Kristine Swearson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 22, 2001.
Sister, Cousin, Girlfriend
Kristine Swearson's search for her family roots led her to North Dakota two years ago. She found long-lost cousins who embraced her and set up a family Web site to stay in touch. And she found love with a young man who turned out not to be a relation of any kind.

"I gave her a hard time about it," said her sister, Kerri Roberts. "I asked her, 'Are you sure he's not a cousin, or a cousin of a cousin?' " Ms. Swearson just laughed and kept the boyfriend.

Ms. Swearson, 34, began her adventures in San Jose, Calif. As teenagers, the Swearson sisters would choreograph dances to their favorite disco tunes and perform in the family's garage. They even charged the neighborhood children a quarter for the show.

In later years, the disco gave way to yoga and a Web-design job with eSpeed, a division of Cantor Fitzgerald. But Ms. Swearson never forgot to call or write her disco partner every day. "I was extremely proud of her," Ms. Roberts said. "I couldn't have had a better sister."

Dropped flowers off for you again this day at Los Gatos Memorial Park. It was very nice to see that there was a red, white and blue wreath and several flower arrangements left there in your memory. Wanted your family to know that you are not forgotten by many here in Los Gatos.

Dearest Kris, I think of you often and never thoughy I would have the chance to pay my respects locally in NYC but because of work I had to travel to New York this past week and did get to be where this horrific tragedy took your special life from this world. It was much more emotional than I had imagined it would be. You are missed vey much and never forgotten. I wish yout family peace and comfort. Kimberly

We didn't know each other very well at Leigh High School, but I remember you as being very nice and friendly. I can't image what the last 10 years have been like for your family, but I hope they know that people remember you and that you're all in our prayers.

I never knew Kristine, but we are thinking of her family today. In our church today, we drew names of those we lost on 9/11. I drew Kristine's name. Enjoyed reading how she and her sister, as teenagers, did dances and charged neighborhood children a quarter for the show. This moved me, as our kids also like to perform. To Kristine's family and friends: Our thoughts are with you.

My Aunt and my only Aunt. The reason in living in New York City now is because of you. Everything you've done is a reflection on me, everyday. I live by you and I strive to be as confident, successful and care-hearted person, as you were.

I feel you here in the city, when I go on walks alone in the afternoon.
Almost everyday someone tells me I remind them of you or I do something exactly as you would.
Nima tells me everyday of how much I remind her of You, and it's honestly flattering to me.
I look up to you everyday. And I know you're watching over me, making sure I'm 'okay' out here in the big city alone.
I love you and I miss you everyday.
You're my inspiration.

See you on the other side<3

There I was at the state fair, watching the turning orb memorial with the cool water flowing over the stone. I watched, waited until your name came by. I ran my finger across it and said a prayer. We keep you in our hearts.

I did not know Kristine, but I do know her Grandmother. She and I live in the same Senior Retirement Community. There was a memorial service here last year for Kristine, so the residents could express their sympathy to Kristine's family. I am so very sorry for the pain that you all feel and hope that time will help to soften that pain. God bless you all.

Last December 2nd, 2001 I was in New York City for the first time ever. I took advantage of some extra time off from our company trade show in Atlantic City, NJ and went to visit NY for a couple of days. The first night I was there I took a cab and asked the driver if he could get me as close to ground zero as possible and he did. He dropped me off across the street from a church that was to the left of what was the Twin Towers. I made my way across the street to the make shift shrine of cards and still burning candles that were in front of the church. As I looked around and made my way to the end of the fence, I noticed one of the skeletal remains of the tower was just a few feet away from me. As I looked on in amazement, I raised my camera to take a picture and when I lowered the camera, I was now in focus of a banner that hung from a street lamp. The banner had "NYC" at the top and in the middle was a NY skyline picture and at the bottom was the company name "e-speed", the company that my cousin worked for. I could not believe my eyes. The first things I see are the remains of the tower and then her company name right there in front of me. I stood there for quit awhile absorbing the moment. I then found an open deli around the corner that happen to have fresh flowers (1 dozen white roses) which I purchased with an appropriate card. I signed it, From your family, who will never forget you and my you rest in peace. I then placed it with the rest of the cards and flowers in front of the church. From what I remember and have heard of you Kristine, I am very proud of you for doing exactly what you wanted to do in what turned out to be too short of a life lived. I'm sorry I never got the chance to know you more as an adult. May God bless you and may you rest in peace.
Your cousin,

This morning, I attended a Remembrance Ceremony at the University of Pittsburgh. As part of the ceremony, they had an american flag for each victim of the 9/11 tragedy. Each flag had a name of a person who perished, their age, where they lived and where they passed. My flag had Kristine's name on it. I found it ironic because my name is Kristie and I am 28, close to 34. I wanted to find out more about Kristine, so I read her information on the website. She seemed to be a wonderful person and one who will be sorrowfully missed. Finding out more about Kristine has made this tragedy much more real. As my life continues, I can only hope to be half as wonderful as Kristine seemed to be! May she rest in peace. God bless.

I first took notice of Kristine at the Expresso Bar It was impossible to miss her and those inquisitive eyes. She was aware of the world around her, she engaged that very world to respond to her questions and thoughts. She was a brave multi-dementional soul with an open and passionate heart.

She was advanced and funny too.

I work in NYC for a company that was retained in July 2001 by eSpeed to help in the development of the employee website. That is how I met Kristine. The week before 9/11, we hosted a dinner at a restaurant for the entire eSpeed marketing team, including Kristine. We were all in high spirits that night and the conversation was very lively. I sat across from Kristine and got to know her better. She actually told me the story of North Dakota and geting to know her father's side of the family. Her eyes absolutely sparkled when she talked about the man she had met there. I can still see her pretty face; and the easy smile that formed matching dimples on her face and the freckles that sprinkled her nose. She seemed to me like an all-American girl.

Her death only days later was incomprehensible. I can't imagine the grief her family and friends must feel and my heart goes out to all of you.

We are so very sorry for your loss of Kristine. I enjoyed the story of her dancing. I will think of her when I see others dance. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
