Gregory Clark Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 23, 2001.
A Sailor and a Gentleman
For months, the shy young Japanese woman working at the snack stand at the United States naval base in Yokohama knew Gregory A. Clark as "pizza man," the name she had given him because he always ordered the same thing.

It was the summer of 1987, and by the time that fall came, they had begun dating. Eventually, the handsome petty officer second class left the Navy and the couple married, moved to New Jersey and had four children, who are now between the ages of 5 and 11. Mr. Clark, 40, was a computer technician for Cantor Fitzgerald.

Yuka Clark, the shy young woman who is now his widow, has written him a letter: "Gregory, you were like an angel. You always made people feel so warm with your kindness and thoughtfulness, wherever you went. You rarely demanded for yourself; you were like a selfless saint. You had so much class and you were a true gentleman and you made us feel so proud. You loved children so much and gave and gave endlessly. Your smile and happy memories will never be forgotten. You will live in our hearts forever and ever."

I remember Greg as a quiet non assuming guy. Kind, never threatening. We were in school together until the 8th Grade. I'm so sorry for your wife and children. God takes the best of us way to early.,

I remember we were walking in the nature center. There was a herd of deer...you looked at us and started running after the them. We started running too. I remember feeling so free running after those deer...almost felt like we were a part of the pack. We ran so fast.
There was another time, at the nature center, when you spotted a toad croaking on a rock. We watched you slowly move closer and closer toward the toad. Quickly you snatched the toad and it was in your hands. It peed in your hands and you let it go in shock. We laughed so hard.
I remember one morning you took me to get bagels. We later sat by a tree in the park eating them. The sound of a bird caught your attention. You told me it was a mocking bird. Then you quoted to kill a mocking bird to me. I had no idea what you were saying, I was young. Years later, in English class, I read the same lines you recited to me. I wanted to cry...but it made me happy.
All the memories I cherish and am grateful for. You gave me the appreciation of nature, life, and learning.
Thanks, dad

I knew Greg though his brother Stevie, who coached me in Little League and worked with me at the Swim Club. Whenever I saw Greg at the Swim Club in the summers, he always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. Words cannot describe what Greg meant to his family and friends...you are missed.

My husband,Steven Garland knew Greg very well and since moving to Virginia in 1990/91, Steve has mentioned him many times. He always said that Greg was a great person and such a prankster in school. In 1998 we took a trip to NJ to visit his friends, he questioned Gregs whereabouts then, but with the little time spent in NJ, he wasn't able to contact him. We were very saddened to hear of this tragedy and of the loss and pain his family encountered.Greg is now an angel among us and for that we are grateful!Steve always thought Greg was great, he will be missed and always thought of, Steve is so glad to have had the chance to know him! Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family. May God Bless You All! We will Never Forget Greg, nor will we forget 09-11-01!

I was saddened to hear of Greg's untimely passing on that terrible day. I went to elementary and high school with Greg and although we were not close friends, we always said hello to each other. I had later heard he went in the Navy and lost track of him after that.

My thoughts and prayers are with Gregs wife, children and the entire Clark family.

I did not know Gregory Clark personally, but I have come to know his daughter Sarah who is in my son's class. Seeing such a beautiful child who carries on with strength and grace truly shows the kind of father and mother she has. His love and life continues to shine on in his children's eyes and his wife's heart. To all the Clark children - They can never take away the love your father gave to you or you to him. Be the best that you can be in life - for yourself and your father. Let no one or nothing keep you from being who you are - the child of a remarkable father and mother. God bless the Clark family and all those families of tragedy. God Bless America

I worked with Greg 1998-1999. I used to call him Opie from the Andy Griffin show. I don't think he liked that much but it was our own joke amongst ourselves.

He was a very humble and sensitive kind of guy. When it came to work he took it to heart.

My prayers goes out to the family.

GREG - Of course I have many memories of you but some of the ones I remember most are the fun we had in Tucson at the Uof A with Tom, Rob, Doug, Debbie and your brother Kevin. I also have images in my mind of you and your wife at the Haworth pool playing with all your beautiful children. It sickens me to think that someone could take you away from them so soon but I can only hope that there is a reason for it. We will miss you and always remember you.

Greg, remember last June - at your Dad's house- with your kids. You philosophized how we can make this a better world; and how you wanted your kids to enjoy it as much as you did? Will always remember you as a teenager, playing with our son, Tom. Love- Cathy & Mike

What a heart touching story of love you have shared with us. We are deeply sorry for your loss of Gregory. May his angel like qualities, his warm heart, his life and love continue living in those who love him. May you always feel the warmth of his love radiate into your hearts. May the sorrow you feel be lightened by golden memories of the times shared with Gregory. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

I remember Greg from my days working at Cantor. He was a great human being who loved life and loved his wife and children very much. I want his family to know that God is in control and He will be your strength, your comforter and your rock. Lets remember Greg for how he lived and not how he died. My prayers are with his family. God Bless!!
