Alexander Braginsky Obituary
You could set your watch by Alex Braginsky. And woe to the boss or relative who let dust accumulate on their computer screens: they got scolded. Having moved to Queens from the Soviet Union in 1979 with virtually nothing, he felt anyone fortunate enough to have state-of-the-art computers had better take care of them.
Mr. Braginsky, 38, was a man who picked up his shirts at the dry cleaner and, before going to work at Reuters, re-ironed them if he noticed wrinkles. A perfectionist but not a prima donna, he would pull over to help if he passed a motorist with car trouble. When he traveled in Europe with his girlfriend, complete strangers would stop him on the street and ask for directions: even in foreign countries, he projected the savoir-faire of a fellow who knew where he was headed.
He rode a motorcycle and filled his kitchen in Stamford, Conn., with topnotch cookware. "A three hundred dollar set of knives," marveled his mother, Nelly. "I'd tell him, for that much, a knife should work by itself. When Alex cooked, it was like art on your plate." He was doing a colleague a favor and filling in at a meeting at Windows on the World on Sept. 11th.

I have a memorial bracelet with Alexander's name on it that I purchased shortly after the 9/11 attack. It was chosen at random for me, but I wear it in remembrance of this man I have never met.

I was also remembering Alex today and found this post. I worked with Alex at Reuters in Palo Alto. I'd only had the pleasure of knowing Alex for around 3months before he was sadly taken from us but he leaves a lasting memory. Smart, humble with a great personality to match.

September 11, 2001 is one of the saddest days in U.S. history. Our only hope is that one day the earth will be a peaceful paradise, and that hope rests with God himself.God's Word speaks about how all wickedness will be done away with and how righteousness is to dwell. When Mr. Braginsky is awaken from the sleep of death, he will not have to worry about evil terrorists snuffing his life away. When you see Alex again, your tears of mourning will turn into tears of joy! I am so sorry for your loss.

I saw Mrs. Braginsky on television several days after the attacks. She had implored Pat Battle to allow her to show Alex's picture on the air, and begged anyone who had seen him to 'just call the Reuters'. It was a heartbreaking moment, and one that is my most lasting image of the tragedy. Ms. Battle, speechless, began to weep, as did I, at the powerful and futile hope of the woman clutching a picture of her handsome son. I think of them often. My heart goes out to Alex's mother, and all who knew him.

I first met Alex at Michael Britt's where we became fast friends and practiced "Firearms" together. I guess this was in the early 1990's and later worked with him in Stanford, Ct. where he was my greatest ally.
I haven't seen Alex since early 1996 when I lost my position in the firm we were both working for.
In 2000, I had a stroke and developed various complications.
I had lost all contact with Alex until today, November 20, 2004 when I was informed by Michael Britt of his death in the World Trade Center.
Alex was a great guy and good friend and I was in shock when I found out that he's gone from us.
The world will not be a better place without people like Alex and I'll miss him.
All I can offfer is my condolences to his family and I know that Alex is in a better place now.

Today there was a silent march in Bay Ridge Brooklyn to pay honor to all those lost on 9/11 The names of all the people lost were carried thru the streets of Brooklyn.
I carried the name of Alexander Bragensky. He and all the others like him will never be forgotten. It was a touching memorial to all.

To everyone who paid tribute to my
one and only son Alexander Braginsky I want to extend my sincerest words of gratitude.
I thank everyone who found time to share my grief. All of you spoke so nicely of him. I am sure, should you have a chance of knowing him, you would be happy to name him your friend. This is not my personal opinion, this is the opinion of his numerous Reuters coleagues and common people who knew him.
As a mother I thank everyone who is with us at this terrible time.
I wish everyone health, happiness and best of luck! Let you never know the tragedy as close as I happen to know it. Let no mother know such a loss as I know. Let every mother has a chance to raise her children and grandchildren.

I hired Alex at Reuters in December of 1999. I used to tell him that his arrival had boosted the company's IQ by a large factor.
I knew he was overqualified for the job, yet felt it would give a way to start in the company
We had become great friends, Alex used to delight us with his cooking.

I hired Alex many years ago at Union Bank of Switzerland, giving him his first chance at a big institutional job in foreign exchange sales. My favorite memory of Alex is when he used to dress up as Santa Claus during our Christmas party, and give out gifts to all the kids, including my own. Alex was a wonderful friend and fellow worker.
