
