Shashi Kadaba Obituary

A Penchant for Charity
Indian weddings are often extravagant affairs that can last as long as a week. So friends and family of Shashi Kiran Kadaba were taken aback when he and his fiancŽe decided to have a modest wedding, donating whatever money they saved to orphanages in their hometown, Bangalore, in southern India. "He was that kind of person, the kind of guy who would wait before everyone got out before leaving a burning building," said his fiance, Pushpa Sreenath, 26, who drove 30 hours to New York from Texas as soon as she learned about the World Trade Center collapse.

Mr. Kadaba, 26, a software designer for an Indian company, had recently come to New York to do consulting work for Marsh USA, whose offices were on the 97th floor of 1 World Trade Center. Ms. Sreenath, also a software designer, said her fiancŽ was taken with tennis, Formula One racing and big, brash Bollywood movies.

"He was very energetic and skilled at making people laugh," she said. Since 1996, the couple has been largely separated by half a world, although they always remained in communication through phone calls and e-mail messages. "It was hard, but not impossible because I knew I would see him again," she said. "This is different."

A lady in Albuquerque designed a "Mercy Band" in memory of the "9-11" victims. Each "Mercy Band" has the name of the person killed in "9-11" tragedy. I ordered one to show my support and concern for the "9-11" victims. My "Mercy Band"has the name of KADABA SHASHIKIRAN on it.I received it just before Christmas. When we got ready to trim our Christmas tree, I hung my "Mercy Band" on our Christmas tree as a reminder to all of us of how lucky we are to have life. I even let my grandchildren wear this "Mercy Band" as a tribute to this persons life. It wasn't until recently that I learned more about this person on my "Mercy Band". On 9-11-02 I wore my "Mercy Band" to work (I work for a doctor). My patient noticed what I was wearing and asked to see it. I explained to her the history of the "Mercy Band". Later she went home to read the Wallstreet Journal and found in their the name of the person on my "Mercy Band". She called me immediately to tell me that the last name was KADABA. I then begun searching for more information about this person. I finally found this nice article on legacy.com regard the name of the person on my "Mercy Band". I was elated to finally put a face with the name on the "band". After reading the article, I was touched with the kind heart that he apparently had, donating money to orphanages in Bangalore. I definitely will wear this "Mercy Band" with more pride now knowing more of the person on my "band". I pray for peace for this Nation and World...and especially for the family of Shashi.

Death is never easy, I just want you to know that others do care. God Bless you all.

We are very sorry for your loss of Shashi. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
