Lucy Crifasi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 19, 2001.
To Be So Loved
Everybody loved Lucy.

And why not? Lucy Crifasi was the kind of woman who always seemed to have a big smile and time to solve somebody else's problems. That's basically what she did as an American Express travel coordinator assigned to the Marsh & McLennan offices in the World Trade Center.

Ms. Crifasi, 51, took care of family and friends as well. In recent months, she took off one day a week to spend more time with her 85-year-old mother, with whom she lived in Glendale, Queens.

She loved to travel, and over the last few years she took her brother, Frank, to London and Antigua. The day after school ended last year she took her sister, Maria, a Roman Catholic school principal, to the Caribbean.

"She didn't like going away in the summer because it was too hot, but it was the only time I could go," Ms. Crifasi said. "She knew how stressed out I was."

The Crifasi family came to New York from Sicily in 1958. Last year, the whole family went back to visit Montevago, their hometown. Then the two sisters took a side trip to Rome, where they said the rosary with the pope and toured the city. "She made everybody feel very, very special," said Ms. Crifasi.

Lucy Crifasi was known for her devotion to the singer Julio Iglesias and for her classy sense of fashion. "Lucy only had two vices," said her brother, Frank. "Shoes and pocketbooks."

Today I was contacting the 911 memorial to possibly donate something and up popped Lucia out of the blue
So, on this the 23rd anniversary I honor her memory as I think of all the victims. My friend died at Pentagon. May you find comfort in the fact that she lived her life fully and still to this day there are countless people like me who although we didn't know them personally, will never forget
those who were lost.

Thinking of your family and many friends today. It is obvious that you were a great person and well-loved and sorely missed. We will never forget that tragic day in American history. Much love from Texas

20 years have passed and as I watch your name announced at the Memorial in NYC on TV, it seems not so long ago that we have lost you. We know that you are watching over us and that you are now with your mom and dad, and your cousins and my parents, Vito and Saba, as they watch over us too. Rest in peace, cousin. Until we meet again, Cousin Linda

R.I.P. LUCIA ‘LUCY’ CRIFASI 1950-9-11-2001:

Lucy Crifasi was an every day hero. She was like a second mother to me, during the 8 years we worked together at American Express Travel.

Lucy was one of the most positive and smartest people l had ever known. She had a beautiful soul, and a hugely generous heart.

She had a wonderful sense of humor, with a laugh and smile that would light up a room.

She loved to help others and always made the time to talk with you, when you needed her wisdom and her advice.

She loved to sing. She was a huge Julio Iglesias and Celine Dion fan. She would actually travel to the various cities that Julio and Celine were touring to see them in concert.

Lucy Crifasi, was more than a dear friend and coworker, she was family.

She is loved, thought of and missed, every single day.

She will forever be my: “Lucia in the Sky With Diamonds.”

God Bless and God Speed

My dear friend, Lucy,
Tomorrow, the 20th 9/11 Memorial Anniversary I am honored to be chosen as one of the readers to read the names of the victims. I was hoping that I'll be reading your name but not so lucky. It has been 2 decades you were gone but you are always remembered all those years. NEVER TO FORGET. You are an irreplaceable friend I ever have. So many lives moved on but your happy memories lingers with us. My niece who had been to your house as a kid is vacationing in Greece this week and it made me smile because it brings back happy memories we made during out LAST TRIP together in the spring of 2001, also in Greece. Thank you for the memories, my dearest friend. Just the thoughts of you makes me smile. I still really MISS YOU.
ALWAYS IN MY PRAYER,

It's been 19 years you've gone but it seems only .yesterday. Lucy I missed Your name this morning on TV, I over slept. You"re probably thinking that it sounds like me, right. This year it was quite different, the names were read in tape which made them pass faster. No excuse, right Lucy

I remember Lucy as a cherished member of our family as I was growing up. She had been a student of my father - Joseph Biancavilla - and worked along side him for years at Jolly Travel Service. Lucy would sometimes join us for Sunday dinner and was always fun to be around. My Dad passed in 1981 and unfortunately we lost touch with Lucy and her family. But to this day, she's still remembered as part of a happy time in our family.

