Kevin Cleary Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 22, 2001.
A Love of the Stage
For some film buffs, it is enough to just watch and be amazed by actors. Kevin Francis Cleary, however, decided that he would rather be one of them, and maybe one day be as good as his idol, Paul Newman. So three years ago, Mr. Cleary, a stockbroker for Euro Brokers, which had offices in 2 World Trade Center, became Kevin Cleary, the part-time theater actor. "It was so amazing that here he was 38 and starting a second career," Cate Cleary said of her brother.

Fresh from a recent production of "Waiting Station," Mr. Cleary was gearing up to play Lenny in "Of Mice and Men."

"He worked all day then rehearsed all night for his productions," his sister said. "Twenty-four hours just never seemed to be enough for him."

Ever the thrill seeker, Mr. Cleary took time every year for exotic trips to places like Vietnam, Cuba, Thailand and, most recently, Tuscany.

I was visiting the 9/11 Memorial over the weekend during a visit to New York from UK. It was my first ever visit and I was so touched by it all. Among all the others it was your name that particularly jumped out at me only because it is the same as mine. We didn't know each other but I said a prayer for you and your family . Rest in Peace

KC , Here we are again . It's been a while bro , but I still think of you all the time . I remember your kindness and ability to make everyone feel important . You always took the time to make everyone feel special . It still makes me so angry when i think of that day , So i focus on the heroism and acts of bravery displayed , rather then dwell in the sorrow . I know , just like Brian you thought of yourself last and that is why so many lived that day . So many stories of bravery that never made out of the wreckage will never be told , but we know them in our hearts to be true. God bless bro , and I'm looking forward to seeing you again on the other side , until that day bro ...please give everyone a big hug , and tell them we love them . Trying to make it happen over here guy : love You bro . You are missed . Please watch over us

On behalf of the Marren family, we think of Kevin on this day and many days throughout the year. For me, I think of first meeting Kevin as we started football practice at Iona Prep and then being in classes with him. He had a tremendous personality and a great family. I also think about all of the overlap of Clearys and Marrens at Iona and Holy Child. May this note find all members of the Cleary family well and able to cherish many wonderful memories.

Dear KC

The pain of your absence in all who held you dear is still felt every day. My brother, Buck, loved you like a brother and I will never forget how you watched over me, his little sister, at Madison. All of us know you were watcing over others on September 11th 10 years ago, and that is why we miss you now and forever.

Dear Kevin, When you were a child, my brother Bob and I, your across the street neighbors in Scarsdale, saved your life. Running out of your house in the joy of childhood games, you put you arm through a storm door window and severed the veins under your arm. Using our Boy Scout first aid, we stopped the bleeding until the ambulance came. We wish we were there once again ten years ago. Growing up with you and your family was great. We hope your family and friends find strength in their loss.

Dear Kevin,

I never met you or your family personally but I would like you too know that your life was honored on the anniversary of September 11th. The Gates Chili high school chose to honor the victims of this tradegy by wearing their names in rememberance. You are remembered and you will be honored. With great sincerity, Amy Malone

September 11, 2002

We feel your loss keenly through our dear friend, your wonderful sister Cate, who came to our wedding in LA last year just two days after your funeral. Cate explained that you would have wanted her to carry on and celebrate life and love. We felt especially blessed by your spirit that night, Kevin, and we're inspired every day by your joie de vivre. Please try to make a point of having a heavenly lunch with our dear, departed pal Christopher Gorman, another fabulously handsome Irishman with a great love of theater. We think you'll hit it off.

At any rate, we are thinking of you and yours with love and prayers,

Kevin,

I think about you often with a smile. Knowing now, where you are and who you're with. But today, I think about you with great saddness. Reading these notes and remembering all of the people whose lives you touched. You were an angel even then. I took so much from our working together. The interest you showed in my projects and your commitment to making them better. My only regret is that we never found the time to watch "HUD" together, something we'd promised each other we'd do. May God Bless you and look over your loved ones. I know we'll see each other again. Until that time, stay cool, Luke.

Kev, You spent your life caring deeply for people, and your friendship for Chris will never be forgetten by our family. I will always thank God for your being there for Chris and helping to ease his pain. When I think of my brother now, I see you next to him. And I feel better.

Coco - You are remembered each day. You will be pleased to know your friends are all united due to their respect for you. Your spirit lives on and rest assured I am doing my part to help ALL those who were enriched by knowing you, wherever they may be. I will honor your memory as one of the most generous, kind, and compassionate people I have ever met. I will keep up the nonsense and do my part to make sure your passing was not in vain.

KC -- peace be with you. a man who has friends will never be alone.

i was telling a story to some friends last summer about my days working with Kevin at Longshore and he was at the heart of the trouble we caused and the great times we had. sadly, i had talked about looking him up in NYC, but life got in the way, like it does too often, and a good intention wasn't followed through.

i would like Kevin's family to know that i've since heard from almost 20 people who knew kevin back during his connecticut days in 1988 - 1990 and everyone misses him and has truly great things to say about him as a real friend.

peace and love, mike hardesty

May Kevin's enjoyment for acting, his life and love live on in those who love him. We are deeply sorry for your loss. May you always feel the warmth of his love radiate into your hearts. Our hearts cry with you in your loss of Kevin.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

Kevin although I use to call you KC as well. I want to call you Kevin now. I know we didn't grow up together, and we only knew each other for a few years ever since you came to Eurobrokers. You were the coolest. You never got wrapped up in this bull. You always stayed the same. I drove you crazy everyday with Sports, Ent..., Boy problems you name it you always listened.I just want to thank you right now from the bottom of my heart for all the laughs we had, and you know we joked on everything. You kept me updated with all the Cosmo stuff, and I kept you updated with all the hip hop stuff. (smile) Suge is still being Suge, and Mary J Blidge's CD is still doing well. I know that was your girl, but I still don't like the song. I can type to you forever with all the one more things I have to tell you, but I want to leave space for your other friends as well. I'm glad I got to know you. You are a sweet person, and thank you for putting up with my madness all these years. Lastly I really did think you were great in the play. I hope you believe me now, and i'm glad you gave me your autoghraph I'll keep it forever.