To the Crifasi Family
I am a distant cousin on the Gioacchino (Jack) Crifasi side. I'm not sure exactly how we are related but we visited the Eleven Tears memorial last weekend. It was my daughter's first trip to NYC. Learning about Lucia and how wonderful she was made our trip very moving. I wish I could have known her. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My friend Lucy,
Can't believe it's now 15 years we lost you but it seems it was just few years ago. Maybe because you are always in my thoughts and see your photo every morning. You still pop out in my dreams and I see that mischievous smile of yours. I moved to a new place and as I was unpacking my photo albums I came across our photos of our vacation in Greece in the spring of 2001, our last trip together. It made me tear up cuz I I really, really miss your friendship, and at times made me smile cuz it reminds me of our funny times together. Always say a prayer for you.

I visited Lucy's family in October 2001, for the American Red Cross, and I was so moved by the stories they told about her life, and what that irreplaceable loss meant to their own lives. I think of her, honor her, and her family.

In my hometown of North Tonawanda NY, my family participated in a memorial service for the victims of 9-11. There were 3,000 flags placed to honor the memory of the thousands of people who lost their lives on that terrible day. We selected at random a flag to sponsor and that flag was dedicated to Lucy Crifasi. We are grateful for the opportunity to know a little more about this wonderful woman. It is no surprise to me that we found her and that she has found us since our son is facing a difficult time with an eye disease and I have been praying to Saint Lucy for her intervention in finding a cure. I believe in hope and fate and I just know that Lucy Crifasi is helping Santa Lucia in providing a cure for my son. God Bless everyone who knew and loved Lucy Crifasi.

Glad to spend your birthday with your sister and brother at the 9/11 Memorial Museum today. Said a prayer for you. Some scenes upsets me but once I saw your pictures with your family and co workers it made me smile. It all brings back a happy memories.

May 27, 2014

May 27, 2014 - today is yourbirthday; I smile at the thought of you when you used to "brag" that everytime you celebrate your birthday the whole nation declares a holiday: because it's either falls on Memorial Day or a day before or after the holiday weekend.
Today I'm going to meet your brother and sister at the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Sure, it will be mixed emotions to see the place for the first time but whatever it is I'll be there to pay my respect and celebrate your special day with your love ones. I always say, "every birthday is a blessing" cuz we never know what life ahead of us so my dear friend Lucy, enjoy your day up in Heaven and Have a Good Day!
Still misses you.

I never knew Ms. Lucy, but I'm writing a paper about her for language arts. At first it was just a paper, the same as all the other papers I did, but I made it personal. I got to know Ms. Lucy, I learned about her love of Julio Iglesias, pocketbooks, and shoes. I chose to write a paper on her because she really stood out to me. I sincerely apologize for your loss.

October 1, 2012

Hi Lu, as you know I couldn't make it down there on 9/11 to pay my respects, but I guess you know why. People keep telling me that St. Lucy is the patriarch saint for the eyes. What happened that day, you took a day off?
I wish I could hear your comeback for that one.
I miss so much My Dear Sister that sometimes I'm physically in pain.

I worked with Lucy at American Express on the Avon account for a few years. We had so many laughs together and I felt I could confide in her about anything. When I left, she gave me a little Precious Moment figurine titled, "Who's Going To Fill Your Shoes?" Ironically, those words are so fitting for someone who made such an impact on me. Lucy was truly one of a kind.

"Aunt" Lucy....this is always how I refer to you these days, you and Maria are the closest I have to Aunts. Saying you were friends would not be enough to describe the love we share.
My best memories of you are you kissing me so loudly in my ears that they would ring and you hugging me so tightly. As a little girl I remember New Year's playing tombola with Aunt Fasi and always laughing, and still today those memories are so fond. Please take care of Aunt Fasi and look over Maria and Frankie, they miss you terribly, as do my mother and father, my brother and I. My only wish is that you could have met my 2 little boys, you would have loved them so much.
Forever you will live in my heart, I think of you so often and the happiness you brought to our family will never be forgotten. We all love you so much......Aunt Lucy.....

It's about 4 years now and I am still missing you a LOT and I still struggle feeling the void in my heart of not having you around; someone to call to share my ups and down; I miss your giggles...your mischiffs...But waking up in the morning when you appear in my dreams the night before gives me a BIG smile and I know your spirit is always with me. Dearest Lucy:

Our childhood friendship remained throughout adulthood. I remember when you first came from Italy and our teacher, Mrs. Brucia, sat you next to me at P.S. 53. You were always a wonderful friend and a beautiful person. Words cannot express the shock and grief that overcame me when I read your name as one of the victims of the 9/11 attack. I called Frank and Maria, hoping it was a mistake. I think of you every day and my husband and children know your name well. Love to you in heaven...till we meet again... Love, Anna Rose

I am a student at St. Frances Cabrini School, where Maria Crifasi is the principle, Lucy'sister. When this happened we prayed for Lucy and we had a mass to honor her and all the other people that died.

I don't know where to begin. How do you describe a person as warm and caring as Lucia. We road side by side on the QM24 bus. Lucy was always tired. I would let her sleep and wake her before it was time to get off. We would talk about her family, traveling and cooking. I travel often as did Lucy we talked about familar places and the love of flying. I will never forget her and she will live forever in my heart. I want her family to know that she was the most caring individual that I had ever met. Remember her smiles and kindness. Her love was overflowing and is one I shall never forget.

Lucy was one of my best friends at Bushwick High School. Her sister, Maria, was also my friend. They loved Gianni Morandi...went crazy over him..I remember that. My husband and I met Lucy again in 1987 for our high school reunion. She had told us she was in a bad car accident and was recovering. She looked so happy to see us and I to see her. I will never forget her. She was a very caring friend. I also lost my father, Donato Forlenza, on Sept. 5th, 2001, six days before 9/11. Our deepest sympathy to Maria & Famiglia.

It's been more than a year since your loving family, relatives and friends lost you. My sister, Marilyn, missed you a lot. I hope happy memories ease their pain. You're in my prayers everyday. May God bless you and your family.

The first time I saw your beautiful smile was right after September 11th 2001, I had just gotten off the subway on 50th Street and Broadway, and then a few days later at St. Vincents Hospital. Your brillant smile stands out among all the photos that was up on the wall, and I remember thinking that you are close to my mom's age. I remember looking at your face and hoping to GOD that you will be found. I will always keep you and your family in my prayers. I hope that your family have found peace and love. We will never forget your beautiful smile. I am glad I found this site to learn all about you. You are a wonderful person.

I never knew Lucy but I do remember her sister mentioning her, Ms. Maria Crifasi was my 7th grade teacher at St.Frances Cabrini school

many years ago. If Lucy was anything like her sister she must have been a great person with a big heart. My prayers go out to the Crifasi famaily. May God bless you and give you strength.

Dear Lucy,

Being at Ground Zero yesterday was a painful reminder of that tragic day that took your life a year ago, but we want to be there to feel you close to us. It was a very sad day and especially painful for your mom, your sister Maria, your brother Frank and cousin Don Giuseppe who came across the Ocean to celebrate your memorial Mass at St. Joseph Church in Brooklyn. In Ground Zero where you and so many people lost your lives we prayed for your eternal rest.

Dear Lucy you are now part of the Universe and a brilliant star that you're. When we look up at the sky and we see a shining star we know that is you Lucy smiling down at us.

You are always in our hearts and prayers; we will never forget 9/11.

May you rest in peace.

Your friends: Vita, Gilda, and Nancy.
